Friday Night Skate
Bring your lights for the “Friday Night” Skate!
**Join us for the Friday Night Skate!** See the monuments of DC all lit up at night!
We will meet at the National World War I Memorial “Pershing Park” at 7pm. We’ll warm up with a nice easy skate to the Capital and skate along the mall and museums to the National Monument. We will then head to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial.
Those interested in just a 5.5 mile skate can backtrack to Pershing Park.
The group will then proceed from the Lincoln to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive with the option to take the 3 mile loop (12 mile total skate) or sit by the water and enjoy the crisp air (8.5 mile total skate.)
There are three options to loop back to the Pershing Park WWI Memorial and our path back will depend on the preferences / skill of the group.
The skate is mostly flat on good pavement with a small slope coming down from the Washington Monument and a 40 yard small slop from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive. If skaters are more advanced we will cross the 14th St bridge, enjoy a few up and down hills and finish with a downhill through the 12th St. tunnel.
Please feel free to jazz it up with lights, I wear a helmet bike light, a fun set of lights and lighted wheels! Wear your lights so you have fun, can see and be seen!
In case of bad weather, I will cancel the skate by 6pm on this post.
**Of course, all skating is at your own risk.**

**The Ride : Detail**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
Are you slightly "bird curious" but afraid to admit it? This started as a joke around the camp fire, but why not actually go ride our bikes and do a little "birding"?
We will ride our bikes from Shirlington to the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve (15 miles round trip) ... but once at the Preserve we will lock up our bikes at the Dyke Marsh Trail head then walk 1.5 miles (round trip) to go listen to the birds "Dawn Chorus". Bring binoculars if you own them if you want to "see" any birds too.
OPTIONAL: Load the Merlin Bird app on your phone.

**Ride Level Chart**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
NoVA CBG tries to accommodate all levels of cyclists by offering different types/levels of rides. We just ask that you come to the ride that suits your current riding ability the best.
* Introductory Level: If you haven't ridden a bike in a number of years (or are uncertain of your abilities on a bicycle).
* Beginner Level: You can ride for 10+ miles at a pace of 10+ to 12+ mph with potentially minor hills involved.
* Medium Level: You can ride for 20+ miles at a pace of 13+ to 15+ mph with potentially moderate hills involved.
* Advanced Level: You can ride for 20++ miles at a pace of 15+ mph with potentially major hills involved.
Both Medium and Advanced Levels might require handling various challenges such as reading cue sheets, using a Garmin or navigation app, night riding, out of town travel, or any other odd cycling situations.

**The Fine Print:**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
An RSVP of 'YES' is your digital signature and means you have read and understood [MEETUP.com's:](http://meetup.com's/)
* "Terms of Service : Section 6. Release" found at [https://www.meetup.com/terms/](https://www.meetup.com/terms/)
* NOVA-CBG's "Assumption of Risk Agreement" found @ [https://www.meetup.com/novacbg/pages/1942951/NOVA-CBG_Waiver/](https://www.meetup.com/novacbg/pages/1942951/NOVA-CBG_Waiver/)
* NoVA CBG's "COVID Policy" found @ [http://bit.ly/2021_NoVACBG_COVID19_POLICY](http://bit.ly/2021_NoVACBG_COVID19_POLICY)
Helmets are required to participate in all NOVA-CBG rides. All riders ride at their own risk and with the understanding that cycling is an inherently dangerous activity. When coming to the meetup you do so voluntarily and are ready and able to participate in the ride as described under the conditions of the day. Be on time for the "pre-ride" preparation. If you do not attend the pre-ride preparation you will not be allowed to participate on the ride. There are NO exceptions to the above.
Arlington to Herndon on the W&OD with E-bike Lovers
[https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43436538](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43436538)
33 miles. Toilets at beginning, middle, and along the way. Lunch in Herndon at approx. 16 miles.
Join us for a leisurely ride along the W&OD trail, one of northern Virginia's best bike routes. This is a regularly repeated ride because it’s easy. Parking is good, there are rest rooms, the path is not usually crowded, and it’s mostly flat and mostly paved. It is longish, but requires very little navigation.
Our lunch break is near The Herndon Caboose which is located in the
historic Town of Herndon, a small town that embraces its railroad past. Check out the Green Lizard Cycling & Coffee shop, or grab something at the bakery in town.
We meet at 10:00 and leave at 10:15 from the south Bluemont Parking lot, The address listed above (which is the address of the house nearby) will get you to us. It’s just a minute after you cross route 50.
This ride is about 33 miles but it’s mostly straight so you can turn around at any time and find your way back. If you would like to extend the ride, you can keep going past Herndon. Or ride past the return spot in Arlington to pick up one of the other bike paths that connect nearby.
**NOTE : Please be careful on the road crossings since there are several small ones and a few busier ones. Gallows Road, for example, can be busy, but it does have a traffic light to help you cross.**
Bring plenty of water! Bring snacks or grab something on the ride in Herndon. Someone will stay with the bikes.
Pump your tires, charge your battery, and check your brakes before the ride. Consider carrying a spare tube.
**THINGS TO KNOW:**
The group stops a few times (certainly before tricky turns) for slower riders to catch up.
We maintain polite bike path etiquette and are respectful of others using the path.
As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome.
For the E-Bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-Bike lovers spread the word, and let’s have fun!

Short North Street Skate | Weekly Rollout
Short North Street Skates return Saturday, April 4 and we’re excited to get back rolling together.

9:30 AM meet
10:00 AM rollout
All wheels welcome
We’ll be skating through the Short North and surrounding areas at a steady, social pace. Routes will use a mix of streets and bike lanes, so comfort navigating the city is helpful, but you don’t need to be an expert.
