🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️ Historic Streets, City Contrasts & A Distillery District Finish Some walks show you just how many different versions of Toronto can exist within a few kilometres. Join us for a social city walk through some of Toronto’s most layered and contrasting neighbourhoods — from the storybook streets of Cabbagetown, to the revitalized energy of Regent Park, ending in the iconic Distillery District. Cabbagetown is known for having one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in North America — quiet, tree-lined streets that feel almost frozen in time. From there, we’ll move into Regent Park, where old Toronto meets new in one of the city’s most significant redevelopments. We’ll finish in the Distillery District, once home to the largest distillery in the world, now a vibrant pedestrian area full of brick buildings, art, and atmosphere. This is not a formal historical tour. It’s a social walk with light storytelling, good energy, and lots to take in along the way. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) \*\*\* 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll meet outside the subway station and begin our walk into Cabbagetown, wandering through its charming residential streets before making our way toward Regent Park. As we move through the neighbourhood, you’ll see the blend of old and new Toronto — community spaces, modern builds, and the evolution of the area. From there, we’ll continue south toward the Distillery District, where the walk wraps up. You’re free to explore, grab a drink, or head out whenever you like. Please note: there will be some stairs along the route. \*\*\* 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical April weather — which means anything from sun to light rain. As long as it’s not extreme conditions or heavy downpour, we’ll be going ahead. Be prepared and dress accordingly. Comfortable shoes are important, and layers are always a good idea. Also — this is NOT a guided or formal historical tour. I’ll share context casually, but the focus is on being social and enjoying the walk. \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: Outside the subway station 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll begin promptly, so please plan ahead. End Point: Distillery District \*\*\* 🎟️ Meetup Fee: $5 cash in person or e-transfer to 📧 \*\*[mathewmaclean@hotmail.com**](http://mathewmaclean@hotmail.com%2A%2A/) This helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 \*\*\* 🎒 What to Bring Water Good walking shoes A small snack Weather-appropriate clothing (rain-ready if needed ☔) Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited. \*\*\* 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant gatherings There’s always something happening. \*\*\* REMEMBER: You’re welcome to just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. And as always, sometimes plans shift and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. \*\*\* 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 [torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com](mailto:torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com) Come for the history. Stay for the contrasts. \*\***The Toronto History Walks Explorer Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** The story of historic Little India is a true Toronto success story, a unique look at a neighbourhood and the people who call it home. But the story is not always a happy one. Like all other areas in Toronto, Little India started out as a purely English - Anglican area and was repeatedly changed as other immigrants opted to leave the security of the downtown core for outer areas. With the opening of the Naaz theatre in 1972, the community that became Little India started to take shape, but in Toronto the forces that developed communities were different in that part of the city sandwiched between Leslieville to the south, and Greektown to the north. With a strictly Anglo-Saxon pro-British community entrenched for over 100 years, now changing to include south Asians, the area was seen as a rather depressed area, or an area in transition, and violence was an unfortunate part of life. Racial tensions increased dramatically with the influx of south Asians. But by the 1980s and 1990s the district had found its feet, and Little India was a popular Toronto district and tourist attraction, with visitors pouring in from around the world to partake of the richness. A true cultural enclave in Toronto! A fascinating history and a fascinating community awaits! This tour has been revised a few times to add more historic information to the walk, it has been revised once again for 2026 with new landmarks and stories attached. Should be a fascinating walk! This walk is for all fitness levels. The meeting place for our walking adventure is on the southwest corner of Greenwood Avenue and Gerrard Street East! This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Latin Fest at City Hall
Latin Fest at City Hall
Hi everyone. Nathan Phillips Square is playing host to Canadian Latin Fest 2026 on Sunday, 12 April. Through music, food, dance and performance, it celebrates Canadian Latin culture, which I am sure we can all agree, is very vibrant in the city. The event starts at noon with opening remarks and some dignitary speeches. **MEET TIME:** 12:00 noon for our own opening remarks and intros. According to the schedule, the performances are (mostly) over by 3pm. **MEETING SPOT:** in the covered area between Hero Burger and the skate rental shop. **Note:** For those wanting to come a bit later, I will check back at the meeting spot after the first parade ( approx. 1 pm) According to their schedule, the first of two parades steps off at 12:40pm. (The parades are new and I believe they will be quite short and take place within the square.) Whatever your photo interests might be, I am sure there will be lots of ops, not only as part of the festival but also all around City Hall. On a side note, I anticipate putting together meetups in the future, likely during the week when the days are longer, that will offer an element of instruction. The idea is to have willing experienced photographers lead small groups of beginners or those looking to improve their photography skills and/or knowledge of their DSLR or mirrorless. For Sunday's meetup, I think everyone would want to shoot the parade(s)/performances on their own but if there are people interested/willing, they could team up for an hour of guided shooting at some point during the day. I put my name forward as someone who would be happy to lead a group. We will have more discussion about the instructional meetups on Sunday. The weather can't make up its mind. It is now looking like there could be some rain (but don't let that deter you from coming out) . I hope to see you there.
