Mountain Skills 1 Course
***Mountain Skills for Only €120 / course***
Ever wanted to learn the skills you need to become a competent navigator in the Irish mountains, the UK, the Alps or beyond!
As a fully qualified mountain guide and course provider for Mountaineering Ireland and the UK, I run Mountain Skills which is a nationally accredited course and is delivered in an upland environment.
Hiking in Ireland can be challenging not only because of its wilderness, but the island has very little sign posted hiking trails in the mountains or hills. In addition to this, as being an island in the Atlantic we experience the forces of nature; storms and weather events. In other words, Ireland is probably the best place in Europe to learn a new outdoor skill like Mountain Skills.
The aim of this course is to help you learn the skills you need to get out hiking in the hills and mountains independently, safely and responsibly. You will learn how to navigate with confidence by any type of weather conditions.
A Mountain Skills course is run over 2 days in an upland environment and covers:
Map reading, map description, map scale, contour lines, land and ground features, navigation legs, simple navigation techniques, setting the map, the 5 D, estimation of direction & destination, grid reference, mountain hazards, hypothermia, mountain environment, timing, pacing, route planning, route card, emergency procedures, personal equipment, safe movement skills, river crossing and much more…
Some level of fitness is essential in taking part in this course.
Each course (MS1 / MS2) is a 20 hour syllabus which includes indoor and outdoor sessions and night navigation (MS2)
**A course includes:**
Maps and compass provided, tea breaks, course notes, 3 route cards, a free hiking day practice as part of a weekend.
**For Only €100 for under 18 and students and €120 for adults.**
Accommodations can be provided
Her are few additionnal dates:
Jan 24-25 MS2 Glenmalure, Co.Wicklow

📵 Offline Walk - Howth & Baily Lighthouse Loop⛰️🌊 (No-phone)
**The perfect way to spend a Saturday?** 🌞
Join The Offline Club Dublin as we head North to explore the rugged, breathtaking cliffs of Howth. On **Saturday, April 25th**, we’re trading the digital buzz for the sound of the waves and the fresh salty air of the Irish Sea. ⛰️🌊
**Where we meet:** We’re gathering at the **Howth DART Station** at **11:00 AM**. We’ll hang around until 11:15 to make sure everyone finds us! Maja & Lexie will be there before (visual guide will be sent a day before the walk!)
🥾 The Route:
We’ll be taking on the beautiful **Howth and Baily Lighthouse Loop**. This is a 7.6km trail that brings us along the cliff edge with views that’ll make you forget all about your Instagram feed. It’s a moderate-to-low difficulty hike with an elevation gain of 268m—enough to get the heart pumping, but plenty of time to stop and soak in the scenery. Expect about 2–3 hours of pure coastal magic!
📵 The Vibe:
No phones allowed, but you can take your "normal" camera! 📷
**📸 Bonus:** We will have a **photographer on-site**! This means you can keep your phone tucked away and still have beautiful photos of the day to look back on later. We’ll share the gallery with everyone afterwards.
✨ What to expect:
* **Coastal Views:** Stunning lookouts over the Baily Lighthouse and the cliffs.
* **Silent Time: 15-25 minutes of silent time at the stunning viewpoint**
* **Genuine Connection:** A chance to meet like-minded people who also want to spend less time on their screens.
* **Optional Social:** We’ll finish back in Howth village for an optional coffee or ice cream! 🍦
🕰️ The Schedule:
* **11:00 – 11:15 \|** Meet at Howth DART Station.
* **11:15 – 14:00 \|** The Loop: Connection with others & nature.
* **14:00 \|** Arrival back & soft goodbyes (or optional social).
**Dedicated Silent Time at one of the viewpoints!**
🐥 What to bring:
* **👟 Comfortable Shoes:** You'll need decent grip for the cliff paths!
* **🌦️ Layers & Rain Gear:** It’s Ireland in April—let’s be prepared for the sea breeze!
* **💧 Water & Snacks:** Stay hydrated as we hike.
* **💛 Yourself:** Just as you are. No "content" needed, just your presence.
* **🦮 Pets:** More than welcome! (Just remember the lead and bags 💩).
🎟️ Tickets & Support:
This walk is **donation-based**. We believe offline time should be accessible to everyone. If you’d like to support our mission and help us organise more of these events, any contribution is warmly welcomed! 💛
Love the vibe but want something more cosy? Check out our private Reading Parties and hangouts here: [https://www.meetup.com/the-offline-club-dublin/](https://www.meetup.com/the-offline-club-dublin/)
We can’t wait to see you there!

Rampage Jugger Training for beginners
Jugger is a fast paced but easy to pick up sport that is great for beginners. Its like a combination of tag rugby and fencing and is a great way to meet new people and then hit them with a padded stick. Its light contact and the only gear you need to bring is clothing you are comfortable running around in and some water.
Sutton to Howth Walk
On Sunday 26th April, we'll be doing a walk from Sutton to Howth.
**Meeting Location**
Outside Sutton Station at 12:16. The suggested train to catch leaves Dublin Connolly at 11:57 that gets into Sutton at 12:16. It actually starts in Greystones at 10:58 and stops at all stations en route so feel free to get on at the most convenient station for you.
**Route Description**
This walk is from Sutton to Howth via a less well-trodden route and then in Howth we will visiting a few places that are off the beaten track. At one point we will be walking across a beach so your footwear may get a bit sandy. The total length of the walk is around 9km. The first part of the walk is fairly flat but the second part will involve climbing a small hill.
If people are interested we could stop at a café or pub during or after walk. Or feel free to bring snacks as we could have a short break at some point. Or if people wish, we could go for Howth's famous fish and chips at the end of the walk.
Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places.

FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a fairly easy walk, but having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.
