Doubles Volleyball - Competitive BB/A
Doubles Volleyball - Competitive BB/A
Let's get together to play some competitive coed doubles volleyball. **COST**: FREE **Court Type**: Outdoor grass **Minimum Skill Requirements**: Solid BB (click [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PojSi4qdlRsv1msCHhvpQ43iDc4FfzQwpWCc3kafVMY/mobilebasic) for details) Attention: 1. This event is **not always on a first come, first served basis**. [Good doubles partner](https://docs.google.com/document/d/14weEw-P52XKx0P8K2l-ZOFtYU61wmfdkSkopbG5avro/) and those who can bring a net and ball, may get priority over others on the waitlist. 2. Since skill levels are **self-reported**, some attendees may not meet the expected level in reality, so we encourage you to choose a partner you can enjoy the game with, and since this is a competitive event, it is okay if you make a strong team and win all the games. 3. Each person must help set up and take down one net, leaving some nets unset for latecomers. **Smiley Social documents:** 1. Tuesday Night Skate (TNS)
Tuesday Night Skate (TNS)
*Back on March 31 * Hi everyone! Tuesday Night Skates are in full effect! Meet every Tuesday outside of the NOMA-Galladudet U Station at the North entrance (1305 2nd St NE). We will head out at 7pm sharp for an 8 mile skate followed by pizza! We'll skate up the Metropolitan Branch Trail to the Ft. Totten Metro station and back down the trail to M St NE for pizza at Andy's. See ya there! This skate is led by Naroa, Ryan, and myself. 🛼 This ride is BEGINNER FRIENDLY! While the full ride is 8 miles long, you have the option to tap out at one of the three red line metro stations along the route in both directions. You'll also have an opportunity to learn new skills and practice drills with the skate leaders at our regroupping spots along the route. The tap out points are as follows: 2 miles: Rhode Island Ave Metro 2.5 miles: Brookland Metro 4 miles: Ft Totten Metro 6 miles: Brookland Metro (on the way back) 7 miles: Rhode Island Ave Metro (on the way back) 8 miles: Andy's Pizza This is a great way to test and build up your endurance while skating! At least one of the skate leaders will skate at your pace, so you'll never be left behind. Join us at Andy's Pizza afterwards for a FREE slice of pizza with the purchase of any alcoholic beverage or N/A lemonade! Route Map: https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7752153 If we need to cancel one week due to weather or other reasons, we'll update the event page in advance.
Fairland Intermediate Ride (Parking @ The Ice House)
Fairland Intermediate Ride (Parking @ The Ice House)
Come join us for a 11-12 mile ride at a Fairland. We normally average 9-10mph. This is now a night ride and lights are required. Wheels rolling at 6pm unless someone texts me they're running a little late. We normally do 10-12 miles, and average 10mph. This ride is more for faster than average riders due to the pace. We wait up at intersections to let all riders catch up. If you have a good amount of rides under your belt and can average 8mph or better on singletrack trails, and take small brakes, then you will probably will be able to hang but it will be a challenge. About Fairland: 90% non-technical ride with few major climbs and no mandatory obstacles (they all have ride-arounds). Promise, no rocks. None! (there is one section of busted-up concrete, but it's not rocks, and it's only 10-15 feet long). Anyway, there are a couple good places to stop and practice log-overs, and balance on the boardwalks, and some good flow trails. We will visit the skills pit but be advised, there are drops, jumps, skinnies, and overall technical features that will require the appropriate experience. Always take caution and know your technical ability limits. Video of our ride at Fairland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1-b0EDVb08 What to bring: Plenty of water, helmet (no helmet no ride), your mtb of course!, multi-tool (although you can borrow mine), patch kit, extra tube (make sure it has the same valve you need for your wheel), a snack if you're doing both loops. Here at MVD MTB'ers meetup page, we always appreciate any feedback, write a group review!( Here (http://www.meetup.com/MVDMountainBikers/about/comments/?op=all)

Beautiful Evening to Hike-Gorman Stream Valley Park
Beautiful Evening to Hike-Gorman Stream Valley Park
Looks like Tuesday will be the only summer-like day this week with no chance of rain. I didn't get to join the midweek hike at this spot earlier in the month, so we're doing it again! We'll meet at the trail head to Gorman Stream Valley Park which is just south of the intersection of Old Columbia Road and the Middle Patuxent River. We'll start promptly at 5:30 and turn around after about 40 minutes so we're back well before sunset. Hiking boots are a good idea since some parts of the trail near the river get muddy. Meet in the dirt parking lot at the trail head which is just south of where the road crosses over the water. If there is no parking in the lot, you can park across the street along the road and cross carefully.

Quad Roll: Teahouse & Sakura Skate
Join us for our Spring Quad Rollout featuring a quintessential DC experience with a route designed for Quad and beginner inline skaters! The highlight of this route is the roll through East Potomac Park and 4 miles of thousands of blooming Yoshino 桜 cherry trees at peak blossom. Good format for beginners to street skating: not too many hills, and more good pavement than bad, 7 miles total. We will start at World War I Memorial, hit the 15th street bikeway, roll through the Moongate Garden, climb the stairs to take in the vista at L'Enfant, Hains Point cherry tree loop, regroup at the circle at Maryland Avenue Park. Then the skate ends at a tea house: Teaism! Dress in theme: blossoms or pink. Route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com?r=7570647 We will reschedule if the ground is not dry. Inclusive event - Beginner pace and all skaters are welcome and encouraged to roll with us. (quad, inline, longboard, & bikes too) Safety: Helmet and Pads recommended RSVP here or on Facebook: [https://www.facebook.com/events/1244783087184612/](https://www.facebook.com/events/1244783087184612/)

Friday Night Fitness Skate
Friday Night Fitness Skate
Join us for the Friday Night Fitness Skate! A 12 or 8 mile fitness skate that skates the same route each week so you will know the route and pavement hazards (since it is dark) and be able to work on form, endurance or speed as the cold wind is pushing against you! ;) The route has nice long stretches of uninterrupted skating, open roads with very few cars and the regroups are short and infrequent. We will meet at Freedom Plaza at 7pm as long as it is not raining, snowing and the pavement is not wet or icy. We’ll warm up with a skate to the Capital and then skate along the mall and museums to the National Monument. We will then head to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial. From the Lincoln we will proceed to Haynes Point down Ohio Drive with the option to take the 3 mile Haynes Point loop (12 mile total skate) or practice stops or stunts at the regroup spot while others skate the loop (8.5 mile total skate.) The skate is mostly flat on good pavement with a small slope coming down from the Washington Monument and a 40 yard small slop from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive and a couple patches here and there. The wind can be very strong and cold especially on Ohio Drive and Haynes Point as we skate adjacent to the water. Please feel free to jazz up your gear with lights, I wear a helmet bike light (since it is pretty dark) and a set of body lights. Most of the regulars skate with lighted wheels for fun! Wear your lights so you have fun, can see and be seen! In case of bad weather, I will update this post via the comment section around 6pm on Friday. Of course, all skating is at your own risk. Hope you will come join us!
