AI Essentials for PMs (Workshop in Zurich)
AI Essentials for PMs (Workshop in Zurich)
**AI Essentials for Product Managers (beyond the basics)** (Prices go up on May 15!) AI is reshaping product management, from how we discover problems to how we ship and improve features. This hands-on, one-day workshop goes beyond the basics: you'll sharpen how you run AI-assisted discovery, scale your own and your team's productivity with agents and automations, and learn how to build AI-powered products where the real work is no longer building the prototype but deciding when the output is good enough to ship. **Who is this for?** * Mid to senior product managers who already use AI and want to level up * PMs leading discovery or delivery on AI-powered features * Product people who want frameworks that hold up under real product pressure, not demo-ware **Course Content** *AI-Assisted Product Discovery.* We'll look at how discovery itself changes when agents can set up and maintain a research repository, synthesize qualitative insights, and run quantitative analyses alongside you. We'll talk candidly about discovery slop, research that looks shiny but is actually shitty, and how to avoid producing it. You'll practice using vibe coding from a discovery lens: choosing the right thing to test, picking the right kind of prototype, and setting it up so it delivers real signal in a live setting rather than just looking impressive in a demo. *Scaling Productivity with AI.* From building your own AI agents to designing automations across your stack, you'll learn how to spot the highest-leverage use cases in your daily work and your team's workflows, and how to actually set them up pragmatically with the tools you already use. *Building AI Products.* Shipping AI products changes what product management looks like. You often have a feasible prototype on day one; the real challenge is improving the output, handling non-determinism, and deciding when it's good enough to launch. We'll go hands-on with the building blocks that make this tractable: evaluations, observability tooling, and the product decisions around them. *Driving AI Transformation.* Getting good at AI as an individual PM is one thing; shifting an entire product organization is another. Julia will share how she is leading AI transformation at the SaaS startup she works at: how she moved the mindset of the organization, built momentum for innovation, and keeps the company on the front foot instead of waiting to be disrupted. You'll take away a clearer picture of what your role can look like in that shift, and how to start driving it from where you sit today. Throughout the day you'll work through concrete product scenarios, cut through the hype, and leave with frameworks and tools you can apply the very next day, whether you're improving how you discover, how you work, or what you ship. Throughout the day, Julia will weave in lessons from driving AI transformation inside a SaaS startup, so you leave with perspective on both the craft and the organizational shift around it. To make sure everyone arrives on the same footing, you'll receive around 2 hours of pre-workshop video material covering AI literacy essentials: how LLMs actually work, their risks and limitations, and the fundamentals of prompt engineering. The workshop itself then starts where the basics end. **What you cannot expect** * A deep dive into vibe coding as a craft. We will vibecode, but through a product discovery lens, not as a goal in itself. * A prompt engineering course. The pre-work covers the fundamentals so we can spend the day on harder, more product-specific problems. * Superficial blabla. We go into the real struggles of doing product management with and around AI, not the hype reel. “With Julia’s clarity, hands-on guidance, strong visuals and buzzword-free examples, the spark was unmistakable. She debunked the myths, demystified AI and left everyone excited to try it in product management. A real rockstar workshop.”Melanie Wyssen-Voß, Vice President Product FACT24 **COMBI-TICKETS** This workshop can be bought in combination with the Product Academy SUMMIT at a reduced rate on [our conference webite](https://eventfrog.ch/en/p/courses-seminars/vocational-education/ai-essentials-for-product-managers-workshop-7392202884182503088.html). (Prices go up on May 15, 2026!) **YOUR TRAINER** Julia Bastian is a Product Leader with more than nine years of experience building and scaling digital products and driving innovation. As VP Product at Alasco, a venture-backed proptech company, she scaled the product and engineering organization from 5 to 50 people and built strong thought leadership around B2B product discovery. Today, she leads Alasco’s AI transformation, ensuring the company harnesses AI to stay ahead of disruption and deliver real customer value. Alongside her leadership role, Julia works as an AI educator and consultant. Her goal is to accelerate product managers’ AI learning journey by making the topic approachable and lowering the entry barrier for those just starting out. Staying grounded in a real product environment is essential to her. She works hands-on on AI topics, from automating internal workflows to integrating AI agents into the product, rather than only talking about them from a consulting perspective. Julia has a special ability to visualize complex ideas, which helps her share her knowledge in a clear and engaging way and make difficult concepts feel simple and actionable.