Vegetarian trek for omnivores: Liberty Village to Kensington Market (9 km)
Vegetarian trek for omnivores: Liberty Village to Kensington Market (9 km)
**Attendance policy is enforced for this hike** because it's a popular one. See below for details. This one is for the vegetarians and vegans who have been missing out on past hikes. And meat-eaters who turn their nose at the mention of vegetables. This hike will highlight restaurants that showcase vegetables in their natural glory. No vegetarian burgers or vegan cheese. After all, why eat poor imitations of meat when you can eat the real thing? Great vegetarian dishes should stand on their own. The best variety, quality, and density of vegetarian food is at downtown. Starting from hipster Liberty Village, we'll make our way to hippie Kensington Market. We'll pass by a veritable mix of Chinese, Indian, Italian, Jamaican, Lebanese, Vietnamese (and more) restaurants, each with their own take on veg food. This hike ends at an Indian-inspired vegan restaurant in Toronto. Guarantee your spot at our [companion event](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/events/313789223/). **Highlights** 1. Southwest corner of King and Atlantic (depart 10:45am) 2. Thindi Cafe 3. Garrison Common 4. Simit and Chai 5. The Roasted Nut 6. Roti Mahal 7. Waterworks Food Hall (depart 12pm, centre south exit) 8. Victoria Memorial Square 9. Annalakshmi 10. Bestco Fresh Foods 11. Georgian House 12. Aux Merveilleux de Fred 13. Toronto City Hall (depart 1pm) 14. VegeDelight 15. Aaha Truly South 16. FIKA Cafe 17. Mochi Mochi Cafe 18. The Cottage Cheese / Hawker 19. Robert Street Cookies / Fresca (arrive 1:50pm) **Neighbourhoods** Liberty Village > West Queen West > Fashion District > Entertainment DIstrict > Chinatown > Kensington Market **Map** [https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1SioIGK9x_ux8mSzUJ6jaHoCwJV6CPEg&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1SioIGK9x_ux8mSzUJ6jaHoCwJV6CPEg&usp=sharing) **How it works** Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints. We'll browse many food places but won't linger long. See the route in advance, organize takeout, then pickup along the way. Not sure what to try? Join our vegetarian omakase for $5, which gives a tiny sample from different restaurants. Vegan option subject to demand. Payment on the day of event by cash or e-transfer to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com. No refunds after orders are placed. Details of sampled food will be uploaded after the hike. Limited cutlery provided. Highly recommended to bring cutlery and containers for omakase and bringing back leftovers. See our [About section](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/) for more info. **Attendance policy** Please check in with an organizer when you arrive. 24 hours before the hike, we'll note down who is on the confirmed list. Those that don't show up will be marked as no-show. Repeat offenders will be banned. Please change your RSVP if you can no longer attend. If you got off the waitlist less than 24 hours before the event, you won't be considered a no-show.

Lunch at Hawker (after Vegetarian trek for omnivores)
Lunch at Hawker (after Vegetarian trek for omnivores)
This is a companion event for [Vegetarian trek for omnivores](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/events/313774090). You don't have to do the hike to join this, but it's more rewarding if you do. [Hawker](https://www.hawker.to/) is perhaps the most innovative vegan restaurant in Toronto. Drawing inspiration from one of the oldest vegetarian traditions, several of their dishes fuse Indian influences with modern sensibilities. Take their biryani, for example, spiked with smoked poblano and lavender. Other dishes reflect the global experiences of the chefs. It's fine dining standards with casual prices. If there are many people on the waitlist and it's at least 5 days before the event, we may arrange another table. **Payment** * The $5 event fee is a deposit. It will be refunded when you show up. * After signing up for the event, you have 24 hours to e-transfer the fee to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com * If you're on the waitlist, you don't have to pay the deposit until a space opens up. You have 24 hours to pay the deposit after you've made it off the waitlist. * When sending the e-transfer, please add a note that mentions your meetup.com name. * If you don't pay in time, you will be removed from the attendee list. The spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist. **Cancellation and refund policy** * You can cancel and get a full refund 5 calendar days before the event. For example, if the event is on Friday 7pm, you can cancel without penalty anytime before the preceding Sunday 11:59pm. * No refunds within 5 calendar days of the event, unless someone can be found to take your place. * Full refund if the event is cancelled or rescheduled.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).

Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in! We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind. If there is an interest we can grab lunch nearby afterward.
