International Café Philo: Open philosophical discussion for everybody
Open philosophical discussion, thinking together about a topic in a philosophical way. The topic will be chosen by the participants at the beginning of the event. No application, no entrance fee. (But as we are meeting in a normal coffee shop, you have to order at least a cup of coffee or tea.)
Experience the joy of real dialogue with other people about the really important topics of life! Follow the white rabbit into the wonderland of philosophy...
You find informations about me and the event [here](https://sophonautik.ch/english/).
Je nach Gruppe kann die Veranstaltung auch auf [Deutsch](https://sophonautik.ch/deutsch/) abgehalten werden.
TRIGGERED: Wasn’t Woke Dead…??
TOPIC: Wasn’t Woke Dead…??
I wise man once said: “nobody be complaining if they had casted Terry Crews as Hellen of Troy…”
Samuel L. Jackson would be a great option in my humble opinion…
TRIGGERED is a discussion group for the young and young at heart, with philosophy as its core but focussed towards recent events, culture, and political philosophy, with a pinch of actual politics.
We’ll discuss the selected topic as a group and probably move somewhere else for another drink to talk about anything else.
Some of the points we’ll touch on:
* Briefly: What is woke?
* Netflix, Modern Hollywood and the Modern Audience.
* Case Study: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
* Influence of wokeness outside entertainment.
So…
* Has wokeness actually reached its peak?
If so, when did it do so?
* Do you go broke if you go woke?
* We might have won the war, but why doesn’t it feel like victory?
* How to fix this landscape and move forward.

Read & Riff: A Book Club for Short Story Lovers
**Would you sacrifice one innocent life if it guaranteed happiness for everyone else?**
This is one idea we will discuss at the next Read & Riff meeting, where we'll dive into **Ursula K. Le Guin's short story ‘The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.’**
**Read & Riff is a book club for short story lovers.** We come together to share what we loved, hated, questioned and everything in between about a selected story.
Read the selected story in advance, then join Debbie (your host) who will bring questions to guide the discussion and keep the conversation flowing.
**There are no experts, no homework beyond the reading, and no right answers. Just good stories and even better conversations.**

TANCHEERNA 💃🎶 Dance Friending for Absolute Beginners 🌤️
**The most enjoyable way to meet new people without going clubbing! ✨**
Tancheerna is unlike any dance event you’ve ever been to—there are no complex routines or staring at your feet. We hit the play button at 19:00 and start right away with fun group dances that are so simple, even children can do them.
Later we blend in some easy couple dances mixing European classics, modern folklore, and smooth Latin rhythms. Our evenings are all about **great music, laughter, and the simple joy of moving together.**
You don’t need a partner or any dance experience to join us. As long as you can sway to the rhythm, you belong. We use fun group mixers and rotate constantly, making it the perfect, fresh way to come alone and **connect with everyone naturally**.
At 21:00, we wrap up the music and head to the nearby bistro for drinks and socializing.

'A Private Life' on Friday 03.07 at 20 at Kino 35
Hi everyone!
Join us on **Friday, July 3rd**, for a screening of [A Private Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej2YuO54tjY) at [Kino 35](https://kino35.ifp.cz/). The film begins at **20:30.** I will be at the location around 8pm. Come and say hi (see my photo below for reference).
We will be watching a 2025 French mystery thriller, directed and co-written by Rebecca Zlotowski. Jodie Foster plays Lilian Steiner, a respected American psychiatrist living in Paris. When one of her long-term patients dies under circumstances officially ruled a suicide, Lilian becomes convinced that something doesn't add up. Rather than accepting the official explanation, she begins investigating on her own.
Expect part psychological thriller, part character study, and part exploration of guilt, perception, professional ethics, and the limits of understanding other people.
Come enjoy this screening and stay for a drink and a chat about the film afterward!
If you’d like to join us, please **purchase your own ticket** [Here](https://kino35.ifp.cz/cz/program/event4532-soukromy-zivot). I will be sitting in row 7, seat 7.
Kind request: if you register to attend but are unable to join, please change your RSVP accordingly.
Hope to see you there!

Social Comparisons: How to compare yourself with others fairly
“You shouldn’t compare yourself with others” is common advice these days. The idea is that if you compare yourself with someone who is doing better than you in something that matters to you, this social comparison is going to make you feel bad. And, therefore, it is wise to avoid social comparisons altogether.
But…
* Is it realistic to eliminate social comparisons from our lives, given that we are extremely social creatures?
* Wouldn’t we miss some of the benefits of social comparisons if we did?
* Is the problem the social comparisons themselves or our responses to those comparisons?
* Is there a way that we could adaptively respond to unfavourable social comparisons?
* Has social media transformed the effects of social comparisons?
At the next meetup, we will discuss social comparisons from psychological and practical perspectives. To inform our discussion, I have selected a practical CBT-based guide on social comparisons written by the clinical psychologist Joel Milden. You can read it here:
* [How to Compare Yourself with Others Fairly](https://psyche.co/guides/how-to-compare-yourself-with-others-fairly-and-respond-better) by Joel Milden
We will also have time to talk about ourselves and brainstorm ideas for next meetups.
See you soon.

