🌸 Chaque mardi, nous organisons une soirée durant laquelle nous pratiquons la méditation nommée Shamatha-Vipashyana, que beaucoup connaissent aujourd’hui sous le nom de Mindfulness. Everybody's welcome to join us in a chill intimate atmosphere, sitting around the tables with pizzas and drinks. It's kinda like singing in your living room (or listening to live music there), but in a mic and surrounded by 30-40 people :) Everybody who wants to sing is welcome to perform one song on the first round, and 1 song on the second round depending on the time the first round finishes (usually first round ends at around 11.30 - 12). Sometimes, there's even a third round, but that's rare. No need to register before the event or even during, you're potentially registered at the moment you enter the room and can sing at the end of the round that you entered the circle. This is mostly an open mic and with some jamming around it, meaning that solo instruments can join in if the singer is comfortable with that (most of them are, but not always, so it's not guaranteed), so we often have some solo guitars, and more rarely some sax, cello, violin, etc. Percusions aren't allowed anymore unfortunately due to neighboors complaints. People can either perform by themselves or sing along with others, or meet some guitar players or singers who could play / sing with them. If you can only sing but not play, try coming with someone who can play for you as Im never sure who will come and what they can or want to play (guitar players are here for fun, it's not guaranted they'll want to play what you want to sing, or even know the song at all). You can also just take the time to meet some musicans there and ask them if they know the songs you'd like to play cuz it's also a perfect atmosphere for musical experiments without any pressure and to meet a whole community of live music lovers. Or you can also just improvise, which is usually the easiest thing to do actually. Of course, non musicians / singers can also just come and enjoy the atmosphere and music and meet the community. As I've been running those events for quite a while now and post them on Meetup and Couchsurfing, the crowd is a nice mix between expats, travellers and locals. Au niveau des nationalités, c'est aussi un mélange de locaux, d'expats ou de voyageurs de passage. Il s'agit en priorité d'un open mic où l'on encourage certains instruments (guitares / sax / violon / violoncelle, etc) à faire des solos si le/la chanteur/se le veut, ce qui est le cas pour la grande majorité des gens. Les percussions sont par contre interdites à cause des plaintes des voisins. The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives. We’re starting Tuesday with **Two for Tuesdays**: a casual **social walk** designed to get people off the couch, **out of the house,** and actually doing something. This is a relaxed group walk at a **social pace,** covering roughly **2–3 miles**. Nothing intense. No pressure. Just good conversation, a little movement, and a **better way to spend your Tuesday** than sitting at home **scrolling your phone.** Then **after the walk,** we roll right into the **comedy the last show ever at fives on high (the bar is closing)** This is what makes the night better: you don’t just show up for one event, awkwardly stand around, then leave. You actually get time to **meet people,** loosen up, and **feel part of something** before the comedy even starts. Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
