Art Journaling for Wellbeing with Sai Banerjee
Art Journaling is a fun and simple way to incorporate creativity into everyday life. An art journal is a great place to experiment and try out different approaches to art without the pressure of creating a masterpiece. It is an artistic form of self-expression – instead of using words alone; you will be using various media and different art techniques to express your creativity.
In a busy world, largely driven by technology, taking time to be creative can often seem frivolous and indulgent. But studies show that creative activities encourage positivity and significantly improve our wellbeing. Art journaling is an effective way to de-stress and practice self-care. Join us for these drop-in sessions in Art journaling with Sai, an experienced teaching artist, avid art journaler and professional calligrapher.
From simple mark making to elaborate mixed media art you will learn a variety of new skills; gain confidence in your artistic ability and develop an amazing creative habit that is both enriching and nourishing. Whether you have five minutes or half an hour to spare, Art journaling will inspire you to be creative, practice self-care and reconnect with yourself.
Each week we work with different media and techniques. Sai provides some resources, however please bring an art journal and some basic supplies with you.

Vibe Coding in London: Java, AI Agents & MCP Hands-On
The **Women Coding Community (WCC)** is celebrating International Women's Week with a high-energy, hands-on Vibe Coding in London. This isn't just a presentation. It's a community coding event where we build the future of our platform together.
This is vibe-coding hours in London where we build real things together using AI tools and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). No passive watching. Just coding, experimenting, and learning from each other.
**What we'll get into:** MCP in action, connecting AI agents to real tools and data sources.
\- Exploring Claude\, JetBrains AI and GitHub Copilot/Codex in a Java workflow\,
\- Prompt skills that actually work\, how to get AI to write better code\,
\- Pair programming with AI as your co\-pilot\.
**Vibe coding**: implement things together, in real time, in person
**Who this is for:** Developers curious how MCP actually works in practice. Java learners who want to use AI tools to level up faster. Anyone who learns better by doing than watching.
Never attended our events before? No problem, this event stands completely on its own. Just bring your laptop and curiosity.
**Choose your approach:**
**The Architect:** Come with a specific Java project idea and your initial implementation. Use this time to pair program with mentors to solve bugs or add features.
**The Catalyst:** Just bring an idea! Connect with other attendees, form a team on the spot, and spend the evening coding a prototype together.
**Project Inspiration**
All ideas are centred around enhancing the WCC ecosystem. Pick a level that challenges you:
**Basic: Core Java**
* You can also pick a good first issue from [our open-source project](https://github.com/Women-Coding-Community/wcc-backend/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3Ajava%2Fspringboot%20label%3A%22good%20first%20issue%22)

* Event Attendance Tracker: Create a system to track check-ins for our meetups using the Java Date/Time API
* Coding Challenge Generator: Develop a tool that randomly selects Java exercises for members to practise
**Intermediate: Spring Boot & APIs**
* You can also pick an open issue related to spring-boot [our open-source project](https://github.com/Women-Coding-Community/wcc-backend/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3Ajava%2Fspringboot)
* WCC Job Board: Create a REST API for members to post and filter tech opportunities
* Community Blog Platform: Build a backend that supports Markdown posts and author profiles
* Skill-Tracking Dashboard: Develop a platform for members to track their learning journey and visualise progress
Mentors will be on hand throughout the evening to guide you, answer questions, and help you get unstuck.

LCC CITY DRIFTING: Greenwich, Peckham, Lambeth [SOUTH LONDON]
Welcome back ramblers, rovers, loungers and loafers!
Once again, it's time to drift. We're picking up where we left off (well, a little west of there) last month to continue our long-term unguided navigation around the whole of London. We'll stay south of the river this time and keep pushing westwards into the heartland of glorious South London, starting from Greenwich and ending up, most likely, somewhere in Lambeth, via Peckham. These are some of the liveliest, most interesting parts of the metropolis so an extended exploration is a long time coming for us! Since this is a *dérive*, I won't say much more than that.
Meet out in front of Greenwich station, serviced by the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) as well as Thameslink (which cost the same as the Tube and run from big stations such as Farringdon and King's Cross) and Southwestern rail services.
Check planned TfL disruptions here - there are some disruptions to certain routes on the DLR for March 15th, but Greenwich station will be fine and our day should be all clear for most everybody: https://content.tfl.gov.uk/planned-track-closures.pdf
A little background on our City Drifting project here:
**Now just wait a minute. What the hell is a drift ([dérive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9rive))?** A drift is any unplanned journey through the urban landscape in which participants practice a form of radical mindfulness, collectively exploring new ways of relating mentally, ideologically and materially to the "ordinary" urban environment we all think we know so well.
First theorised publicly by Situationist thinker, artist and provocateur Guy Debord in his 1956 essay *[Theory of the Dérive](https://libcom.org/article/theory-derive-guy-debord)*, drifting is a sort of *critique of ideology* done by walking, looking, and feeling. **The urban environment of London is not a neutral space:** it is packed with surveillance equipment, anti-homeless architecture, consumerist [Gruen transfers,](https://www.smartcapitalmind.com/what-is-the-gruen-transfer.htm) crowd management systems and security perimeters, among a thousand other subtle and not-so-subtle methods of population control. Moreover, our everyday relationship to the city and its pathways is conditioned deeply by our habits of movement and our habitual perceptions: our commute to work, to school, our nips down to the shops, etc. **All these routines create what Marxists call a *reified* relationship with the urban environment: through over-familiarity it becomes something seemingly natural, "just there", ordinary, unchangeable - boring.** This boredom and familiarity kills the radical imagination, without which we're fucked.
To be able to start to imagine how society could be transformed, we also need to imagine how spaces, buildings, their use, their whole purpose (and who these serve) could themselves be transformed. A necessary step in this process, according to Debord and the Situationists, is the drift. Like the 19th-century gentleman *[flâneur](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fl%C3%A2neur),* by wandering the city with an attitude of "fresh eyes", we can shake loose our ingrained sense of what London and its streets are like. **As a collective, we will work to "estrange our senses" and see the streets, buildings and people differently, as if we were encountering them for the first time.** That is to say: these aren't just random walks around London - with the right frame of mind, they will be opportunities to turn the world upside down, if only for a moment!
But don't take it from me - as Debord observed:
*"In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period **drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.** Chance is a less important factor in this activity than one might think: from a dérive point of view cities have [psychogeographical](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychogeography) contours, with constant currents, fixed points and vortexes that strongly discourage entry into or exit from certain zones."*
See you on the streets comrades, and remember, as [Raoul Vaneigem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoul_Vaneigem) once wrote: *"All space is occupied by the enemy. We are living under a permanent curfew. Not just the cops — the geometry".*

**DOES IT WORK?**
Yes! According to the New York Times, at a speed dating event, people like 2-3 out of 10 people they meet. Online daters only match with 1 in 100 or fewer of the profiles they study. This is the best way to meet new people, and it works! Just ask the thousands of people that have met at our events and had successful relationships and marriages.
**WHAT DOES IT COST?**
We put a lot of time and effort into creating the best singles events possible, so we collect a fee for our hard work. Our events are an excellent value at about $3 per introduction. Get your ticket for the best singles event in town.
**NOTE FOR NEWCOMERS:**
We post our events on various platforms. Our events often sell out, so expect plenty of fellow singles, regardless of the numbers you see here :)
So what are you waiting for?
Join us for some fun conversation with great new people... and maybe something more!

We’ll gather at 8:00AM, with discussion starting promptly at 8:15AM.