Support Group for Failed Meditators & Other Spiritual Misfits
You went on that retreat, read the book, committed to meditating daily. And here you are at 3 am, drunkenly staring down a Žižkov doner, wondering what happened.
Come share your spiritual misadventures. You can bring a story, poem, insight, or simply come and hang out.
This is a space for anyone interested in spirituality and meditation. All paths and experiences are welcome!
We are meeting at Stromovka Park, near Stromovka Fountain. Bring something to sit on. Pets are always welcome!
We’ll start with an opening circle, short group meditation, then move into sharing and discussion.
If you arrive while we're meditating, feel free to join us quietly.
Symposium
Join us for Symposium! 🌞🌻🌳
In antiquity, a symposium was a gathering of friends who came together to recline around a shared table, where wine and conversation flowed freely into the night. Together, they would choose a topic and take turns speaking, listening, and laughing—guided by the rhythms of drink and dialogue.
Inspired by this tradition, our Symposium has no set theme. It's an invitation to come together with other curious minds, to offer up questions or ideas, and to vote together on where to begin. Whether you're hungry for connection or simply seeking space to speak and be heard, you're warmly welcomed to join the conversation.
Symposium will meet in parks throughout Prague, embracing the sunshine and pleasant weather while we have it. Bring a blanket or something to sit on. There’s no cost to join, but please bring a snack or drink to share, if you're able. Most of all, bring a curious mind and a willingness to learn from the insight of others.
Feel free to bring a friend or two--also, children and friendly dogs are welcome!
\*\*\*
If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll try to find an alternate venue—so keep an eye on the event chat or your email for updates.
Also, despite the origins of the Symposium, our goal is not necessarily to get drunk and the organizer would encourage you not to come with that sole purpose in mind. :)
The first 45 minutes of the event will be dedicated to simply getting to know one another, and we highly encourage you to join for this part. We will then vote whether to continue free conversation, to join together in a single conversation, or to split up into multiple groups. Afterwards, you’re welcome to stay or follow onto any spontaneous activity that unfolds.
A note on attendance: If you need to cancel, please do so at least a few days in advance and update your RSVP accordingly. This helps honor the host’s efforts and makes space for others who would like to attend. Repeated last-minute cancellations or no-shows may result in being placed on the waitlist for future events.
Open philosophical discussion in the heart of Prague
**These are the hottest days of the year. We will meet on the 4th of July at the entrance of the Planetárium Praha ([Královská obora 233, Bubenec, 170 21 Praha 7](https://www.google.de/maps/place/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x470b94ce6ef24a2d:0x95d62e70e8497a61?sa=X&ved=1t:8290&ictx=111)).** **From 17:00 until 17:15, we will gather in front of the planetarium. After 17:15, we shall then start searching for a nice place under the trees, where we will discuss, eat and drink together until the night…**
**If you like to have a philosophical conversation while enjoying the magnificent surroundings of the Stromovka Park, come and join us, the only condition for joining is that you bring something to eat and to drink with you. We will put all the delicious things on a blanket so that we don’t exchange only arguments…**
**Even though I normally don’t determine a topic in advance, I would like to ask you this time to make a list of some of your favorite movies. Try to imagine you have to convince another person that these movies are great. What would you say? What makes these movies important for you? What important (philosophical) questions do these movies raise or maybe even answer?**

Soft Networking Club
Join us for a slow Sunday morning coffee, real conversation, and meaningful connection at Crunch in Žižkov.
This is a space for people who want to meet others in a more present, human, and grounded way. No awkward networking energy. Just coffee, conversation, and a chance to hear each other beyond job titles.
We will gather at 10:00 am. Grab a coffee, and if you feel like it, you can also have breakfast.
Together, we will explore simple questions like:
\- Where are we in life right now?
\- What are we building\, creating\, changing\, or dreaming about?
\- What kind of support would feel helpful?
\- How can we help each other\, connect each other\, or simply witness each other?
The intention is to create a warm space where we can meet as whole humans, not only through what we do for work. Whether you are an entrepreneur, creative, coach, founder, freelancer, corporate professional, artist, multipassionate soul, or someone in transition, you are welcome.
Come as you are. Bring your curiosity, openness, and willingness to connect in a real way.

Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) If the weather is nice we will be on the back patio, otherwise we are in the cigar room.
This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us.
COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant.
Melancholia
Be prepared for an entirely different type of sci-fi movie!
Unofficially, the second movie in director Lars von Trier's "Depression Trilogy," 2011 Melancholia depicts the events that occur before a rogue planet is about to collide with the earth. Considered by many to be a masterpiece, the film was included in BFI's 2022 Sight and Sound Poll of the greatest movies of all time.
It is available at the library as well as on Kanopy.
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance.
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues.
So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them?
That is what this meeting will be all about.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This group is created by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
