SCARBOROUGH - Practical Philosophy đ¨đŚ
**đď¸ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no âofficialâ philosophy knowledge required! đ
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community đ
**đ HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, itâs important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the âofficial' start.
* 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the âjump-offâ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. Itâs not obligatory to answer them.
* 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 21:00 - The official meeting is over but itâs a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**đ§§PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a cafĂŠ, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
đ **WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY**
đŁ âI feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting whatâs right and wrongâ - Ekam
đŁ âI got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.â - Daniel
**đ¤ FAQ**
* âWhat will we talk about? What's the topic?
âThe topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you donât see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0).
* Do I need to study or read anything to attend?
No preparation is necessary. This isnât a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and weâll discuss it, but it's not required.
* Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* Is it mostly men that attend?
Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we donât meet in any dark rooms.
* Can I come alone?
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* Can I be late?
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* Where do you meet?
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/).

The Test Tribe 12th Toronto Meetup â AI as a Force Multiplier for QE Leaders
Most AI discussions in testing revolve around generating test cases or accelerating automation.
But for Quality Engineering leaders, the real opportunity is much bigger.
AI is not just a tool for execution - itâs a force multiplier for decision-making. It can synthesize fragmented data, reveal hidden patterns, connect siloed systems, and elevate quality from reporting metrics to driving strategy.
At the 12th Toronto Meetup, we shift the conversation from tactical AI usage to strategic quality intelligence - and what that means for modern QE leadership.
**Event Details**
* Date: March 25th, 2026
* Time: 06:00 PM â 09:00 PM EST
* Venue: 688 Richmond St. W. (3rd floor)
Session: AI as a Force Multiplier for QE Leaders
Speaker: Puneet Randhawa, Director of Quality Engineering, StackAdapt
About the Session
While AI can generate tests and automation scripts, its greatest value for QE leaders lies in connecting the dots.
In this session, Puneet shares practical, real-world ways QE leaders can use AI to:
* Connect data from Jira, CI pipelines, Slack, monitoring tools, and more through MCP servers
* Build custom GPTs for defect trend analysis and regression intelligence
* Transform raw dashboards into actionable, forward-looking insights
This talk focuses on operating at a higher strategic altitude - shifting from tracking metrics to building systems that generate clarity, alignment, and informed decision-making.
If youâre leading QE in a fast-moving organization, this session will help you rethink how AI can amplify your impact.
**Key Takeaways**
* How QE leaders can use AI to connect siloed quality data into meaningful insights
* Practical examples of MCP servers and custom GPTs in QE workflows
* How to transition from reactive reporting to proactive, insight-driven leadership
* Ways to elevate quality from operational support to strategic advantage
**About the Speaker**
Puneet Randhawa is the Director of Quality Engineering at StackAdapt, with over 15 years of experience building and scaling QE teams in high-growth tech environments.
She is passionate about transforming quality from a support function into a strategic differentiator - leveraging data, automation, and now AI to enable smarter decisions and stronger outcomes.
Puneet actively mentors emerging QE leaders and shares practical insights from the field, focusing on how modern quality engineering can influence business strategy and organizational impact.
**Why You Should Attend**
* Gain a leadership-level perspective on AI in quality engineering
* Learn how to leverage AI beyond automation use cases
* Discover practical methods to turn metrics into intelligence
* Connect with Torontoâs QE and technology leaders
* Be part of The Test Tribeâs 12th Toronto Meetup
**About The Test Tribe**

https://www.cbc.ca/arts/for-more-than-a-decade-this-artist-has-photographed-north-americas-changing-chinatowns-9.6958912
Drawing from his engagement with the David Lai fonds at U of T Libraries and his new monograph, *Chinatowns: Tong Yan Gaai*, Lum examines the transformation of these vital communities.
The program includes an introduction by archivist June Chow.
https://www.morrislum.ca/projects
Over the past decade, **Morris Lum has embarked on an extensive exploration of the Chinatown communities across Canada and the United States. Focusing on the architecture and evolution of these enclaves,** Lum delves into how âChineseâ identity is shaped and expressed through their structures. Using a large-format camera, he has captured Chinatowns in cities such as Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston, chronicling the rapid transformations these communities face and documenting their shifting architectural and economic landscapes.
His colourful photographs offer a poignant visual record, spotlighting both historical and modern cultural landmarksâsmall family-owned businesses, iconic Chinese restaurants and vital community organizationsâthat define these neighbourhoods.

âArguing about important things doesnât usually lead to people changing their mind. Double Crux is a technique for making discussions more productive and understanding the actual reasoning of those who disagree with us. Sometimes it even helps to better understand the foundations of your own beliefs. Together, we'll learn about [Double Crux](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ya59PtGeYnCG25eWn/double-crux-in-a-box), and then break into pairs with someone we disagree with to practice finding out why our views are different and what might change our minds.
## Location
Enter the Mars Atrium via University Avenue entrance. We'll meet at the food court in the basement. I'll be wearing a bright neon yellow jacket.
## Detailed Directions to the Food Court
Enter from University Avenue and walk east until you see escalators. Take the escalators down. The food court is to the east of the escalators. If you are lost/confused, ask a security guard to direct you to the food court.

