Stoney Writers Group
The goal of this group is simple: to support and encourage each other to write more (myself included).
I love writing short stories, but too often life gets in the way and I find excuses not to do it. This monthly group gathers together on the last Tuesday of every month in the lovely *Third Space* cafe in Smithfield to share and get feedback on our work.
Weāll each get the chance to share an extract from a piece weāve written, read it aloud and get feedback (in a nice quiet creative space). Any form of writing is great ā whether screenwriting, poetry, flash fiction or something else.
We pride ourselves in promoting a really friendly, safe space to share freely, but if youād prefer to listen for the first while, thatās cool too.
If you fancy coming along:
* RSVP to an event
* Come along to a session
* Get added to our WhatsApp group once you're there
* Add a copy of your piece to our shared drive (so we can follow along as you read)
* You'll get 4 mins to read your work, and 4 mins of feedback
We have lots of regulars but always love welcoming new people, perspectives and writing, so do feel free to come along and I hope you enjoy it!

The latest & greatest C++ features talk : Jason Turner
Hello Everyone,
**Please Note: The meeting has changed its start time from 19:00 to 20:00 due to an overbooking at the venue. The talk will go on until 22:00. If anyone has a suggestion for a bar nearby, then maybe people can meet there beforehand.**
For this meetup, we are happy to welcome Jason Turner, who will be visiting Ireland at that time. Very generously, Jason will take this opportunity to talk to us about a C++ topic of his choosing on the day.
Jason needs no introduction. If you are into C++, chances are you have encountered his work as the host of the Weekly C++ video series and the CppCast, his "C++ Best Practices" repository, or any of his other projects and contributions to the community.
All of which can be found on his website https://articles.emptycrate.com/about.html
The great folks at Anseo are graciously letting us use their upstairs room again. You are all very welcome !
See you then.

The Whiteheaded Boy (Abbey Theatre)
Plan to have a pre-show drink at the Abbey Theatre bar from 6.45, if anyone feels like joining.
Please buy your own ticket here: [https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ ](https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ )
About the play:
A top-of-the-shelf comedy ā one of the sharpest in the Abbeyās history" The Sunday Independent
**āEvery Mammy has her favouriteā¦ā**
The table is set for Denis, arriving home from Dublin where heās studying Medicine at Trinity College ā a source of enormous pride for his besotted mother and of great resentment to his five other siblings.
But when word comes that he may have failed his exams *again*, the final straw breaks. Threats of deportation, lawsuits, bribes and counter-bribes escalate, as the family twist the fate of their whiteheaded boy to suit themselves.
A smash hit when it premiered at the Abbey Theatre 110 years ago, Lennox Robinsonās **The Whiteheaded Boy** is a raucous, high-stakes tug-of-war between those who will do anything to keep their standing in the town and those who just want to live their lives as they please.
Award-winning director **Annie Ryan** re-imagines this bawdy and bold Irish classic with a contemporary eye and a sharp feminist wink to the past. Notions abound!
You can read the former Head of Special Projects at the National Archives of Ireland, Catriona Croweās take on the play and its modern relevance [here](https://www.rte.ie/culture/2026/0615/1577953-the-whiteheaded-boy-how-a-110-year-old-play-speaks-to-today/).
The Assistant Costume Design role is made possible by the Abbey Theatreās partnership with the Irish Society of Performance Designers through their Assistant Designer Programme, funded by the Arts Council.
The Jam: The Circle Session āļø
**The Heart of the Circle** ā¤ļø The Circle Session is where the art breathes. It is a dedicated space for songwriters šø, poets š, comedians š¤, and storytellers š£ļø to find their ground, test their craft, and connect.
**We all sit in a circle**, removing the barrier between "performer" and "audience". It is a collaborative laboratory š§Ŗ where a new chord progression might meet a spoken-word verse, or a storyteller finds the perfect rhythm.
**Practice. Share. Connect.** ⨠This is a **safe space for all levels**. Whether you are a seasoned pro or sharing your work for the first time, you are among peers. We focus on:
* **The Craft:** A low-pressure room to test rough drafts and "work out" new material. š ļø
* **The Collaboration:** Exchange chords, ideas, and feedback to help each other grow. š¤
* **Join the Beat:** We provide **shakers** šŖ for those who want to join the rhythm and feel the vibe!
* **The Social:** We don't just stay in the room. We **organise** regular **social nights out** š» for all attendees, so the friendships made in the circle continue outside of it! šŗ
**Technical Setup** ā”ļø We provide the essentials so you can focus on the performance:
* **PA System:** 3 channels available if a plug-in is required.
* **Mics & Gear:** Microphones, cables, and a sheet stand with a light provided. š¼

Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
⢠What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! Weāve discovered that itās strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itās true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (Iāll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
⢠What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The CafƩ on Saturday!
In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation donāt just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance".
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
