The Dissident Salon - Poetry, Prose, and Provocation by Alissa Leeds
The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives.
Each week features a curated performer, followed by open mic sessions open to all. Work may be presented in English, French, or other languages. Multilingual expression is central to the space and reflects the realities of exile, displacement, and exchange that define the DISSIDENT Club.
The Salon is an ongoing forum for people who speak publicly and think critically through art. It exists to build community and support sustained creative work within the broader ecosystem of the DISSIDENT Club.
**When:** Every Tuesday, starting January 6th, 2026
**Sign-ups:** 8:00 PM
**Sets:** Three 45-minute sessions at 9:00 PM, 10:00 PM, and 11:00 PM
**Where:** The DISSIDENT Club, 58 rue Richer, 75009
Bring work that confronts.
We offer the microphone.
Writers' On-Line Feedback Session via Zoom
This group is for anyone interested in writing in English, whether it be prose or poetry or non-fiction. We get together once a week to listen, critique and support each other in our work. Attendees bring something they have written, six copies, printed out and no longer than seven pages, which they read aloud. They then receive feedback from the rest of the group. The size of the group is limited to 6, so that everyone is able to receive a full 30 minutes of constructive feedback including reading time. If you have nothing to read but would like to come and listen, you are most welcome too. We are an anglophone group and everything is conducted in English, in fact not everyone who comes can speak French. Please bear this in mind if you sign up.

**Description de la conférence**
🎙️**Intervenants:**
Les physiciens **Vincent Boudon**, **Arnaud Cuisset**, **Cyril Richard**1 et **Maud Rotger**

🔭 Light carries within it the signature of every material it encounters along its path. Thanks to light as a source of information, we don’t need to touch stars or planets to know their composition.
On Earth, we can also detect explosive powders or illicit substances. We can analyze the pigments in ancient paintings and uncover the techniques used by Leonardo da Vinci. Light invites us on a fascinating journey through time, space, and technology!

Full Moon Picnic Sat May 30, 8:30-10:30 PM, Pont des Arts
**Ahoy there,**
Next full moon picnic will be Saturday May 30 from 8:30 - 10:30 P.M. Moonrise will be around 10:10 P.M. Sunset around 9:40 PM.
I may not make it back from my tree house in time but never fear, Catherine and Charles will be there to welcome you.
The Pont des Arts is undergoing renovations for the botched renovation 3 years ago that used a poor design to fasten the wood planks. Most of the bridge will remain open full width during the work. We will meet by one of the benches in the open section, which is currently towards the Left Bank side of the bridge. Hard to predict how work will advance over the next week. So finding us may involve a little bit of treasure hunt adventure. You’re welcome! In the unlikely event we will assemble below on the quai on the Right Bank side.
May is known by American Indians for the Full Flower Moon because of the wide appearance of flowers during this month. It's also known as Full Corn Planting Moon (for obvious reasons) and as the Milk Moon.
Bob, I swear you're just copy pasting that from your last email for our previous Full Moon Picnic.
Yes, that’s because this is the second full moon of the same month, which only happens once in a blue moon. 🤣
**WHAT**: Everyone brings food and drink to share.
**WHERE**: Pont des Arts. We'll gather around the 2nd or 3rd bench from the Right Bank side of the bridge. Nearest metros: Pont Neuf and Louvre-Rivoli.
**WHEN**: Saturday May 30 from 8:30-10:30 P.M.
**WHY**: Share one of the most memorable sights in Paris with some of the nicest people around.
**WHO**: You and your friends.
**THEME**: Blue
**BIRTHDAYS**: Are you’re a Gemini? Bring a cake and let me know so we can celebrate your birthday this month and blow out the world’s largest birthday candle.
**HOW** to find us: Keep your eyes out for a bunch of lunatics eating, drinking an chatting in English and French.
**PUZZLER**: Raise your hand if you’re vegetarian. Vegan? Beegan?(vegan + honey. I know.) Flexitarian?(occasional meat). Vegan before 6 PM?(yes that’s actually a thing.) Forget about Omnivore. Forget about Carnivore. How about Cannibal? How about Sausage eating Cannibal? Why are you cringing? You're the product of a Sausage eating Cannibal. Don’t try to puzzle this out. Just go ahead and scroll to the answer before your stomach turns queasy.
**PUZZLER ANSWER**: Our galaxy, the Milky Way has become quite large feasting on other smaller galaxies. About 8 billion years ago, a study said, that a smaller dwarf galaxy was gobbled up by a young and hungry Milky Way. The study was not 8 billion years ago (that’s why the 2 commas) but 8 years ago. The dwarf galaxy was named Gaia Sausage because it was sorta kinda in the shape of a sausage according to the astronomers analyzing the data. They had been up for 2 days without eating and were definitely not vegan.
Turns out that just this month, the Milky Way gobbled up another galaxy, according to a study, 10 billion years ago. (I’m using commas the way Trump uses legal loopholes.) The poor meal this time is called the Loki galaxy, named after the Norse god of mischief. The remnants of this dwarf galaxy are hard to detect and tricky to explain because the left over stars are moving in opposite directions. Confusing and mischievous.
In this eat or be eaten universe galaxies are cannibalizing each other. So far the Milky Way has eaten its way to an expanding belt-line.
Ciao for niao,
**Captain Bob**

Dear all 🌼
Let’s gather to discover The Prince, a theatrical piece freely inspired by Machiavelli, blending absurd comedy with touches of tragedy 🎭
On an almost empty stage, a jester wakes up on a throne… without knowing how he got there. Amnesiac and uncertain, he embarks on an identity quest that leads him to question power, memory, and the construction of the self.
Through theatrical scenes, playful game-show elements, and musical interludes, the play explores — with irony and depth — the thin line between prince and tyrant, and what power does to human identity.

🌳 🌳 🌳

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for June is "Roadtrip"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Feel Good Friday: POWER BALLAD at the Gateway Film Center + SHAKE NO. 8!
Join us as we get together to see Paul Rudd in the latest comedy-drama-musical from John Carney, POWER BALLAD! The film follows a washed-up wedding singer, a fading boy band singer and a stolen hit song. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: Rick, a washed-up wedding singer, and Danny, a fading boy band star, bond over music and a late-night jam session. When Danny turns Rick's song into a hit, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves. Power Ballad is written/directed by John Carney, the master of the modern musical and creative mind behind Once, Begin Again and Sing Street! It stars Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas, Peter McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu and Jack Reynor.
BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film premiered to rave reviews at this year’s Dublin International Film Festival where critics call it “a sure-fired crowd-pleaser” that “just might be the feel-good hit of the year!” Others say, “Paul Rudd delivers a career-best performance in this charmer” that’s both “hilarious and deeply moving!”
SUMMER OF ICE CREAM, VOL 2: SHAKE NO. 8! Ranked the #1 Ice Cream Shop in Columbus in 2024, this is the perfect place to kick off our Summer of Ice Cream and grab a sweet treat after the show! Their menu features an array of traditional, specialty and vegan shakes, hot cocoa, and more! You can check out their full menu here: [https://www.shakeno8.com/menu.php](https://www.shakeno8.com/menu.php)
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 20 minutes before the show. Once showtime is announced, advance ticket purchase is advised! Once you have yours, please list your seat number in the Comments section of this event. We'll head to nearby Shake No. 8 immediately following the show!
Should be a fun one, Dan
