Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself. **ABOUT THE EVENT** This event is a fun, communal event to train your creative writing muscle. **It's easy and fun, and writers with every level of expertise and every kind of experience are wleomce to join!** This is how it works: Everyone will receive a prompt, and they will need to write a short piece based on that for about 45 minutes to 1h. After that, everyone will read or listen to what the others have written, and we will comment and discuss. We don't aim at criticizing, but at helping and elevating each other. Writing should be fun; writing together is even funnier! Sharing what you have written is optional. You can just join to unleash your creativity and follow the conversation on other's creative journeys. We meet for a circa 2,5 hour session at Mad for Coffee in Cipete for our creative writing challenges. The writing challenge is as follows: 1. Prepare your writing kit (pen and paper, notebook, laptop, phone … take your pick) 2. The theme for each writing challenge session will be different. (For example: “Fools". You can refer to anything you like, from April Fool’s Day to simply feeling silly for doing something.) 3. You have only 45 minutes to 1 h to write anything based on that theme, whether it’s a poem, a flash fiction, a short story, or just a rant. 4. After that time, gather and start sharing what you have just written. (This is, of course, **optional** for those willing to do it.) 5. At the end we will discuss our writing process, and what we liked in other's pieces. We don't want to criticize, but to help and support each others as writers! 6. Just show up and dive into the challenge. Everyone will be working on their stuff, and we won't discuss it during writing. This event will be held on **Saturday, 18 April at 7:00 p.m.** We’ll play one or two 30 minute games, depending on the group and how the evening goes. Games can be played with **4 to 8 players at a time**, and there are **several arenas**, so we should have good flexibility on the night. The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome.
