Cinema: Marty Supreme (2025)
Let's try a central venue: The Garden Cinema is between Covent Garden and Holbon. I want to see this because of the time period and setting - it sounds like they did a great job. Timothée Chalamet's performance in particular is getting a lot of praise.
Plot: "There is towering suspense amongst the organised chaos, and the plot pushes aggressively forward, demanding full attention for the hefty runtime. But Marty Supreme also revels in its sense of place - a vivid depiction of 1950s New York Jewish community is captured in exquisite detail, and is populated with big, idiosyncratic characters, all of whom feel lived in. The anachronistic use of 80s music blends in seamlessly, never feeling pretentious or like a stylistic gimmick."
\>\> Please book your own ticket:
https://bookings.thegardencinema.co.uk/TheGardenCinema.dll/TSelectItems.waSelectItemsPrompt.TcsWebMenuItem_0.TcsWebTab_0.TcsPerformance_4598471.TcsSection_638
"Marty Supreme isn’t actually a ‘ping-pong movie’. Josh Safdie’s acclaimed new film is really about ambition, sex, money, fame, greed, risk, destiny, desire"
"Marty Mauser, an aspiring table tennis champion who navigates a chaotic journey filled with scams and ambition in pursuit of greatness. The film explores his struggles and relationships"
"Nobody was expecting the Marty Supreme world premiere at October’s New York Film Festival, but the response from critics in attendance is glowing."
Let's meet in the bar downstairs for a drink before the film starts at 8pm. The attendance fee is £2.50, hope you can join me.

🐍🎬 ANACONDA 2025 (FILM & SOCIAL)
🌴 ***Picture this: Jack Black and his giant Anaconda slithers into the jungle and bumps into Jennifer Lopez's hot dog stand. She says, 'Hey, want a bite of my hot dog?' and his snake just hisses back saying, 'Sorry, we're on a strictly no-buns diet!***
👋 **Happy 2026 everyone,** and let's keep that snake skin crawling! So this new film with **Jack Black** is basically a fun revival of that whole giant snake adventure genre that started in the 90s. It will be directed by **Tom Gormican**, and it's a **meta-reboot** that isn't just remaking the original **[Anaconda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkjWyIdIBJo)**—it's a movie about the hilarity and chaos of making that remake. The scoop is that of course, it'll have Jack Black's signature tongue-in-cheek humor with that behind-the-scenes, wink-at-the-audience feel.
In other words, **Jack Black, Paul Rudd** **and the cast** are playing characters who are filming this giant snake remake, and all sorts of ridiculous stuff happens. According to the **[trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az8M5Mai0X4)**—**feel free to skip** **it if you want**—it’s got that fun, campy adventure vibe with a big budget. So if you're into monster mayhem and a good laugh, let's start this new year with a blast!
We’ll kick things off with **pre-drinks at the Victory House Wine Bar**, then head over to **Vue Cinema (Screen 8)** for the screening. I’ll be in **seat A4**, but feel free to grab **any seat you like**. After the film, we’ll do a **quick [Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse/) review**, then head over to **The Three Lanterns** for our post-movie film social 🍻🎬 ***Check out the full schedule below.***
***And hey, if a giant snake can make it to 2026, we can all survive another year of movie mayhem!***

💔🎬 SENTIMENTAL VALUE (FILM & DISCUSSION)
💌 **An intimate exploration of family, memory, and the reconciliatory power of art**
**👋 Hi everybody** — let’s meet for this highly acclaimed Norwegian film directed by **Joachim Trier**. This film will explore themes of family, memory, and artistic legacy.
The story follows two sisters, Nora and Agnes, as they reunite with their estranged father, Gustav Borg, a once-renowned director. After the death of their mother, Gustav attempts a comeback by making a film about their family history, forcing the sisters to confront past traumas and unresolved feelings within their multi-generational family home.
We’ll meet for **drinks at the Curzon Cinema Soho Bar** before heading into the screening in **Screen 2**. I’ll be in **seat C**, but feel free to grab any seat you like. After the film, we’ll reconvene for a film discussion and a **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)** review.
Let’s check out this thoughtful drama about complicated family dynamics — and the idea that life is rarely ever simple.
**See you at the meetup,**

Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1970)
A tale of government corruption and the corrupting nature of authority, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion is a tense thriller with some bitter satirical elements attached. It won Best Foreign Film at the Oscars and its Ennio Morricone soundtrack is [apparently also iconic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw1ua8j7SnY).
A high-level police inspector kills his mistress and is put in charge of the investigation. Rather than covering things up, he deliberately leaves incriminating evidence to see whether his power essentially makes him untouchable. Timely, you say? Whatever could you mean?

2026 Kick-Off: SONG SUNG BLUE or ANACONDA at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Join us as we kick the New Year with a fun Happy Hour and your choice of two fun, new films! Option 1 is the biographical-musical-docu-drama, SONG SUNG BLUE, which stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in the story about a real-life couple and Neil Diamond Tribute Duo. Option 2 is the comedy-action-adventure ACACONDA, which stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd as part of a group of friends remaking a favorite movie from their youth. Here’s a complete description, trailer and our plan for this event:
SONG SUNG BLUE: The film follows Lightning and Thunder, a Milwaukee husband and wife Neil Diamond tribute act, who experience success and heartbreak in their musical journey together. Not a tribute to Neil Diamond, but a tribute to a Neil Diamond Tribute Band! The film is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name and is directed by Craig Brewer. It stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, along with Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi. Critics call the film, “a crowd-pleaser with a ton of heart!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCM0Ztp3o1o
ANACONDA: In this action-thriller-comedy-adventure, a group of friends going through a mid-life crisis head to the jungle to remake a favorite movie from their youth but encounter “unexpected events.” The film is directed by Tom Gormican and stars Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Selton Mello, Daniela Melchior, Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn.
