Nature Walk through RSPB Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve
Nature Walk through RSPB Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve
**Hello and welcome! 🙂** Join us for a relaxed, social walk through **RSPB Rainham Marshes**, one of London’s most impressive nature reserves. With wide open landscapes, big skies, and a rich mix of wildlife, it’s the perfect place to unwind, enjoy nature, and connect with others at an easy, unhurried pace. 🌟 **What to Expect** * A gentle group walk through open marshland and nature trails * An easy way to meet new people with friendly, low-pressure conversation * Learn to spot birds, landscapes, and seasonal changes you might normally miss * Discover how noticing more in nature can make everyday walks more calming * Leave feeling refreshed - with new connections to both people and nature Even if you’ve never thought of yourself as a “nature person,” this is a welcoming, easy way to get started - and see just how good it can feel. **Agenda** * **Meet at 11am** outside the main entrance to RSPB Rainham Marshes (next to the little bridge, near the visitor centre). About a 10 minute walk from **Purfleet train station.** * **Begin walk at 11:10am** * **Walk will end around 13:00pm**, finishing back at the entrance To help encourage people to sign up early there are usually some free spaces. After that the usual price will apply. The charge helps cover the cost of the Meetup group subscription. Thank you for your support! 👋 **About Your Host - Matt** I work as a doctor in A&E and I’ve always found that time spent outdoors helps me recharge, especially with the pressures of city life and work. I grew up in rural Devon and have spent thousands of hours immersed in nature - and I love showing others how even a short walk can shift your mindset, boost your mood, and help you feel more present. No need to be a wildlife expert — I’ll point out birds and other wildlife along the way, and you’ll leave with a few simple tips to help you enjoy your own walks even more in future. This is a welcoming group — whether you come solo or with a friend — and a great way to combine light exercise, real conversation, and a bit of calm in your week. **Hope to see you there!** Matt
WILLOW BASKET MAKING
WILLOW BASKET MAKING
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/willow-basket-making-54/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/willow-basket-making-54/) **⋆⋆⋆** A classic craft with a contemporary flair. One day willow basket-making workshop. Before the invention of the plastic bag most shopping was carried home in baskets, and in Britain willow was one of the main materials used to make them. If you have ever studied and admired work by a basket weaver, this is your chance to jump in and give your hands a treat. Over one day, experienced basket maker John Page will guide you through the stages of making a gorgeous traditional shallow basket in English Willow. This is an excellent beginner project in 'stake and strand' technique resulting in a very durable and strong structure. In this small workshop, there will be plenty of guidance and background information on this classic craft. John also repairs harps and plays the organ. He is a patient and easygoing tutor so come and join us for a creative, relaxing day. Beginners welcome. The use of all tools and basic materials is included.

From measuring the window to fixing it to the wall, experienced tutor, Ian McQueen will guide you through the tools and techniques for making bespoke and accurately fitting blinds for any room in your house. During the day, you will master the art of producing a fabulous window treatment. You will make a sample blind using a 75cm x 1-metre drop piece of fabric. We keep our workshops very small for this discipline as you will need room to spread out when you are measuring and sewing so we aren’t able to make larger samples. You can take your professional handiwork home with pride. You will learn what to buy when shopping for cords and rings and how to select a suitable fabric to bring perfection and privacy to your decor. The Goodlife Centre has a varied selection of quality fabrics for you to use.

