So, who were The Band? Bob Dylan chose them as his backing band when he went electric. After splitting off, they made a clutch of very good folk rock albums and their best known songs (The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up on Cripple Creek) are regarded as classics. After about a decade together, they decided to say goodbye with an extravaganza of a show that illustrated their standing in the musical community - the guest list of performers included Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, The Staple Singers, Neil Diamond, Muddy Waters and Ringo Starr.
