Austin Robotics & AI
Hello Everyone,
This month we are taking a deep dive into building homes with robotics. [Terran Robotics](https://www.terranrobotics.ai/) and [Liberty3D](https://liberty-3d.com/) will show us the work they are doing with printing homes.
This event will be held in-person at HICAM from 6 pm - 8 pm.
**Talk1:** Terraforming Texas
**Talk Description**:
Daniel Joseph Weddle and Anastasia Nikoulina will present the work of Terran Robotics, which is currently 3D printing their 2nd home of earthen materials in Texas. The company completed it's first home on May 29th and is currently setting the foundation for the 2nd
They use on site materials and a cable driven robot to print monolithic adobe housing.
**Bios:**
[Daniel Joseph Weddle](https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-weddle-64433191/) is co-founder and construction manager.
[Anastasia Nikoulina](https://www.linkedin.com/in/anastasianikoulina/) is the full time Texas Software Engineer.
**Talk 2:** Human-Centered Construction Robotics: Building Better Homes and Better Paths for Tradesmen
**Talk Description:**
Construction robotics is often discussed in terms of speed, automation, and efficiency, but the real value is in how these systems serve people. At Liberty3D, we believe robotics should help us build better homes while also creating better options for the tradesmen of today and the next generation entering the industry.
In this talk, Jason Jones of Liberty3D will discuss how 3D concrete printing, modular construction, smarter home infrastructure, and repeatable build systems can improve the way homes are built and experienced. The printer is only one part of the solution. The larger opportunity is creating a construction system that is scalable, practical, code-aware, and centered around the humans it serves, from the people operating the technology to the families living in the homes.
As housing needs, workforce expectations, and society continue to change, the construction industry has an opportunity to use robotics without losing sight of the trades. Liberty3D sees automation as a tool to support skilled labor, not replace it. This talk will explore how construction technology can help experienced tradesmen adapt, give future tradesmen new paths into business ownership and advanced building systems, and create homes that are more durable, efficient, adaptable, and centered around a better human experience.
**Bio:**
[Jason Jones](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jason-s-jones-49b96136/) is the CEO and founder of Liberty3D, a Texas-based construction technology company focused on bringing 3D concrete printing, robotics, and modular building systems into real-world housing.
Jason grew up with a grandfather who was a builder and a father who was an engineer, giving him an early appreciation for both the craft of construction and the systems behind how things work. That curiosity followed him from taking apart toys and electronics as a kid, to working on cars, repairing devices, and eventually serving in the Army in a role focused on landmines and improvised explosive devices, where precision, discipline, and attention to detail were critical.
Today, Jason brings that same builder’s mindset, technical curiosity, and respect for process to Liberty3D. His work is focused on creating a scalable, repeatable construction system that uses robotics and automation to support skilled labor, reduce waste, improve quality, and give the next generation a practical path into the future of construction.

Sunday Board Games @ Game Kastle
We play a wide variety of Euro-style board games, including anything new that's out there plus usual favorites. Bring your favorite game! Someone will most likely want to try it. Game Kastle has snacks and drinks, plus there is a Subway, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Wing Street and Wanfu in the shopping center. Sorry, no alcohol allowed in the store.
There are usually 10+ folks playing games, regardless of the number that sign up.
If you show up after 1pm, you may have to wait.
Research Night: Playing Published Games
Whether you're a current or aspiring game designer or a tabletop games enthusiast, getting together with game designers to play published games has a lot to offer.
If you design games, analyzing and breaking down a game after the game is over can help you gain a deeper understanding of game mechanics and explore specific problems you're encountering in game development.
If you're primarily a playtester, it can help you develop the skills to understand games' underlying mechanisms in ways that can level up your gaming strategy, and see how published games help inspire and teach designers in their own designs.
This is not a prototype playtesting event - rather, it's a chance for you to play published games with other designers and game design enthusiasts and follow up gameplay with rich conversations about how designers implemented, combined, or innovated on mechanics in published games.
If you'd like to join us, you are welcome to bring a game you'd like to offer for the group to play - think beyond "I love this game and want to play it again" and focus on games you want to better understand or learn from as a designer.
If you're a game designer, you're also encouraged to comment on this page with a specific problem you're trying to address in a game, so that organizers or other attendees can bring games that might help you explore the problem space. Please comment on the event page only for events you have RSVP'd for and plan to attend.

Unity GameDev Hangout (Topic TBD)
*We'll update this with the specific topic(s) once they're set for the month.*
A relaxed, community-driven Unity GameDev meetup. No strict agenda — just developers getting together to talk shop, share projects, and exchange ideas.
Some topics that may come up (based on attendee interest):
* Frame Debugger & performance tooling
* Addressables & additive scene workflows
* Input System, localization, responsive UI
* AI integration approaches
* DevOps & LiveOps experiences
* Full lifecycle: idea → cross-platform publishing
* Favorite Asset Store tools and hidden gems
* Weird Unity quirks we've all run into
Nothing is locked in. Bring a project if you'd like, bring a question, bring a lesson learned — or just come hang out and meet other developers.
All skill levels welcome. Food and drinks provided.
(Cross-Posting) From Joints to Gestures: Reading Hands in Unity
Do **NOT** sign up to this one and sign-up at https://www.meetup.com/columbusjs/events/313386504/
=======================================
A hand tracker gives you joints, not a gesture.
This talk shows how you get from raw joints to a "thumbs-up" in Unity: the pipeline that cleans up the data, how a gesture becomes a few 0-to-1 values within tolerance, and why orientation matters as much as finger shape.
Includes a live demo of tuning gesture thresholds.
Food and drinks will be available.

Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code - Alan Barber
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code*
Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs.
In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling.
The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options.
