Let's meet up and speak English at a museum!
Our first 'class cultural trip' was really fun so I'm carrying on the series and we're going to keep exploring the British Museum.
The idea is we'll meet in the cafe at the British Museum, and then choose which part of the museum we want to explore. We'll walk around it, stopping to look at things we find interesting. I'll help you with the vocabulary you need to talk about what you can see. At the end we'll go back to the cafe to summarise what we've learnt and do a little vocabulary test to see what you can remember from your visit!
If you are late, don't worry too much, because we will stay in the cafe until everyone has arrived and then start exploring the museum.
I hope to make 'cultural visit classes' to museums/ exhibitions/ galleries into a regular event so let me know which places you are interested in. I plan to choose places that have free entry.
I need a minimum of 2 students to run this Meetup. Maximum 5 students so everyone gets a good chance to speak.

The classes are fun, friendly and informal and we cover a variety of topics.
I correct you and give you help with grammar and vocabulary as we go, so you can improve as you speak.
I look forward to welcoming you and having a good conversation with you in English soon!

From the main entrance, go up the stairs or escalators straight ahead of you. Walk round to your left and you'll see the café. I'll have a sign with 'Meetup' and your names.
Knowing Who You Can Trust
Your survival depends on knowing who you can rely on. But how can you tell who your real friends are? How can you determine if a person will help make a joint venture successful?
Is there a way to predict behavior? Yes. There are fundamental elements to human behavior. When you know them you have insight into your fellow man, and just by observing how people act, you will know *everything* about them.
#### On this lecture you will learn:
* The important role of trust in human relationships.
* The Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation—the tool to know true character and predict what people will do.
* How to evaluate others accurately and guarantee a more certain future for yourself and those you care about.
With the knowledge you learn on this course, you will have tools to know who you can trust and who you can depend on.
*“Trustworthiness is a highly esteemed commodity. When one has it, one is considered valuable. When one has lost it, one may be considered worthless.”*
*—L. Ron Hubbard*

Royal Institution: BBC Christmas Lectures
**The 2025 CHRISTMAS LECTURES®**
BBC, iPlayer and the Ri YouTube channel
Dame Maggie's 200th anniversary series of the **Royal Institution CHRISTMAS LECTURES®** will be **broadcast on BBC Four and iPlayer on Sunday 28, Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 December, at 7pm.**
But if you can't wait, and want to settle down to watch the full series in one sitting, then all three Lectures will be **available on iPlayer from early on Sunday 28 December.**
And if you live outside the UK, then you won't miss out! This fascinating exploration of one of humanity's most enduring questions - 'Is there life beyond Earth?' - will be available on the Ri YouTube channel for international audiences following the first broadcast in the UK, **also on Sunday 28th.**
**SUMMARY**
On the 200-year anniversary of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, the 2025 Lectures will see leading space scientist Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock take audiences on an epic voyage through time and space.
Joined by a host of very special guests - from astronauts to history-making astronomers - Maggie will explore the extraordinary breakthroughs that have revolutionised our understanding of the universe, enabling us to see ever further into space, and ever further back in time.
Maggie helped develop the James Webb Telescope, the most powerful space telescope ever created – which launched on Christmas day 2021 before travelling a million miles to begin its orbit of the sun. Unpacking James Webb’s latest breathtaking images, Maggie will reveal how this “time-travelling” telescope is now rewriting the story of the Big Bang and allowing us to witness the birth of the first stars and galaxies that followed.
As NASA prepares to return humans to the moon for the first time since 1972, Maggie will investigate how manned spaceflight has transformed our relationship with our nearest neighbour – and with our home planet. And, delving further back in time, she’ll explore how the night sky has always held a fascination for humanity - investigating what the moon and stars meant to ancient societies across the world.
Maggie will also explain how the latest space technologies – from probes and orbiters to the most recent Mars rovers - are shedding astonishing new light on the planets in our solar system. And we’ll discover why in 2025 we’re on the cusp of even more remarkable discoveries about our universe.
She will reveal just how far our understanding of space has come in the two centuries the Ri CHRISTMAS LECTURES have been around – looking back on previous Lectures on astronomy – from the first of these in 1826 to the 1977 lectures hosted by famed astronomer Carl Sagan, when the only known planets at that time were the eight in our solar system (thought to be nine at the time).
Maggie will also scour the Royal Institution archives to uncover some of the original props from these historic lectures, plus she’ll recreate - and supersize - some the most memorable demos from space lectures past.
In this iconic anniversary year these lectures will be a true celebration – of our universe and of the astounding human endeavours that are allowing us to solve its mysteries.

Mafia - Werewolf -The Traitors, an amazing psychological deduction
Mafia and/or Werewolf. It's an amazing psychological game where you need to tell the truth, lie, pretend, and read body language. It's not required to have any experience, and it's really easy to play. Feel free to come later, but inform if possible. Often we provide some snacks as well. £5 for the hall rent please.
The Mafia deduction game (alternative called called Werewolf) is a social deception game where players are secretly assigned roles as either Mafia (the "bad guys") or Civillias(the "good guys"). The goal of the Mafia is to eliminate all Civilians without being caught, while the Villagers must identify and eliminate the Mafia through discussion and voting. Some players may have special roles, like Sheriff, who can investigate others.
Why Mafia is good to play:
1. Improves Social Confidence – Players must speak up, defend themselves, and convince others, helping to overcome shyness and build assertiveness.
2. Enhances Psychological Resilience – Handling suspicion, false accusations, or being outplayed teaches emotional control and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
3. Boosts Analytical Thinking – The game sharpens critical thinking, as players must analyze behaviors, detect lies, and make logical arguments.
4. Encourages Risk-Taking – Whether lying as Mafia or accusing someone as a Villager, players learn to take strategic risks without fear of judgment.
5. Develops Public Speaking Skills – Speaking persuasively and confidently in a group setting makes it easier to express thoughts in real-life situations.
6. Teaches Emotional Intelligence – Recognizing deception and reading people's emotions improves the ability to navigate social interactions outside the game.
If you're looking to strengthen your mental resilience, become more courageous in discussions, or simply train your mind to think quickly under pressure, Mafia is a great way to do it!

E is for Emergency Exits: The Fight for Independence @ Imperial War Museum
Join us at **Emergency Exits: The Fight for Independence in Malaya, Kenya and Cyprus at the Imperial War Museum, London.**
***(Fancy the museum, but not this exhibition? Feel free to sign up and just visit the museum sections you want to see.)***
*Emergency Exits* focuses on three wars in the 1950s: in Malaya (now Malaysia), Kenya and Cyprus. It explores the motivations of key figures, the responses of the British colonial authorities and how these conflicts affected ordinary people.
You’ll hear stories from people on different sides as they share their thoughts on the wars that shaped their lives.
The exhibition also explores the British Government’s attempts to prevent documents relating to the conflicts from being published. In 2011, following a long battle by campaigners, the Government revealed that thousands of these files were still held in a secure archive. *Emergency Exits* helps unpick the path towards recognition in the UK.
Please note: *Sections of this exhibition contain themes including racism, sexual violence and torture.*