When we turn from frameworks and slides to the fundamental questions strategy needs to answer, a new possibility of pragmatic decision-making emerges – No matter your company size, industry, or job title. In this workshop-from-the stage, we will create clarity for your product strategy challenges by tackling them live and in real-time in Miro. Be prepared to come with your real-life questions, and leave with clarity on your next step. DOMINIQUE JOST (Head of Product at Doist, Bern): **End-to-End PM or End-of PM?** No hype. No hero stories. Just the practical, unfiltered lessons from [Doist](https://www.doist.com/)’s (makers of [Todoist](https://www.todoist.com/) and [Twist](https://twist.com/)) shift toward end-to-end PMs, and what AI is and isn’t changing about the craft. If you want a grounded, and messy view of what PM work will look like in the next few years, this talk is for you. JULIA BASTIAN (Product Lead Innovation & GenAI at Alasco, Munich): **AI Discovery Slop - The research that looks shiny but is sh\*tty** AI has made discovery output faster and shinier than ever. But fast and shiny is not the same as deep and true. Real discovery is about finding contradictions, sitting with complexity, and synthesising and not about smoothing everything into a polished blur. Product people have stopped thinking. And nobody notices because the output looks great. But product sense is built through thinking, not through consuming. This talk is about what real discovery looks like in the age of AI - for both B2B and B2C companies. Stop consuming shiny discovery slop. Start thinking again. STEPHANIE HÜRLAND (Head of AI Products and Strategy at ZDFSparks): **Two worlds, one role** – **AI Product Management through client and provider lenses** AI product management is shaped by two fundamentally different perspectives: the viewpoint of product teams defining needs, goals, and strategic direction, and the viewpoint of those responsible for designing, building, and delivering the actual AI solution. Both perspectives influence how decisions are made, how value is defined, and how complexity and uncertainty are managed throughout the product lifecycle. The session provides an overview of the key differences and shared challenges between these two perspectives, and highlights what successful AI product management requires when navigating both. The session includes practical examples that illustrate how different perspectives influence the way AI products are shaped, evaluated, and developed. SEBASTIAN CASTANEDA (former Team Lead at Foodora, Vienna): **Driving growth with limited engineering capacity: How creative experiments lifted Foodora's tips by 60%** Foodora Austria raised rider tips by 60%, while facing a challenge: after a couple of complex iterations and proper A/B tests, engineering capacity became limited. In this talk, we’ll go through the experiments they ran, including the trade-offs and challenges, learning what worked and what didn’t. We will explore how small UI tweaks, working with data, and understanding the cultural context can drive growth, even if you do not have a large analytics team or advanced testing tools. FLORIAN BONNET (VP Solutions & Growth at Veriff): **How to turn oproduct work into revenue outcomes with KPI trees** Product teams often track many metrics but struggle to clearly connect their work to business impact. This talk introduces North Star Metrics and KPI Trees as a practical framework for understanding product performance, customer behavior, and the levers that drive revenue outcomes. Florian will walk through how effective KPI Trees are structured, how North Star Metrics are typically defined across different contexts, and why this approach works for organizations of any size or model. Through concrete examples, you’ll see how KPI Trees can go beyond performance tracking to help translate product metrics into the language of business — bridging the gap that often exists between product teams and leadership. You’ll leave with a clearer mental model of how outcome-driven product organizations connect day-to-day work to measurable business results. Thank you to our sponsor [On](https://www.on.com/) for hosting us again and to [airfocus by Lucid](https://airfocus.com/) as well as [89grad](http://www.89grad.ch/) for sponsoring the event!