LONDON: Nature Sketching & Wander in the Lee Valley
LONDON: Nature Sketching & Wander in the Lee Valley
Join Hannah, Rob and London Wildish Club as we head out into the Lee Valley Regional Park, a 26-mile corridor of waterways, wetlands and open space stretching from the Thames all the way up into Hertfordshire. We'll start and finish at Cheshunt Station, crossing straight into the River Lee Country Park and its lakes, wetlands, locks and big skies. May is a lovely time to do it; hopefully we'll see nesting birds, hawthorn coming into blossom and the reed beds waking up. Along the way we'll stop for 20-30 minutes to have a go at sketching. We'll find a comfortable spot by the water, pick a natural focus point (a reed bed, a lock, a heron if we're lucky) and take a slower, closer look at what's around us before gathering to share and heading on. No artistic experience is needed, and no one will be judging your heron. The point is the looking, not the drawing. This is a slightly longer wander at 10.3 km, but genuinely easy going with barely any elevation. [See the route here.](https://www.alltrails.com/explore/custom-routes/custom-route-c977093?u=m&sh=pv1y6m) Optional toilet breaks should be available at two points along the route. There are no cafés on the walk itself, but there are pubs nearby the station if you fancy something afterwards, and we welcome members of the group suggesting somewhere to head after the walk. **PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVPs AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE IF YOU CAN NO LONGER ATTEND.** Any questions, just give us a shout. **What to Bring** * A pencil to sketch with — some spares will be available, and small pieces of card will be provided to sketch on * Comfortable walking shoes or trainers (paths are well-surfaced but can be muddy near the water) * A light layer, as May can still surprise you * Water + snacks * Binoculars if you have them, genuinely worth it here * A dog friend, if you have one **Route Info** * Circular route, starting and finishing at Cheshunt Station ([https://share.google/HiRebm6USByDXXU2l](https://share.google/HiRebm6USByDXXU2l)) (what3words[///toned.notion.clouds](https://w3w.co/toned.notion.clouds)) * We'll meet at 13:15 for a hard start at 13:30 — please do try to be on time. We'll share our live location via the WhatsApp group on the day. * Distance: 10.3 km / 6.4 miles * Duration: approx. 2 hrs 30 mins (steady pace, plus sketching stop) * We'll walk rain or shine — come prepared 🌦️ **Getting There:** Cheshunt is on the Liverpool Street to Hertford East line, around 30 minutes direct. Check your journey before you travel as weekend services can vary. **About Wildish Club** [Wildish Club ](https://www.wildishclub.co.uk)is a place for outside people — bringing curious, friendly folk together across the UK to do interesting things outdoors. It’s a bit like Cubs, but for adults. [You can join Wildish Club London via our website (it’s free) ](https://www.wildishclub.co.uk/join-the-club)to get access to our Wildish WhatsApp community, where you can: * Connect with other Wildish folk outside of events * Hear about upcoming wanders and meets before they appear on Meetup * Track our live location during wanders (handy if you're running late) * Share nature finds, photos, and ideas for future adventures If you'd like to support Wildish Club and help more people get outside, you can also become a Wildish Supporter via our website. Some supporter tiers also come with a few extra perks, including: * Access to Wildish Zines * Discounts on Wildish Club Coffee * Printed quarterly Wildish Guide, Monthly Wildish Club Coffee & Discounts at the Wildish Store (for top supporters) *Event image: Illustrated / Original photography credit: anemoneprojectors / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 2.0)*
DIY IN A DAY – PLUMBING
DIY IN A DAY – PLUMBING
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-plumbing-duplicate/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-plumbing-duplicate/) ⋆⋆⋆ Learn how to tackle some basic plumbing tasks around the home in this practical, hands-on workshop. During this one-day weekend workshop, our experienced tutor will walk you through some ‘dry’ exercises to top up your skills in the ‘wet arts’ of your home. Plumbing = Water in and water out. There will be plenty of time to learn how to isolate the water supply, fix a leaky tap, rescue something from a U bend and unclog a blocked sink. All the basic essentials that you need to be able to do yourself without the expense of calling someone in. Learn the principles of replacing a tap, if the replacement washer didn’t do the trick, or if you are just a fashionista that wants the latest design. Get the know-how of how to fit a washing machine and a dishwasher to the ‘loo’, where you will learn how to replace any non-working part in your cistern. Warm up your knowledge of your heating system – how it works and how and when to bleed a radiator or adjust the pressure on your boiler. You will also practice how to remove and replace silicone sealant around the bath and shower. So you can go home and give your bathroom a mini-makeover, without spending a fortune. All of our courses take place in a safe environment. There is no use of blow torch or welding equipment and no running water systems. Every exercise is done on dry disconnected examples but with enough detail to add confidence to any learner. This course is created to add to any homeowner’s proficiency and sense of self-sufficiency. It will also benefit housing landlords who want to take on minor repairs in their properties. Leave with the confidence to tackle some basic plumbing jobs around the house and gain some independence. All personal protection, tools and materials are included. Beginners welcome.
