BECKENHAM & BROMLEY MYN PUB EVENING IN PENGE
BECKENHAM & BROMLEY MYN PUB EVENING IN PENGE
We hold two pub evenings a month on the first and third Wednesdays, with all the other Wednesdays being Zoom pub evenings. We also normally have a monthly quiz on the last Wednesday of the month, during the Zoom evening, at about 9pm, where a different member of our group prepares the questions to be used each month. This means that tonight is an actual pub evening. We are meeting at the Moon and Stars in Penge High Street, near the Sainsbury supermarket. The pub is a Wetherspoon establishment so we all know what to expect! We usually try to sit towards the back of the pub, possibly in one of the booths on the right hand side. Look for the IVC name on one of the tables. If you cannot find us, phone (but not text) Roland on 07761 265 390.
Palindromes (2004)
Palindromes (2004)
Palindromes is a pseudo-sequel to Todd Solondz's acclaimed debut, Welcome to the Dollhouse, with a few of the same characters. It shares a curdled vision of working class suburbia as well as a mixture of painful self awareness, tragically black comedy and social maladjustment. As ever with Solondz, it isn't for the faint of heart. The film follows a young girl called Aviva, who wants *very* badly to become a mother, to the shock of her family, and the community around her. If that's too simple, Palindromes experiments by splitting itself into eight separate parts, each of which involve Aviva being played by someone different (including, at one point, Jennifer Jason Leigh). Going to be honest, I haven't seen this, but I am intrigued. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ht6ewQlXhY Tickets here: https://thenickel.co.uk/screening/356 This is at the Nickel, so let's meet at 8pm for a pre-drink round the corner at The Craft Beer Co. and head in for a little after half eight.

It no longer sucks to be you because, after more than two decades, *Avenue Q* is back on the block! Book your official tickets to the Tony Award winning musical now. ### **About Avenue Q** Recent graduate Princeton moves into a run-down New York apartment on Avenue Q, where he meets an eccentric group of neighbours, including: Kate Monster, a sweet kindergarten teaching assistant with big dreams; Rod, a closeted Republican banker; Nicky, his laid-back roommate, and Trekkie Monster, who’s addicted to the internet. As they navigate love, work, money and the search for purpose, this unforgettable bunch of puppets discover that life’s biggest lessons aren’t always as simple as they seemed on children’s television. With its sharp wit, catchy songs and wicked sense of humour, Avenue Q proves that being a grown-up isn’t as easy as it looks. ### **It’s worth the applause** * The Broadway musical received 6 Tony Award nominations, winning for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. The cast recording was also up for a Grammy! * The West End production was nominated for Best New Musical at the 2007 Olivier Awards. * Avenue Q may be set in New York, but the show has gone global. The felt-fuelled musical has played in Australia, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Portugal, South Africa and Spain, among others. * Original Broadway director **Jason Moore**(*Pitch Perfect, Shrek the Musical*) and original puppet designer, **Rick Lyon**, have returned for the 2026 revival! Automating Greener Code: Using AI Agents to optimise software efficiency
Automating Greener Code: Using AI Agents to optimise software efficiency
There are many resources available for guidance on how to write code that is efficient and results in more sustainable software applications, but applying these at scale can be challenging, and often isn’t a priority for busy teams. GitHub have recently released Agentic Workflows, a way of specifying automation tasks in human-readable format to be performed by an AI agent as part of a GitHub Actions workflow. In this talk, Max Mizzi from GitHub's Sustainability team gives an overview of Agentic Workflows, and will demonstrate how they can be used to improve software efficiency through both structured green software rules and autonomous performance engineering. He'll finish by walking through a real-world use-case showing how the technology helped to dramatically reduce the energy consumption - and carbon footprint - of a major website. Come along if you want to learn more about using AI to improve the energy efficiency of your software. Check out the Green Software Brighton [website](https://greensoftwarebrighton.co.uk/) for links to previous talks. Arrive from 18:00 for pizza and drinks. Event will start at 18:30. We always head for a drink and a chat locally afterwards too. --- ***Thank you to Runway East for use of their space to host our events and to Silicon Brighton and the Green Software Foundation for supporting us.***

