Learning to Design Systems for Scalability
Learning to Design Systems for Scalability
**Register here (subject to approval):** **[https://luma.com/mu4wsv8t](https://luma.com/mu4wsv8t)** *This is an in-person event. Successful Registration is subject to approval.* **ABOUT** **In association with [Women's Dev Singapore](https://www.meetup.com/women-devs-sg/), [Zenika](https://www.linkedin.com/company/zenikasingapore/) presents A Practitioner’s Perspective:** Scalability is often treated as a purely technical challenge — something to solve with the right architecture, tools, or infrastructure. In reality, it is just as much about how we think. In this talk, \*\*[Fion ](https://www.linkedin.com/in/fion-sim-8427741b0/)\*\*shares her journey of learning to design for scalability through real-world experience — navigating evolving requirements, growing systems, and the trade-offs that come with them. Rather than focusing on deep technical patterns, the session explores the decision-making process behind building systems that can grow sustainably. Through practical examples, she will reflect on: * How to recognise when scalability becomes a concern * Balancing simplicity vs. future-proofing * Breaking down systems into manageable, evolvable components * Learning from constraints, failures, and iteration This session is designed for developers who are early to mid in their journey, or anyone looking to strengthen their intuition around building systems that don’t just work today — but continue to work as they scale. **About the Speaker - [Fion Sim](https://www.linkedin.com/in/fion-sim-8427741b0/):** Fion is a fullstack web developer focused on building robust, scalable applications across the modern web stack. She has hands-on experience with frontend frameworks such as Next.js and Angular, and develops backend microservices using Node.js and Prisma. Driven by curiosity and continuous learning, Fion is particularly interested in how systems evolve over time — and how thoughtful design decisions can support long-term scalability and maintainability. 📍 **Venue:** This meetup is brought to you by Zenika Singapore, 20 Bendemeer Rd, #03-10 BS Bendemeer Centre, Singapore 339914. **NOTE: Successful Registration is subject to approval. Sign up here:** https://luma.com/mu4wsv8t **EVENT SCHEDULE:** **6:30 PM - 6:45 PM:** Registration + Networking **6:45 PM to 6:55 PM:** Intro to WDS **7:00 PM to 7:10 PM:** Intro to Zenika **7:15 PM to 8:15 PM:** Learning to Design Systems for Scalability by Fion Sim, Zenika + Q&A **8:15 PM onwards:** Networking + Phototaking **TERMS & CONDITIONS** * Zenika Singapore reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. * Although very unlikely, please note that Zenika Singapore reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event if necessary. However, in case of a cancellation, Zenika Singapore will inform all attendees one day in advance and will endeavor to provide an alternative date. * Please note that photographs and/or videos will be taken at this event for marketing, publicity, and archival purposes. Robots : Reasoning and Acting
Robots : Reasoning and Acting
Robots are improving at an increasing pace - due to improvements in hardware; simulation environments; and machine learning approaches at many levels : What if your Agents could take physical form? Talks (subject to updates...): **"Putting AI Agents into Humanoid Robots" - Yip Jia Qi** Since Jia Qi last talked at our meetup in 2023, he has been working at Menlo Research - who have recently open-sourced the Asimov humanoid robot (https://asimov.inc/diy-kit). In his talk, Jia Qi will talk about what has already been accomplished, and outline Menlo's (even more ambitious) goals. **"World [Action] Models" - Martin Andrews** Martin will be giving a high-level description of the World Model landscape (including JEPA) while also comparing them to other approaches for robotics applications. **FOOD UPDATE :** Google has told us that **there WILL BE** pizza at the event \-\-\- Talks will start at 7:10pm (entry at 6:45pm) and end at around 9:00pm, at which point attendees can come up to the front for a bit of a chat with each other, and the speakers. Due to some recent security incidents at the venue please take note of the new DevSpace security procedures [https://bit.ly/devspace-security](https://bit.ly/devspace-security) Attendees will not be admitted later than 15min after the talks have started. As always, we're actively looking for more speakers - both '30 minutes long-form', and lightning talks. For the lightning talks, we welcome folks to come and talk about something cool they've done with keras, PyTorch, JAX and/or Deep Learning for 5-10mins (so, if you have slides, then #max=10). We believe that the key ingredient for the success of a Lightning Talk is simply the cool/interesting factor. It doesn't matter whether you're an expert or an enthusiastic beginner: Given the responses we have had to previous talks, we're sure there are lots of people who would love to hear what you've been playing with. If you're interested in talking, please just introduce yourself to Martin at one of the events.

We don't really drink, just feel like going to a drinking place :D
Hey :) Ever feel like going somewhere with a nice vibe… but not really in the mood to drink or do anything wild? This is just a simple, easy meetup with no pressure, no expectations from anyone. Just a group of people coming together to sit, chat, laugh a little, and enjoy being around others. You don’t have to drink. You don’t have to impress anyone. You don’t even have to be super talkative. Just come as you are. Come if you feel like: - Getting out of the house but keeping things low-key - Talking about life, random thoughts, or nothing at all - Just sitting somewhere nice and feeling a bit more human *Important note: - This is a simple and casual arrangement to hang out randomly. - Pay for your own food and drinks. - We will walk in with no reservations so we will play by the ear to find seats. - Do not expect specific arrangements on seating and grouping. - The venue might not be the best condition for deep, proper nor meaningful conversations.