Poolside Chats: Design, Engineering, & UX
Poolside Chats: Design, Engineering, & UX
Hi! I’m Stephanie, a product designer based in Zurich. I’m looking to build a community of curious designers, developers, product managers, and other creative technologists who enjoy thoughtful conversations outside the usual networking events, conferences, and office spaces. This summer, we’ll meet at local Badis and neighborhood pools around Zurich to relax, connect, and share ideas in a casual setting. Bring a passion project, a problem you’re thinking about, an interesting article, a new tool, or simply your perspective. Topics might include: * Design, technology, and product thinking * Ethical, responsible, and sustainable uses of AI * Creativity, learning, and personal projects * Philosophy, culture, and the future of digital products The goal isn’t pitching, recruiting, or performing expertise. It’s creating a welcoming space to exchange ideas, practice communicating them, and learn from one another without judgment. If spending less time in meeting rooms and more time having meaningful conversations by the water sounds appealing, I’d love to meet you. See you poolside.

JULIA BASTIAN (Product Lead Innovation & GenAI at Alasco, Munich): **From lagging metrics to leading decision - How B2B teams can lead with qualitative data** In B2B companies, sales often drives product decisions—not because it’s the best path, but because product teams lack the data to challenge it and steer confidently themselves. Unlike B2C, B2B data is often slow, sparse, and arrives too late to drive real-time learning. The result? Product managers feel stuck— aware that the current approach isn’t delivering impact, but unsure how to change a system that keeps them reactive. This talk is a call to action for B2B product teams ready to lead again. You’ll leave with four practical actions to shift the dynamics in you organization tomorrow! At the heart of this shift is qualitative data—not just as a source of deep insight, but as a foundation for building up organizational gut feeling. We’ll dive into practical techniques for gathering, sharing, and acting on qualitative data—and why organizational learning is the true unlock for product-led growth in complex B2B environments. Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Can Artificial Intelligence “See”?
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Can Artificial Intelligence “See”?
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Can Artificial Intelligence ‘See’?”** A look at how humans and artificial intelligence systems interpret the visual world in fundamentally different ways, with Arryn Robbins, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Richmond and cognitive scientist who researches visual attention, perception, and category learning. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see) .] Artificial intelligence can now identify faces, categorize objects, describe scenes, and outperform humans on certain visual tasks. But does AI actually “see” the world the way that people do? Or does it arrive at correct answers using representations that differ markedly from human perception? Join Arryn Robbins of the University of Richmond for a fascinating exploration of how humans and AI construct meaning from visual information and a look at comparisons between human perception and AI that reveal just how dynamic and context-dependent our own visual systems really are. Dr. Robbins, who previously has given excellent Profs and Pints talks on flaws and biases in human visual perception, will draw from research in cognitive science, visual perception, and AI vision systems. She’ll explain how human perception is not merely a simple recording of the world, but an active process shaped by expectations, context, goals, and recent experience. You’ll learn how humans form flexible mental representations that allow us to recognize objects across changing environments and conditions, and why those representations continuously adapt as we interact with the world. Many AI systems, by contrast, learn visual categories through statistical patterns in data. They can produce impressive results, but sometimes they also produce strange and unexpected failures, and sometimes they classify images in ways that seem strange to us. Dr. Robbins will discuss what these differences reveal about the nature of perception itself, and why the mismatch between human and AI representations matters for technologies like self-driving cars, medical imaging, facial recognition, and automated surveillance. Important for anyone trying to understand the rapidly growing role of AI in daily life, this talk will explore one of the biggest questions in cognitive science and artificial intelligence: What does it actually mean to “see” and understand the world? (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: “Eye Farm” by Nevit Dilmen (Wikimedia Commons).

