The Three Days: Easter Vigil
The Easter Vigil is the churchâs oldest and most powerful Easter celebrationâthe night where we move from **darkness to light**, from **death to life**, and from **silence to joy**. We begin outside (weather permitting) with **new fire**, listen to the big story of Godâs saving love through Scripture, renew baptismal promises, and finally sing the **first âAlleluia!â** of Easter.
And when the service ends, the celebration keeps going: **stay for Easter Midnight Brunch**âa warm, festive (and very human) way to welcome Easter together.
### What to expect
A longer service than usual (and worth it): candlelight, readings, music, prayer, and a joyful turn into Easter. You can participate fully, participate quietly, or simply observeâthen come share food and conversation after.
### Tonight includes
* **Service of Light** â **new fire** (a big fire in front of the church), the Paschal candle, and candlelit procession into the dark church
* **The Great Story (Readings)** â a sweeping set of Scripture readings tracing Godâs faithfulness (creation, deliverance, promise, hope)
* **Baptismal Thanksgiving / Renewal of Baptism** â water, promises, and the reminder that Easter begins at the font
* **First Alleluia** â the return of âAlleluia!â after Lent, and the proclamation of the resurrection
* **Holy Communion** â bread and wine at Jesusâ table as Easter begins
* **Easter Midnight Brunch** â good food and drink, treats, and a chance to celebrate and connect
### Explicit welcome
**All people are welcomeâno exceptions.**
That includes ALL people, skeptics, seekers, exhausted Christians, first-timers, English speakers and non-native speakers, families with kids, and anyone who just needs a place where hope is practiced out loud.
### Good to know
* This service is **candlelit**âkids are welcome (and wiggly is okay).
* If we begin outside, dress for the weather.
* Youâre always free to step out for a breather.
* Photos/recording: not during the service.
If youâve never experienced the Vigil, this is the night that makes Easter make senseâand brunch is the cherry on top.

## ## **Ăberall kleine Farbtupfer- der FrĂźhling begrĂźĂt uns.**
***Little splashes of colour everywhere â spring is here.***
Wir sitzen wieder drauĂen. Alles fĂźhlt sich luftiger an.
**Was machen wir an Ostern?** *What shall we do at Easter?*
Vielleicht habt Ihr Lust die Aufbruchstimmung, die in der Lust liegt, aufs Papier zu bringen. *Perhaps youâd like to capture that sense of new beginnings, which lies in the joy of creation, on paper.*
Da bei mir nicht gegenständlich gemalt wird, fällt es super leicht zu starten und sich den Farben und dir anzuvertrauen.
*As we donât paint from life, itâs intuitive painting and incredibly easy to get started* !

Love: Past, Present, and Future â From Biology to the Heart
**Love: Past, Present, and Future â From Biology to the Heart**
Love is one of the most intimate and transformative experiences of being alive. It can bring joy or heartbreak, clarity or confusion, fleeting moments or lifelong bonds. While deeply personal, love is also universalâwoven into our biology, reflected in human culture, mirrored in the animal kingdom, and explored through spiritual and moral traditions.
At its core, love is biological. Our brains are wired for connection: dopamine sparks desire, oxytocin fosters attachment. These chemical signals guide attraction, bonding, and social cohesion. Yet love is far more than biology.
Across spiritual traditions, love is celebrated as sacred and transformative, guiding behavior, inspiring compassion, and creating meaning beyond the self. Devotion, care, and empathy show how love can connect individuals, communities, and the wider world.
Love is not unique to humans. Animals form bonds, care for their young, and display loyalty and attachment. From swans that mate for life to nurturing communities of elephants and dolphins, the natural world reminds us that connection is both instinctive and profound.
In modern times, love is evolving. Romantic partnerships, friendships, and self-love are increasingly shaped by digital technology, social change, and global mobility. Love today can cross continents in an instant, flourish in virtual spaces, or challenge traditional normsâemphasizing choice, equality, emotional fulfillment, and authenticity.
Looking ahead, love may take forms we can barely imagine. Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and bioengineering could reshape intimacy, attachment, and connection.
Future relationships might include AI companions, hybrid human-digital bonds, or entirely new ways of caring for othersâprompting us to rethink what it means to love.
This session will explore love as a phenomenon that spans biology, psychology, society, spirituality, the animal kingdom, and emerging futures. We will reflect on how love is felt, expressed, and understoodâpersonally and collectivelyâand how it shapes identity, behavior, and meaning in life.
**We will focus on:**
* Cultural, historical, and spiritual perspectives on love
* The biology of attraction, bonding, and attachment
* Psychology: intimacy, emotional bonds, and human connection
* Lessons from the animal kingdom: care, loyalty, and partnership
* Modern love: technology, social change, and evolving norms
* The future of love: AI, virtual relationships, and new possibilities
* Personal dimensions: vulnerability, growth, heartbreak, and self-love
* Expanding who can love freely and how we practice love today
Join us for an intimate and reflective conversation on loveâin all its forms, from brain chemistry to spiritual and moral traditions, from animal bonds to digital possibilities. Together, weâll explore how love shapes life today and what it might become tomorrow.