PREPARE & PAINT
PREPARE & PAINT
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/prepare-paint-206/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/prepare-paint-206/) ⋆⋆⋆ Learn to decorate in one day, 10am – 5pm. All set to decorate one room… or perhaps your entire home? Brush up your decorating techniques by messing up our workshop, instead of your living room! Painting a room is a great way to transform your home interior, without it costing the earth. But it can be a daunting task and everyone wants to have that professional-looking finish. What’s the secret to decorating success? Preparation and practice. Our Prepare & Paint workshop is a very practical class. From clearing the space to cleaning up brushes, we will take you methodically through the whole process. We will guide you through the importance and process of preparation: How to fill gaps and blemishes to make the surfaces smooth and ready for paint. You will practice using different tools and materials, experiment with different qualities of brushes, and finally learn how to apply paint to where you want and not all over yourself. In the morning, each student will have a panel of ‘wall’ and woodwork to work on. You will learn how to select the correct tools and materials and prepare a room for painting, from cleaning the paintwork to filling small and large holes in the walls and woodwork. Learn what materials to use and how to apply the filler and how to sand the surfaces in preparation for painting. We will even show you how to prepare areas that have been damaged by water stains, flaky plaster, and lost areas of wood. In the afternoon, you will learn how to select the correct paint and judge the correct situation to use primer and undercoat and how to paint ceilings, walls, and woodwork. Get to grips with how to paint edge lines that are crisp and sharp. Delight in painting without drips or masking tape and learn how to select and care for a paintbrush. We will even show you how to clean a brush and a roller so that they will give you years of service. Brush up your decorating techniques by practising under the guidance of an experienced decorator, who can answer your decorating problems as well, so bring photos of the snags in your home and take away lots of confidence to tackle the tasks at hand. All personal protection, tools, and materials are included. Suitable for absolute beginners. Enjoyable for everyone. This workshop takes place over one day.
Free Human Towers Rehearsal + Social (Sunday)
Free Human Towers Rehearsal + Social (Sunday)
Sunday rehearsal with Castellers of London. Meet us at the OBC Community Centre to help build human towers! This get together is a great opportunity for you to meet new friends, socialise and have a go and explore your abilities as a human tower builder a.k.a Casteller! For newcomers we have a team of trained Castellers who will introduce you to the group, guide you through the activity and help you safely take part in this unique Catalan tradition. When you arrive just approach us as we are really friendly! If in doubt ask for Cuss! Please let us know if you are bringing guests. After the rehearsal we go to a nearby pub for social drinks where everyone is welcome :) What do you need? 1. Ideally a cotton shirt: to protect your neck and shoulders, the more durable the shirt/top the better. We do not recommend any thin items of clothing! 2. Jeans: allowing you to move freely without breaking. 3. Mask: We still require the use of a mask as you will be very close to your fellow Castellers - basically you will be hugging people! The rest of the equipment is on us! We take health and safety very seriously, both in relation to COVID-19 and also the activity- please be assured that the safety of all participants is of the utmost importance to us and we take all necessary precautions to minimize the risk, ensuring we all have a great time! Our regular members won't be filling in the Meet Up to say they are going 🙂 So don't be put off if you see only a handful have said they are going. A minimum of 25 on the day is normal. What the Meet Up may show is how many new people like yourself are going.
London Indoor Bouldering morning
London Indoor Bouldering morning
Join OutdoorLads weekly Saturday bouldering morning event at Vauxwall West - please check our main event page on our website (link in the comments below). We welcome all members of the LGBTQ+ community, and you will be socialising with a supportive group boulderers who are always happy to introduce complete beginners to the sport or solve difficult bouldering problems together. This event is for members of all levels of experience and all are welcome to come along to any of the sessions. Bouldering is unique. There are few sports out there that offer a mental and physical challenge no matter what skill level you are at. Each route consists of several holds that the climber uses, focusing on problem-solving and technical movements to help them reach the top. No two routes are ever the same, and the colour-coded system indicates the difficulty level, so there's a climb for everyone to enjoy! If you have never tried bouldering before, please ensure that you have gone through the centre's safety and induction video beforehand (https://londonclimbingcentres.co.uk/pre-register/) as you will be required to answer a few safety questions when registering at the centre.
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
If you crave depth and genuine connection, join a walking think tank of curious people, topics spark meaningful conversations, and you leave inspired. ## Details [The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
