The Dissident Salon - Poetry, Prose, and Provocation by Alissa Leeds
The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives.
Each week features a curated performer, followed by open mic sessions open to all. Work may be presented in English, French, or other languages. Multilingual expression is central to the space and reflects the realities of exile, displacement, and exchange that define the DISSIDENT Club.
The Salon is an ongoing forum for people who speak publicly and think critically through art. It exists to build community and support sustained creative work within the broader ecosystem of the DISSIDENT Club.
**When:** Every Tuesday, starting January 6th, 2026

Writers' On-Line Feedback Session via Zoom
This group is for anyone interested in writing in English, whether it be prose or poetry or non-fiction. We get together once a week to listen, critique and support each other in our work. Attendees bring something they have written, six copies, printed out and no longer than seven pages, which they read aloud. They then receive feedback from the rest of the group. The size of the group is limited to 6, so that everyone is able to receive a full 30 minutes of constructive feedback including reading time. If you have nothing to read but would like to come and listen, you are most welcome too. We are an anglophone group and everything is conducted in English, in fact not everyone who comes can speak French. Please bear this in mind if you sign up.

**Description de la conférence**

**Description**
“Draw me a black hole.”
This request by astrophysicist Brandon Carter to the young student Jean‑Pierre Luminet led to the first hand-drawn illustration of a Black Hole in 1979.

Today I am waiting for you to play werewolves with minimum one green garment to spend some time to drink some beers. It will be possible to grab food as pizza, snacks etc...
Every year on March 17th, it's Saint Patrick's Day: a traditional Irish celebration of worldwide popularity, commemorating the death of the patron saint of the entire island of Ireland. But why do you drink beer?
On St. Patrick's Day, parades, pubs open late for beer, and everything painted in Irish green are commonplace. All of this is part of the rich Celtic culture of leprechauns, shamrocks, bagpipes, and dancing.
By tradition, people drink beer on that day and wear at least one green garment.
The village of Thiercelieux appears normal on the surface, but every night some villagers transform into werewolves to devour others. Each morning, the villagers discover someone missing and gather to try and unmask the werewolves hiding among them
The game components consist solely of cards, each depicting a different identity on the front and the same illustration on the back

Open Mic & Jam - Every Tuesday since 2013 !
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- \(Français plus bas\) \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
This is the 12th season of the Open Mic & Jam Around The Table !
Everybody's welcome to join us in a chill intimate atmosphere, sitting around the tables with pizzas and drinks. It's kinda like singing in your living room (or listening to live music there), but in a mic and surrounded by 30-40 people :) Everybody who wants to sing is welcome to perform one song on the first round, and 1 song on the second round depending on the time the first round finishes (usually first round ends at around 11.30 - 12). Sometimes, there's even a third round, but that's rare. No need to register before the event or even during, you're potentially registered at the moment you enter the room and can sing at the end of the round that you entered the circle. This is mostly an open mic and with some jamming around it, meaning that solo instruments can join in if the singer is comfortable with that (most of them are, but not always, so it's not guaranteed), so we often have some solo guitars, and more rarely some sax, cello, violin, etc. Percusions aren't allowed anymore unfortunately due to neighboors complaints.
People can either perform by themselves or sing along with others, or meet some guitar players or singers who could play / sing with them. If you can only sing but not play, try coming with someone who can play for you as Im never sure who will come and what they can or want to play (guitar players are here for fun, it's not guaranted they'll want to play what you want to sing, or even know the song at all). You can also just take the time to meet some musicans there and ask them if they know the songs you'd like to play cuz it's also a perfect atmosphere for musical experiments without any pressure and to meet a whole community of live music lovers. Or you can also just improvise, which is usually the easiest thing to do actually.
Of course, non musicians / singers can also just come and enjoy the atmosphere and music and meet the community. As I've been running those events for quite a while now and post them on Meetup and Couchsurfing, the crowd is a nice mix between expats, travellers and locals.
So let's meet at Nul Bar ailleurs - 18 rue de Cotte, métro Ledru Rollin (lign 8)
Happy hour until 9 PM with pints of beer for 3,5 euros cocktails for 5 (then 5 & 7 € after 9 PM)
See you on tuesday(s) !
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- FRANCAIS \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
A mardi !

Poetry Reading in a Bar: Gentle Words & Deep Ideas 📖🍹✨
**Welcome to the Paris Poetry Circle!**
Now in its 30th year, our English-language poetry reading group continues to bring together lovers of verse and thought in the heart of Paris. 🎉
Join us this Wednesday evening for a gathering of minds and voices as we read and reflect on poems that move, challenge, and illuminate — all shared over some quiet drinks. 🫖☕️🥤🧉🍹
We seek poems that are clear yet profound, sweet or serious — those that carry us forward and help us make sense of the world. We steer clear of the obscure or needlessly complex; we value clarity over cleverness, sincerity over show.
Each poem is read anonymously to begin with, without revealing the author, allowing space for open, unbiased interpretation. We then explore it together — carefully, curiously — to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
After the meeting, we write a letter of thanks to the living poets we have read at the group, to thank and congratulate them. We revere all the poets of this world.
The group is small — usually six or seven thoughtful individuals, up to a maximum of ten. The conversation is warm, intelligent, and grounded. There is no performance, no pressure to contribute, and no cost. Only a shared pursuit of insight, beauty, and fellowship.
If that resonates with you, we’d love to welcome you. Bring a poem, or simply bring yourself. 📚✨

[https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1765769838119?aff=oddtdtcreator](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1765769838119?aff=oddtdtcreator)

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
• What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Sunday!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

• What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!
Libera Animae - Freeing the Soul
Main Library
Join us for a welcoming evening of reflection, gentle music, and meaningful conversation. We’ll begin with a short grounding moment, followed by a brief reading from spiritual or philosophical traditions, and an open reflection circle where participants can share (or simply listen).
Libera Animae is an interfaith community focused on inner growth, creativity, and authentic connection. This first gathering is a simple introduction to the spirit of the group and a chance to meet others seeking deeper meaning and community.
All backgrounds are welcome.
