Meet in front of Copper Canyon by the benches.
We'll do anywhere from 3-5 laps. It's .75 miles around and we usually do 3/4 laps. For safety reasons, we’re going to keep the group to two small groups of eight members each. Sometimes it get crowded there so we don’t want to have any mishaps. 
Afterwards, if we like the group will decide where to grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants at the RIO. If you happen to be late, walk, counterclockwise around the lake and you should see us walking

Climbers of all skill levels are welcome! To join us: 1. Complete the [participant agreement](https://movementgyms.com/participant-agreement/). 2. Pass the belay check, which can be done the same day. See [FAQs](https://movementgyms.com/first-visit/#faqs) for more info. 3. Pay for [gym membership or day pass](https://movementgyms.com/memberships-passes/). The event itself is run by volunteer organizers free of charge. If you are interested but have never belayed before, please take the [Introduction to Rope Climbing](https://movementgyms.com/rockville/calendar/#activity=climbing&location=rockville&class-type=intro-series&area-of-focus=safety-and-belaying) class first. We'd love to climb with you as soon as you know how to belay safely using a GriGri. To find us, go past the front desk and turn left. We'll gather by the fitness room entrance. If you need a refresher on knot tying and/or belaying, please post in comments or message the host and we'll be happy to help. We normally top rope in groups of 2-3 people, but some are also happy to lead. Post in comments or ask on the spot if you are interested in leading.

**Greetings Empty-Nester Ladies!** Let's meet at the Annapolis Rock Trailhead for a 5.1 mile (800 ft elevation gain) hike to Annapolis Rock. This is considered a moderate, out-and-back trail with great views along the way. The estimated time of the adventure is 2.5-3 hours. If you are a woman, looking to hike with other women in the same "empty-nesting" season of life, this outing might be for you. Whether a versed outdoor women or hoping to identify as an outdoorsy woman this year, come join us! We will meet at the Annapolis Rock Trailhead in the Appalachian Trail parking area, directly off Rt-40 near Myersville, MD (near the 11275 block). Be mindful to park in designated area, as police have been known to ticket illegally parked cars. The parking area is small; If full, there is paid parking at the Greenbriar State Park entrance, west on Rt-40. We **WILL** hike in the cold weather, but refer to this post for any possible weather cancellations before you head out. Both memoir and journalistic investigation, this book explores how the Kingsolver family took on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally -produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production. BYO... well, lots of stuff. Our goal for this park visit is to relax. We'll perch along the banks of where the Dan and Staunton rivers meet, and enjoy our picnic dinners and sip warm drinks as we watch the sunset over the water, and then light fade into darkness. Then we'll spend some time sitting back and studying the night sky. There's so much more going on out there than we realize day to day. As a certified Dark Sky location, on a clear night, I'm told you can see the Milky Way. Bring: Blanket/chair, warm drinks, dinner/snacks, a telescope, binoculars, astronomy apps, star maps and a sense of wonder.
