Anchors: What Remains Unchanged
*"To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognized need of the human soul." — Simone Weil*
**What is the one thing about you that has stayed the same, even as the world around you has completely changed?**
In a world full of strict routines and sudden changes, there is a constant pressure to be adaptable. We are told to adjust quickly and flow like water around obstacles. When life moves so fast, staying unbound is often praised as the ultimate way to live.
But the push for an untethered life brings its own quiet challenge. As we try to keep up with our surroundings, how do we avoid losing ourselves in the process? What is the difference between a heavy chain that holds us back, and a reliable anchor that keeps us centered in the storm?
Join us at this Curious Souls Cafe gathering to explore the balance between staying adaptable and staying grounded. We will discuss the core values we hold most dear, the daily habits that save our sanity, and how to tell the difference between healthy flexibility and losing our true selves.
Bring your stories, a reflective spirit, and an open mind. Let's discover what holds us steady, together.
**Inviting all who are...**
⚓ Exploring whether "anchors" are necessary for our well-being, or if they are just heavy baggage
🌊 Balancing the desire to be highly adaptable with the need to protect a quiet, stable core
⚖️ Reflecting on the personal truths that have survived the many phases and transitions of their lives
☕ Seeking a warm, deeply reflective space to talk about what truly matters most
🗣️ Believing that while we are always growing, there is a beautiful stillness at the center of who we are
📅 Agenda / What You'll Experience
💬 Prompted Conversations
We will use virtual question cards designed to help people thoughtfully explore the foundations of their identities. Here are some sample questions:
* Are "anchors" (like deep attachments to people, places, or routines) necessary to keep us grounded, or do they eventually just hold us back?
* How do you tell the difference between gracefully adapting to a new environment and accidentally losing yourself to it?
* Think back to who you were ten years ago. What is one core trait or belief that has remained steadily intact?
* Have you ever realized that a specific "anchor" you relied on for years was actually just keeping you stuck in place?
From there, we’ll embark on a respectful, engaging, and meaningful conversation, celebrating the diversity of perspectives and ideas within the group.
Note: This session may involve virtual question cards accessed via a link or QR code. If you do not have a device (phone/tablet) to access these, please ask a facilitator for assistance; we have spare units available. The exact format of the event may change depending on turnout according to [https://curioussouls.cafe/#how-to](https://curioussouls.cafe/#how-to) and other factors.
💬 Final Thoughts and Feedback
Where time allows, in the final 10 minutes of the event, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the key insights, memorable moments, and takeaways from our discussions. This is a chance to distill the shared wisdom and leave with a deeper understanding of the topics we’ve explored together.
After the event officially concludes, the group may choose to extend the session, depending on the group’s interest. Of course, you’re welcome to leave at any time that feels right for you.
An anonymized summary will be shared for sessions where key insights are identified. After the meeting, our facilitators and participants may reflect on the discussion and contribute to a summary or collaborative workbook based on their notes and observations. Additionally, questions may be revisited in future sessions in an anonymized manner. To explore what our events are like, check out our official website at [https://curioussouls.cafe](https://curioussouls.cafe)

Diversity
* **What it is**: The presence of people with different backgrounds, experiences, identities, and perspectives (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, culture).
* **Analogy**: A diverse team has members from different places, with different skills.
Inclusion
* **What it is**: Actively creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, supported, and empowered to participate and succeed.
* **Analogy**: In an inclusive team, everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas and is heard, not just present.

Spend an evening with HKAS and Dr. Patrick Hase
One of the most common questions we get at HK Sacred Spaces is, "How do you find so many places to visit?" There are many different answers to that question, but certainly one of them is found in my well-worn copy of the locally printed book "Market Towns of the New Territories" by Patrick HASE. This book is published in both English and Chinese and is a treasure trove of information about how the New Territories developed and how that impacts every other part of Hong Kong life. From village towns, local temples, and ancient trails, this book has it all. It's rare to have a chance to hear the author talk about his work, so I encourage all of you to come along and listen to the talk and ask questions.
Our friends host this event at the Hong Kong Anthropology Society. It is free of charge.
Resonance & Ritual: Candle-Lit Sound Journey with Tea Ceremony
*An intimate evening for deep rest, reflection, and renewal.*
**Resonance and Ritual: Sound Journey & Tea Ceremony**
Step out of the Hong Kong work rhythm and into an evening of nervous system restoration, deep presence, and gentle connection. **Resonance and Ritual** is a small-group sound journey and tea ceremony created especially for busy professionals who want to slow down without “checking out” of their lives.
We’ll begin with a candle lighting intention ritual. Then we'll gently settle into a guided sound journey using sound bowls, chimes, and other soothing instruments to help your body release tension and your mind soften out of work mode. From there, we transition into a mindful tea ceremony, inviting you to experience tea as a grounding ritual — one sip, one breath, one shared moment at a time.
This experience is ideal if you:
* Feel mentally and emotionally drained from long workdays
* Find it hard to switch off, even when you’re home
* Miss feeling present, connected, and at ease in your own body
**What’s included**
* Guided sound journey (approx. 40 minutes)
* Mindful tea ceremony with high-quality loose-leaf tea
* Mats/props provided (you may bring your own if you prefer)
* A calm, supportive space to integrate and reflect
**Event details**
* Date: Friday, 1st May
* Time: 7:00 - 8:30 PM
* Venue: Sacred Space Therapy and Wellness Studio, Cheung Sha Wan
* Capacity: Limited to 7 participants for depth and comfort
* Exchange:
* Early Bird - 375 HKD (First 3)
* Standard - 420 HKD
* Group (2+) - 390 HKD
**What to bring**
* Comfortable clothing suitable for lying down
* A light sweater or shawl
* Optional: journal and pen
Exploring the Ruins of Fat Tong Chau!
Attention all crew members and potential recruits!
Our next away mission takes us to a location where history and exploration intersect: **Fat Tong Chau (Junk Island)**. While it may no longer be a literal island, it remains a site of immense historical significance, housing the **"Fat Tau Chau Old Customs Station"**—a true relic from Earth’s past.
🖖 Mission Highlights:
* **Ancient Trade Routes:** Long before the Federation, this site was a vital "trading hub" during the Tang and Song dynasties. We will examine the fragmented stone tablet inscribed with *"Contributions from the land of Giao Chi (Vietnam) flow from afar,"* a fascinating piece of 19th-century diplomatic history.
* **Terrain Reconnaissance:** We’ll explore the perimeter of the former island, observing how 1,000 years of maritime history evolved into the modern landscape of the TKO Industrial Estate.
* **The Picard Spirit:** Like Captain Picard’s passion for archaeology, we believe that understanding our past is the key to navigating the future.
Whether you are a seasoned Trekkie, a history buff, or a new recruit looking for adventure, join us as we boldly go where many have gone before—but few have truly *seen*.

【U.S.S. Hong Kong
