Good Friday is the raw heart of Holy Week: we gather in reverence and simplicity to hear the story of Jesus’ passion, to pray for the world, and to stand at the cross without rushing to Easter. This is **old-school worship**—Scripture, hymns, solemn prayers, a stripped-down sanctuary, and long, honest silence. We leave quietly. ### What to expect A contemplative service centered on the **Passion narrative** and the cross. You don’t need church experience. You won’t be singled out. You can participate fully, participate quietly, or simply sit and listen. ### Tonight includes * **The Passion of Jesus** — the Scripture story of Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion, and death * **Solemn Reproaches** — an ancient, haunting litany that names the world’s betrayal and God’s faithful love, with sung/spoken responses * **Solemn prayers for the world** — intercessions for the church, nations, the suffering, and all in need * **Veneration of the Cross** — an optional moment to come forward and reverence the cross (touch, bow, light a candle, or simply pause—your choice) * **Silence and departure** — we end without announcements, without applause, without a “wrap-up” ### Explicit welcome **All people are welcome—no exceptions.** That ALL people, doubters, the burned-out, the curious, longtime Christians, first-time visitors, English speakers and non-native speakers, families with kids, and anyone carrying grief or questions. ### Good to know * The **cross veneration** is **optional**—no pressure, no spotlight. * Dress however you like. * This service can be emotionally heavy; if you need to step out for a moment, that’s completely okay. * Photos/recording: not during the service. Ditch the old book club, where everyone has to read the same book...this is better! It works like this: Bring your own book. Come chat, have some tea or coffee, get to know your neighbors. Then we quietly read together, side by side, for about one hour, each one reading their own book, and afterwards we talk with each other about what we are reading.