Music Production Session 001
## **Letâs Make Something Real**
Youâre invited to **Session 001**âthe kickoff of a new collaborative series designed for one thing: **Pure Creation.**
Weâre stripping away the gatekeeping and the endless tutorials. This isnât a masterclass; itâs a digital jam session where the goal is to walk out with a track that has everyoneâs DNA on it. Whether youâre a professional sound designer or you just bought your first MIDI controller yesterday, if you have ideas, we want them in the mix.
### **The Vibe**
* **Genre Agnostic:** From lo-fi beats and cinematic soundscapes to heavy techno or glitchâif it sounds good, it stays.
* **DAW Agnostic:** Logic, Ableton, FL Studio, Bitwig? It doesn't matter. Use the tools that help you speak.
* **Creation Over Teaching:** We believe the best way to learn is by doing. Youâll pick up tricks by osmosis, but our primary mission is the "Export" button.
*
### **How It Works**
Weâre keeping the workflow lean so we can stay in the flow state:
1. **Bring Your Setup:** Laptop + DAW + Headphones. Ensure youâre ready to make noise the moment you plug in.
2. **The Master Mix:** Weâll have a central project running.
3. **The Drop:** Weâll use a shared Dropbox folder to swap stems, loops, and one-shots in real-time. You create a part, drop it in, and watch the track evolve.
### **The Essentials**
* **Who:** Creatives, noisemakers, and rhythmic thinkers of all skill levels.
* **The Goal:** Ensure every person in the room makes a tangible contribution to the final piece.
* **The Energy:** High vibes, zero ego, and a shared love for digital alchemy.
**Ready to plug in?** Weâre keeping these sessions intimate to ensure the best workflow. Location and final logistics will be sent once your spot is confirmed.

[In-person] Curiosity CafĂŠ: Laughing Matters â Humour in Our Lives
We experience and produce humour through the memes we spread and the inside jokes we share with friends, and we even use it when facing lifeâs most difficult challenges. Humour can help us bond, cope, and rethink our assumptions. But what makes something funny? Why do humour and the laughter it produces play an important role in our culture?
One answer is that humour can help break down barriers and bring people together. As Victor Borge once said, âLaughter is the shortest distance between two people.â Humour can also be used as a social instrument to call out misconduct. How is it that humour fosters community and division at the same time? At our next Curiosity CafĂŠ, weâll revisit the silly and serious sides of humour, and explore the role that humour plays in how we connect, think and live.
Together, weâll discuss questions like:
* How does humour help break down barriers and bring people together?
* Does humour have a unique ability to help us find common ground and strengthen relationships?
* On the other hand, does how we respond to humour have implications for our social capital?
* How might jokes or humour be perceived by people from different backgrounds?
* Is it possible to create humour thatâs both provocative and inclusive?
* How might humour give us a sense of control?
* What is or should be the role of comedy in society?
Join us for a lively and collaborative conversation moderated by Erik Ai and Dylan Michels, where weâll explore questions, new and old, and (hopefully) share plenty of laughs along the way.

This event is brought to you by [Being and Becoming](https://beingnbecoming.org/), a Toronto based non-profit. We aim to create community around exploring everyday concepts and experiences so that we may live more intentional, thoughtful, and meaningful lives. We use philosophy as a tool with which we can come to a richer understanding of the world around us.
By offering activities, spaces, and other opportunities for conversation and co-exploration, we hope to enable the meeting and fusion of individuals and their ideas. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background: indeed, we believe the journey is best undertaken alongside explorers from a variety of disciplines, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

About the Curiosity CafĂŠ Series:
For those of you who havenât had the opportunity to join us at our Curiosity CafĂŠs and are wondering what theyâre all about: every two weeks, we invite members of our community to come out to the Madison Avenue Pub to engage in a collaborative exploration of our chosen topic. Through these events, we aim to build our community of people who like to think deeply about lifeâs big questions, and provide each other with some philosophical tools to dig deeper into whatever it is we are most curious about.
Sunday PUB-NIGHT/iNtuitive Banter @ The Pint
Join your community of fellow Intuitives and MBTI nerds for a casual evening of engaging conversation.
We get together every second Sunday â with a mix of regulars and new friends. There is no fee to attend, though we ask that you support the venue by ordering something to eat or drink.
**Feel free to contact event host B. via Facebook/Meetup messenger, or text/call 416-712-8635 for directions**.

We make an effort to find pubs that are quiet and introvert friendly, with a section to ourselves. We make no effort to muffle our extroverts, but should they get out of hand, our resident INTJ will use their death stare, to pull them back in line.

Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!

**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. Weâll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from serverâdriven controls, and why theyâre becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether youâre maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, youâll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standardsâbased way.

Long Form Night - Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! Tonight's a special one; this is "Long form" night!
Most nights here at Improv Meetup, we play "short form" games, where the host has established rules that the players must adhere to. These scenes frequently do not tell a connected story and are focused on following those rules; games such as "Alphabet Game" where every next sentence needs to start with the next letter of the alphabet, or "Interrogation" where it's a guessing game.
Tonight is focused on "long form", where we will see groups of people come up and do a sort of improvised play. There may be rules to the structure itself to adhere to, or it may be more free form, but doing this allows players to establish a shared world, and to establish characters and callbacks. While your average game may last 2-3 minutes, a long form set will last much longer, and have 4+ people involved. This may be a more complicated night, but we will make sure you feel supported to try this out.

The Graduate
This 1967 film is widely regarded as one of the best American movies ever made. Now remembered almost as much for its Simon and Garfunkel music as its deadpan comedy and being the role that established Dustin Hoffman as the hottest actor in Hollywood. It became a cultural icon for capturing the spirit of 60s angst of a young man on the make, while garnering a batch of Oscar nominations.
After watching the movie on your own, join us to relive (or experience!) those feelings at our discussion.
Columbus Chess Club
This is a time where players of all ages, and skill levels can gather and enjoy a nice Sunday full of Chess!
