Generative AI - Taming The Dragon
Generative AI - Taming The Dragon
Hey Everyone! 👋 **Location:** \- On\-site: Dataroots Offices\, Arnould Nobelstraat 32 Leuven \- Online: Zoom link TBA **Practicalities for the evening on Thursday, March 5th:** \- 18:00: Doors Open\, pizza & drinks \- 19:00: Speaker Talks \- 20:30: Networking & Drinks **Welcome to edition 14 of the Generative AI Belgium Meetup! 🚀** This time, we go on a quest. Many epics speak of the brave and the adventurous going on a quest to conquer, slay, tame, or train a dragon along the way. The last three years of AI developments have their own stories of creativity, novel paths, and unforeseen challenges that seemed too big to tackle. In this edition, we want to bring some stories of people and teams who didn't choose the easiest path, but the most interesting one. Join us on March 5th at Dataroots, Arnould Nobelstraat 32, Leuven, to meet these brave souls and get a feel for what it takes to tackle a challenge from scratch. Whether it's navigating the dragon that is the EU AI Act, training and running a custom language model, or building production-ready systems, every path has its own fire-breathing challenges. See you there! **Line-up:** \- 🐉 [Niels Tack](https://www.linkedin.com/in/niels-tack/): Taming The EU AI Act - Compliance as code \- 🏰 [Sohum Bhatt](https://www.linkedin.com/in/sohum-bhatt-530114230/): Taming Local LLMs to build applications \- ⚔ [Maarten Vandeperre:](https://www.linkedin.com/in/maarten-vandeperre/) Taming AI Sovereignty \- đŸ€ș[Lode Nachtergaele:](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lodenachtergaele/) Taming Agentic RAG - How Agentic Beats RAG Big thanks to Dataroots for hosting us and to our sponsors: In The Pocket, BruCON, Red Hat, Collibra, Plainsight & Volta Ventures for supporting the community.
Belgium AI Community Building session
Belgium AI Community Building session
**Belgium AI Community - Building Together Session** A casual event where AI and Machine Learning practitioners get to meet and exchange on projects and cool open-source AI based tooling. **Who this is for** AI and Data Science enthusiasts who are looking for feedback on their projects, seasoned builders who want to share their tooling with fellow AI hackers or simply curious minds looking for the next step in their AI journey. **What we do** We meet and exchange on projects whether they be already in flight or only getting started, we share feedback, ideas and also get our hands dirty building out our community's ideas. If you are looking for a team to enroll in a Machine learning Competition, or want help contributing to an AI-related Open-source projects, this is the place for you. AI development is driven by real-life use-cases, and the people with ideas to apply AI are also more than welcome to come and share them with the community. **What this is not** While we acknowledge vibe-coding tools are a useful tool on an AI builder's belt, this meetup is not focusing on the use of vibe-coding products and starting a company from scratch, although sharing tips on customising and building upon them are always welcome. **> Format** **16:00 – Kickoff** Brief intro: share what you're working on (or thinking about). We prioritise problem-solving and real-world applications. The core question: *what problem do you want to solve?* **16:15 – Session** Work solo or team up with others. Sessions are flexible and evolve organically around participant needs. Tools of the trade are whiteboards, pen and paper and laptops. The Commons Hub Brussels remains open as long as at least one member is present. **19:30 – Wrap-up** If time allows, we regroup to briefly present what we've explored or built. Everyone is invited to share the concrete steps taken toward their solution — and what comes next.

The Mental Wealth Field: Presence, Pressure, and Collective Intelligence
The Mental Wealth Field: Presence, Pressure, and Collective Intelligence
In complex organisational environments, pressure often overrides presence — narrowing thinking, reducing trust, and fragmenting collaboration. This session introduces **the** **concept of the *Mental Wealth Field*: the conditions under which individuals and groups naturally access clarity, insight, and collective intelligence.** Rather than offering tools or techniques, the session creates a lived experience of what becomes possible when unnecessary psychological pressure eases. Participants will: * Experience **how presence impacts communication and collaboration.** * Explore **the relationship between pressure, thinking, and decision-making**. * Reflect on **how facilitators can stabilise conditions where insight emerges naturally**. This is not a skills-based workshop. It is an **experiential exploration of the invisible conditions that shape group effectiveness**. **Richard Gordon Kelly** works with people inside organisations where pressure has quietly become the norm. With over 25 years’ experience, he creates spaces where leaders and teams can slow down, speak honestly, and reconnect with what matters. Through this work in the Mental Wealth Zone, Richard helps people feel seen, safe, and trusted - so clarity, connection, and sustainable performance naturally follow.