Easter Brunch Together â¤ď¸đ°
I am thinking of those of us who are away from home and family during the holiday season. I'm in the same position. I can't have us celebrating Easter alone so let's get together at the Easter Brunch at Nest to have our own "family time".
The Nest Brunch is always extensive and varied with vegan options.
It is 22.50 euros per head for food and drinks are extra.
Please Rsvp if you are coming and cancel the Rsvp if you are not as we need to book a table and the restaurant will be busy so there will be less flexibility than usual.
Times:
12.00 to 14.00 is the BBW Meetup.
From 14. 00 to 16.00 I will be joined by friends from a variety of backgrounds and you are welcome to stay and join us xx
Reading Shakespeare Socratically (The Merchant of Venice Acts 3, 4, & 5)
New members are always welcome. It's ok to have missed any or all of the sessions involving other plays.
Current Reading: **The Merchant of Venice Acts 3, 4, & 5**
Completed Plays: Julius Caesar, The Winter's Tale
GUIDELINES:
***Participants should complete the reading before each session. It's no problem not to have understood everything, but without some familiarity with the text prior to meeting it will be difficult to have a conversation.***
***Also, it's not necessary that English be your first language in order to join, but your command and understanding of English should be that you're able to participate confidently in discussions about ideas, feelings, and abstract things.***
**"Reading Shakespeare Socratically?"** \-\- This means we'll put questions to the text and try to make it speak\, as though it is a living person and we are its interlocutor\. We'll ask it questions about what the text has said and then try to find answers\. Mostly\, this just means having a discussion amongst ourselves but there are a few guidelines that\, in my experience\, have proven immensely helpful to having a substantial conversation:
**#1** Avoid Outside Sources; interpretations you read on the internet about what the play really means, academic papers/lectures (unless they are your own), personal stories/anecdotes, biographically-driven analysis of the text, interpolations about Shakespeare's personality, facts about Shakespeare's life., etc.
**#2** Try to ground what you say in the text -- it's not necessary to quote something every time you speak, but referencing passages, etc. will create great conversation.
**#3** Be conscious of your own speaking time. If there are 10 people and 120 minutes of event time, then people have roughly 12 minutes each to speak. Nobody will keep track, but it' a good reference point to keep in mind.
We also strive to practice [the principle of charity when considering another's point of view.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_charity)
**My Role/About Me:** I will moderate the discussion and begin each session by asking an opening question that should serve as a point-of-entry into the text. I don't posit myself as an expert or authority. Nor do I claim to have the "right" answers, but I do have a lot of experience participating in such discussions and a solid background in reading Shakespeare.
This is a free event.
Christian Singles' Meetup

Evening of Meditation - The key to experiencing interconnectedness with nature
We are inviting you to our next Evening of Meditation on **Sunday, the 5th of April**. These gatherings are not just about meditating on your own, but a step inward that we take together regarding a particular topic. This time we explore **The key to experiencing our interconnectedness with nature**.
Most of us live in cities, spending our days in front of screens or in closed environments, and only occasionally take a walk in a park or go on a hike. Our experience of nature is often limited to a little time off to "recharge our batteries," when in fact, a deeper connection with nature can open up so much more within us. Letâs discover The key to experiencing our interconnectedness with nature.

Silent Reading Club
Ditch the old book club, where everyone has to read the same book...this is better!
It works like this: Bring your own book. Come chat, have some tea or coffee, get to know your neighbors. Then we quietly read together, side by side, for about one hour, each one reading their own book, and afterwards we talk with each other about what we are reading.
The usual agenda:
- Arrival and introduction (~20 minutes)
- â Silent reading (~1 hour)
- â Discussion (~30-40 minutes)
- â Join us for a bite at a local restaurant afterwards, if you like!
You may read in any language, you may read any book. We are a group of international residents of Berlin from many different countries, of all ages, and we converse in English. We welcome you!
No registration needed â the event is donation based. All funds support the Offenes Wohnzimmer.

For Instinct #20, Ahmed El Gendy ***I feel you like the moon feels the earth***, a 20-minute performance (spoken in English) that traces a memory of proximity, silence, and the charged tenderness of being led.
The work starts from a simple confessionââI did not want to sleep upstairs because it was cold, and I did not dare to sleep next to him.ââand opens into a recounting of a 24-hour encounter with a stranger in Amsterdam, lived without words.
**I feel you like the moon feels the earth**

âI did not want to sleep upstairs because it was cold, and I did not dare to sleep next to him.â
As the audience pass me from hand to hand, I recount my memory of a long encounter with a stranger in Amsterdam. I spent 24 hours in silence with him, allowing him to lead the day, at his home and outside, while I quietly followed.

Raising Conscious Kids â A Unity Family Experience
At Unity of Columbus, our Youth and Family Ministry nurtures the spiritual growth of children and families through love, joy, and practical spiritual teachings. Each Sunday, children explore timeless spiritual principles through stories, creative activities, music, and group sharing in a safe and welcoming environment.
Our program encourages children to discover their own inner light, express kindness, and develop a personal connection with God. Together, we celebrate diversity, cultivate understanding, and inspire each child to live with purpose and compassion. Parents and families are invited to join in this uplifting journey of learning, laughter, and spiritual connection.
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
