**The Quiet Year** is a map game. You define the struggles of a community living after the collapse of civilization, and attempt to build something good within their quiet year. Every decision and every action is set against a backdrop of dwindling time and rising concern. The game is played using a deck of cards – each of the 52 cards corresponds to a week during the quiet year. Each card triggers certain events – bringing bad news, good omens, project delays and sudden changes in luck. At the end of the quiet year, the Frost Shepherds will come, ending the game. The Quiet Year occupies an interesting space – part roleplaying game, part cartographic poetry. We'll be running two tables of this GMless story telling game. WHAT IS ONE-SHOT SATURDAY? It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world. Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.

Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment.