Intervals Workout Session đŸƒđŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸƒđŸŒâ€â™€ïžđŸƒđŸ» Bois de la Cambre
We do cycles of 4-6 weeks, with a progressive intensity, and the last session is lighter. Program: 15’ warm up **To be defined** Cool down to get back to the starting point
or more S=All out sprint RF = Run fast, at MAS (Maximum aerobic speed) CF = Run comfortably fast (1h threshold) J = Jog, recuperation Notes: It should take about one hour in total, as the cool down will end when we reach back to the meeting point. It's NOT required to have an activity tracker or smart watch to be able to follow the program, as I'll be giving signals with a whistle. For the "run" part, you can follow your own pace and we'll be regrouping in the "jog" part. Intervals training is not advised for total beginners. To have an idea, the average pace at the warm up is around 5'45"/km-6'/km so this pace should feel very comfortable ***Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability.*** By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organizers from any responsibility and liability in all claims. As the participation is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves.
Dutch Limburg (Maastricht to Visé, 26km)
Dutch Limburg (Maastricht to Visé, 26km)
On Sunday I am organizing a hike in Dutch Limburg. We will start on the outskirts of Maastricht for a hike along rolling hills. This area is known from the cycling event "Amstel Gold Race". We will mainly walk on unpaved roads and cross a couple of forests. Halfway we enter Belgium again. After walking 1km through Flanders we continue along Walloon territory, to finish in VisĂ©. This town has a good choice of bars to finish our hike with a beer or two. As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. I’ve not tested this track beforehand, so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning. ●●You can find the track here: https://loc.wiki/t/252972128?wa=sc ●●Meeting point: We meet at 10h42 in Maastricht-Randwijck. **IMPORTANT: this is not the main railway station in Maastricht!** If you start from Brussels, the best option is to take train IC507 from Schaarbeek to Eupen at 9h12. **IMPORTANT: this weekend there are no direct trains to Eupen from Brussels-South, Central or North.** I am coming from Ghent, so I will be on that train already. You can find me in the first car of the train. In Liege-Guillemins you have ten minutes to change. You should take train S43 towards Aachen Hbf at 10h08. **IMPORTANT: make sure that you take the correct train to Aachen HbF, because there are two trains going that direction.** Make sure that you get out at Maastricht-Randwijck. This is not the main railway station. ●● Train tickets: Return ticket Brussels-Maastricht should be fine. This journey involves a border crossing. ●● Back to Brussels: In VisĂ© there is one train per hour back to Brussels, with a change in Liege. ●● Specifics: Distance: ca 26km Elevation gain: 300m Net walking time: ca 5-6h Weather forecast: Dry and 17 degrees! In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even few hours before the event. If this must happen, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out an email to those registered. So it is important to have access to either the [[[[[[[Meetup.com](http://meetup.com/)]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/)) website and/or your emails. ●● What to bring: * Comfortable hiking clothes &shoes * rain gear (just in case) * water + food for the breaks * sun cream * Compeed for blisters * some small money for drinks ●● Basic rules: Please RSVP only if you really intend to come. And if your plans change, update your RSVP asap, even hours before the walk. This is basic courtesy towards others. Repeated late cancellations are not well considered (at all). No-shows are even worse. Do not show up for a hike unless you are on the “going” list. People with the "go-with-the-flow" label are only moved from the waitlist 24 hours before the hike. I give you the label "go-with-the-flow" if you did not show up in one of my hikes before, or if you canceled for one of these hikes less than 24 hours in advance. ●● Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability: You are responsible for yourself and should be fit enough if you want to take part. As the participation in the events is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves. By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organisers from any responsibility and liability. Moreover, the organisers aren't tour operators, so they don't feel obliged to answer to every text message or email!

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
**Google Analytics Alternatives** Is it finally time to make the switch away from Google Analytics? Two-and-a-half years ago Jason Packer asked this question at Columbus Web Analytics Wednesday. Since then: Google’s Universal Analytics has been sunset, we’ve changed our name to Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday, and Jason has released two editions of his book “Google Analytics Alternatives”. Fresh off the release of the 2nd edition of his book, we thought it was time to re-open this conversation. While people love to complain about it, GA’s market share has remained relatively constant (at least in the United States). Why is that? You won’t find any complaints about GA4 in this talk, but rather an overview of what’s currently available in the market and how to frame your decision-making process. We’ll also be giving out some free copies of Jason’s book! So even if you’ve got a “GA4Lyfe” tattoo (no judgement), there’s free books to go with the free pizza and beer. CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems: * Using running totals * Performing operations in intervals * Identifying data gaps and islands * Performing aggregates without losing detail Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.