FULL - Electric Shuffle: Interactive Shuffleboard | London 20s and 30s
FULL - Electric Shuffle: Interactive Shuffleboard | London 20s and 30s
**We don’t do boring Wednesdays... and so on 20th May, to spice up your midweek, we’ve lined up another of London's best activities.** Yep that's right - we'll be heading to one of the most popular activity bars in the city, **Electric Shuffle** in Kings Cross. To kick off the night, we've booked out a space beforehand where you can have some social drinks, meet people, and connect with your fellow 20s and 30s ahead of the main event. If you've never been to Electric Shuffle before, they've reimagined the classic pub game of shuffleboard and brought it into the 21st century with cutting edge vision technology and automatic scoring. The technology adds a whole new dimension to the game, with a range of fast, competitive multi-player modes designed to get everyone involved. From **“Territory”, "Eclipse" to “Amplifier”,** over the course of the evening we'll be putting our shuffleboard skills to the test against one another. Best of all, whilst these nights would typically cost £17pp, we've secured an exclusive discount - so this **whole night is just £7.50!** It should be a really enjoyable night and we'd love to see lots of you there but sadly, these places are very limited and so we will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. And so if you are keen to join, please do RSVP as soon as you can! \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- **WHERE/WHEN** We’ve booked out tables at a nearby pub beforehand from 7:30pm, if you want to grab a drink before the experience. The Alt/Cult Spring Social
The Alt/Cult Spring Social
Okay, so spring has already sprung. But late May is the point of the year when the temperature doesn't plunge 10 degrees the moment the sun sets or goes behind a cloud, so what better time to catch up with old friends and make new ones over drinks? This time, we're meeting at Frank's, a rooftop bar in Peckham which is reopening after its winter hibernation. Yes, you have to walk up a few stories, but you're rewarded with an array of high-level installation art and arguably the best view in South London (don't worry, there'll be a venue change if the weather looks bleak!). The entrance is around the corner from the area's iconic cinema, the PeckhamPlex. And if you need more incentive, here's a timely article about the venue: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2026/may/12/bold-tendencies-car-park-that-changed-british-art Usually, we kick these off around 7pm, but as it's outdoors I'm setting the start time earlier so people can make the most of the sunshine if they want.
Sketchbook: National Portrait Gallery
Sketchbook: National Portrait Gallery
Trying out something a bit different this week. Let's sketch inside the National Portrait Gallery! (Ive changed this from a Friday night late to Saturday instead) This is by far and away my favourite gallery in London so this one should be special :D Let's meet outside the entrance to the gallery at 18.30. I'll wait outside for a bit for any stragglers and then we can all meet again back outside at 20.30. Maybe we can grab a drink at the lovely Chandos pub afterwards! Nearest Tube Stop: Leicester Square/Charing Cross Completely free of charge, no need to sign up, bring a friend! Feel free to drop in for the whole two hours or just short while if you'd prefer. Look for the tall ginger fella sketching away as the central meetup spot, but feel free to roam as far and wide as you like and sketch anything you damn well please! Please bring your own sketchbooks and pens/pencils. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- About Sketchbook London Every week we will choose a location around the magnificent city of London and draw people, buildings, pigeons, bins, anything you want.... No payment, no pressure, no need to sign up, just show up and draw for a couple of hours. All levels, abilities and professions welcome, bring a friend! Zero pressure to interact, network, impress in any way, this is just a way to get out and about and appreciate the joy of urban sketching and all the weird and wonderful creatures that inhabit this thriving metropolis. I am a storyboard artist working in animation and I am happy to discuss sketching techniques or give feedback on any work but this is by no means an exclusive event for artists, all are welcome :)

THE CHRISTOPHERS! + Drinks at The Queens in Crouch End!
**THE CHRISTOPHERS!** **Director:** Steven Soderbergh **Cast:** Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, James Corden, Jessica Gunning What is the value of art? Does it reside in personal expression? Cultural longevity? Financial worth? These questions fuel Steven Soderbergh’s gloriously entertaining comedy, THE CHRISTOPHERS. Julian Sklar (McKellen) was once a star of London’s 1960’s and 70’s pop art explosion, but he hasn’t painted in decades and has been broke for years. His two estranged children, desperate for an inheritance, hire Lori, an art restorer and former forger (Coel), to pose as a prospective assistant in order to access unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in storage. A sharp and remarkable tale of creativity, legacy, and avarice.
