Pinochle: Friendly Players Only

Today's meetup is limited to 12 BB and above only players and 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 play only. Please help us keep this day limited and enjoy the open play on the other days if you or your friend are not BB or above. People make plans and travel to show up on limited days for limited play because it is limited to experienced players. Please do not show up if you are on the waitlist without checking first, or try to play 5's or 6's, with your friend that is learning how to play, or because it is not full with 12 players if you or your friend are not BB or above. We’d rather play with 9 experienced players on these limited days than open it up to beginners, friends that are learning, etc. There are other open days for that, and they are fun too.

Come out to [Third Hill Brewing Company](https://www.thirdhillbrewing.com/) and play some board games! Serving food with their variety of drinks so come and fuel up for the games. Learn about new games, play games, meet new friends, and have a good time! All ages and levels of experience/knowledge of games are welcome as long as you have a willingness to learn and/or teach your games. Host will provide some games but as always, you are welcome/encouraged to bring your own (recommended you know them and/or ready to teach them). Please be aware that there is no direct parking but there is nearby parking garages. **NTBG** is a safe environment for all to have fun. Bullying/harassment is not tolerated.

We have taken more than a year off due to the pandemic. Our old favorite cafe in Bethesda is now closed so lets try the Panera Bread down the street on Wisconsin Ave. Please come and join us for some double deck pinochle, assuming (of course) that you have been inoculated for Covid-19 and you are willing to follow the current guidelines of the business on mask wearing. We will start the first game about 6 pm. We play 300 point games so the second game will likely start just after 7 pm, and we will rotate tables if we have more than 4 players. Card players of all level are welcome. We play primarily 4-handed double deck Pinochle but other variants are have been tried on occasion. Games go from 6 pm until Panera closes, which currently is 9 pm. This event is scheduled to repeat every other Wednesday night. Please don't wait until the last minute to RSVP.

Starting Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of opposite end zone lines. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense. 2. Scoring: Each time the offense catches a pass in the defense's end zone, the offense scores a point. The teams switch direction after every goal, and the next point begins with a new pull by the team that just scored. 3. Movement of the Disc: The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count. 4. Change of Possession: When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception, stalled), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. 5. Substitutions: Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout. (Modified depending on the number of the attendees) 6. Non-contact: Players must attempt to avoid physical contact during play. Picks and screens are also prohibited. 7. Fouls: When a player initiates contact that affects the play, a foul occurs. When a foul causes a player to lose possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player that the foul was called against disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone. 8. Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. The host will also step in if it is needed. Join us for an exciting evening of fun, laughter, and learning at our Indoor Pickleball Play & Learn event! No experience? No problem! Whether you've never picked up a paddle or you're just looking to have a blast, this event is for you. All you need is a pair of non-marking sneakers (to keep the courts and your knees in tip-top shape) and a spirit ready for some social fun. If you have paddles, feel free to bring them along. Event schedule: **30-minute Introduction:** Get checked in to the facilty, learn the basics of pickleball and get ready to play! **1 Hour of Court Time:** Get on the court with 6 players per court - 4 will play while 2 observe, learn & rotate in every few minutes. **30-Minute Decompress & Social Time:** Wind down at the onsite restaurant & bar, where you can refuel, hydrate, and be social! This is all about having a good time, making friends, and enjoying the game. So come prepared to laugh, learn, and maybe even discover your new favorite sport! ## Fairway Friends Opening Round – Herndon Centennial Join us for the **first Fairway Friends – NoVA meetup round** at **Herndon Centennial Golf Course**. Fairway Friends is a relaxed golf group for **gay and bi men over 40 in Northern Virginia and the DMV** who enjoy playing golf, meeting good people, and getting outside during the week. For our opening meetup we’ll play **18 holes** and get to know each other on the course. This isn’t a golf instruction group — just a group of guys who enjoy the game and good company. All skill levels are welcome! The goal is simple: play golf, meet like-minded guys, and build a small group that enjoys getting together regularly. **Course:** Herndon Centennial Golf Course **Format:** 18 holes **Tee Time:** Around 8:30–9:00 AM (final time will be posted once we see how many are playing) If you're interested, RSVP and we’ll coordinate tee times as we get closer to the date. Some people have expressed interest in playing in Fairfax. Lets set up another game that repeats every 2 weeks at Fairfax Town Center. Look for the group with cards somewhere in the center tables. We play alomost exclusively double deck pinochle. All levels of play are welcome from beginner to expert. We will teach and coach new players.

Join us every other Wednesday for a fun evening of Euchre. We gather at the sports bar located at the front of the building. Everyone is welcome!

After having no live games for about a year, lets try playing again on a Monday night. Some of the regular players have gotten shots and I am pretty sure we can find a secluded table to play some cards. Of course masks are required. Lets try playing again at Crossroads. They serve great food and beer. They are currently only open to 10 pm, so I set the play time on this one as 6:30 to 9:30.
