We continue our regular **monthly photography meet-up** sessions for artists and photographers in South London at the **Phoenix Community Center** in **Crystal Palace**. These group sessions are suitable for beginners, emerging talent and intermediate practitioners who wish to expand their photography or lens-based practice. The sessions are led and guided, yet invite self-determination and participation, with a vision for the group to develop its own goals, both personal as well as a group ambition. Meetings take place usually once per month, on Wednesday evenings 7pm-9pm. Sessions can be booked individually, the fee is 25£ per session. You are eligible for a reduced fee of £20 for a taster session if you join us for the first time. You can join at any point. Okay! The Clapham monthly meetup is back to it's usual time and place. We now have TWO evening meetups each month in different areas of London. The monthly indie pub night is relaxing social with other indie game devs in London. Chat about all things game/tech related, make new friends and test out some demos from community members. We have a life model in a **single pose for three hours**. Usually **the same pose is repeated the following week so that you can give six hours to your work,** remember to book the same position for both weeks. Our studio is purpose built and well equipped with easels, drawing boards, clips and so on. We sell materials at reasonable prices so if you forget anything we should be able to help you out. We have professional lighting for the models and and full spectrum lights for the studio to give you a good experience. We break for 5 minutes for the model every 25 minutes and then for twenty minutes at 11.30am to have a cup of coffee and a biscuit (small charge). Our studio has a light and friendly atmosphere. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter, come and paint with us! We hold two pub evenings a month on the first and third Wednesdays, with all the other Wednesdays being Zoom pub evenings. We also normally have a monthly quiz on the last Wednesday of the month, during the Zoom evening, at about 9pm, where a different member of our group prepares the questions to be used each month. This means that tonight is an actual pub evening. We are meeting at the Moon and Stars in Penge High Street, near the Sainsbury supermarket. The pub is a Wetherspoon establishment so we all know what to expect! We usually try to sit towards the back of the pub, possibly in one of the booths on the right hand side. On this photo walk, we're taking a completely different approach to West London, skipping the usual tourist bottlenecks at Notting Hill Gate. We’ll explore the transition from picturesque, tranquil canal to gritty urban spots, through to vibrant local market. Beginners and experienced photographers are all welcome. * **Little Venice:** We start along the scenic canal towpath by the colourful narrowboats, boat owners and canal life before heading toward Meanwhile Gardens where the scene shifts and the traditional urban street photography scenes open up. * **Golborne Road:** The heart of the local Moroccan and Portuguese communities. With a quieter flea market and community vibe, the area offers great opportunities for candid street portraits and urban scenes, overlooked by the iconic brutalist style Trellick Tower. * **Portobello Road:** We’ll walk the length of the market in reverse. Entering from the northern end lets us catch the local characters first, before following the street's natural transition into the Notting Hill Gate traditional starting point which is where we'll end things. Members of the public are invited to view the wonders of the universe through the telescopes of NOVAC volunteers at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. You do not need to be a member of the club or own any astronomical equipment to attend. Telescopes will be provided by the Smithsonian and pre-approved members of the NOVAC. No other personal telescopes are permitted at the event. The event will take place on the bus parking lot of the museum. **Please park your vehicle at the south end of the main visitors lot and follow signs and red lights to the observing site. As a reminder, parking during the event is free.** Have a cosmic question? One of NOVAC's astronomers or museum staff will be happy to help you. As the sky gets dark, be prepared to enjoy the wonders of the night sky! Don't forget to dress warmly. Please check the weather forecast. Hike in the moonlight along the C&O Canal towpath to Great Falls, Maryland, 4 miles **Time**: Hike starts promptly at 8:15 p.m. and goes to approximately 10:15 p.m. (2 hours). It’s best to arrive about 10-15 minutes before the start of the hike (around 8:00 – 8:10 p.m). **Meeting Place**: Parking lot across from Old Angler's Inn, 10801 MacArthur Blvd., Potomac, MD. **Reservations**: Unlike CHC's Saturday bus hikes, signing up for Moonlight Hikes is not required. However, if you do sign up, you can be notified of a possible change in plan. Usually, light rain alone will not cancel the hike--for safety reasons, severe weather or a thunderstorm will. **Directions:** a. From the Beltway (I-495), take exit # 41, which is immediately north of the American Legion Bridge. When taking exit # 41, take it west towards Carderock / Great Falls, Maryland. b. This puts you on the Clara Barton Parkway, heading west. Stay on the Clara Barton Parkway for 1.7 miles until you come to a flashing stoplight. c. Make a left turn at the flashing stoplight onto MacArthur Blvd. Go for 1 mile until you see the Old Anglers Inn on your right side. Park in the parking lots across the street from the Old Anglers Inn. What to bring: a. A flashlight b. A small bottle of water c. Insect repellent d. Comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes are fine) Cost / Donation: There is no charge for this hike, in accordance with CHC’s permit from the National Park Service. **Difficulty / Terrain**: This hike is mostly over flat terrain along the C&O Canal towpath and the Berma Road. This hike is considered to be an easy hike. **Ages**: This hike is open to all ages, so long as they can comfortably walk 4 miles. Parents need to be mindful of small children during the hike for their safety. **Dogs**: Dogs are welcome, so long as they are kept on a leash at all times, are friendly around people and other dogs, and are not taken out on the walkway to Olmstead Island.