The End of Human-Scale AppSec
The End of Human-Scale AppSec
For decades, application security has been built around a simple assumption: humans are the primary producers of software. We train developers, review their pull requests, model threats in design meetings, and build controls around human decision-making. That assumption is rapidly breaking down. As AI coding assistants evolve into autonomous software agents, organizations will gain access to an effectively unlimited engineering workforce capable of producing software at a speed no human team can match. The pressure to adopt these systems will be driven not by curiosity, but by competition. Companies that successfully harness agentic development will ship faster, iterate faster, and potentially outpace those that do not. This shift forces a fundamental rethinking of application security. The future of AppSec is not securing developers—it is governing an agentic workforce. Threat modeling, code review, security testing, and change management will not disappear, but they will need to operate at machine speed and increasingly be performed by systems rather than people. In this talk, Ken Johnson, CTO of DryRun Security, explores what the next decade of application security may look like, the assumptions that will no longer hold, and why security professionals must understand these systems deeply if they hope to influence the future rather than react to it.

NOVA Brain Computing — DC's Only Community at the Brain–Machine Frontier
NOVA Brain Computing — DC's Only Community at the Brain–Machine Frontier
**The Neural Revolution Is Happening Right Now — Are You Plugged In?** Imagine typing with your thoughts. Steering a robotic limb with a neural signal. Lifting depression by stimulating a single brain circuit. Loading a skill straight into memory. This isn't science fiction. It's happening in labs, clinics, and startups around the world — and the DC region, home to NIH, the BRAIN Initiative, and DARPA's neural-interface programs, is one of the places it's being funded and built. **This Event Is for You If…** * ✅ You're a **technologist** curious about the computing paradigm beyond screens and keyboards * ✅ You work in **healthcare** and want to see how neural interfaces will reshape patient care * ✅ You're an **entrepreneur** hunting the next real opportunity in deep tech * ✅ You're a **researcher** looking to plug into the broader BCI ecosystem * ✅ You're simply **fascinated** by where neuroscience and technology collide * ✅ You **missed our last meetup** and want to reconnect with the community **Why That List Makes Us Unique in DC** Read it again. A technologist, a clinician, a founder, a researcher, and the merely curious — in the same room, on the same afternoon. That mix is the whole point, and it's what no other event in the region offers. Neuroscience conferences are built for neuroscientists. AI meetups are built for engineers. Healthcare summits are built for clinicians. Each one serves a single silo. Brain computing doesn't live in any one of those silos — it lives in the overlap. So we built the one community in DC dedicated to that overlap: a place where the person decoding neural signals can talk to the person who'll commercialize the device, who can talk to the clinician who'll put it in front of a patient. **What You'll Walk Away With** This isn't just another tech meetup. Because of who's in the room, you get: * **Frontline insight** from people actively decoding neural signals * **Direct access** to the scientists, engineers, and founders pushing BCI forward — not a panel behind a rope line * **Hands-on work** with real neural data and BCI systems * **Career connections** in one of the fastest-growing fields in tech * **First looks** at breakthrough research before it reaches mainstream media **The Stakes Are Real** We're at an inflection point. The next decade decides whether brain-computer interfaces *expand* human potential or *deepen* inequality — whether they're built in the open or behind closed doors, whether the benefits are shared or hoarded. Your voice, your expertise, your perspective shapes which future we get. **Join the Minds Shaping Tomorrow** This is your entry point into the neural-interface revolution — your chance to stand alongside the researchers reading neural code, the engineers building the interfaces, the clinicians treating patients, and the founders bringing it all to market. **Saturday, June 13 · 12:00–3:00 PM** isn't just a meetup. It's the one place in DC where all of those people come together around brain computing. **Come curious. Leave connected. Return transformed.** Because the future of human-computer interaction isn't happening *to* you — it's happening *with* you.
