¿Y si te dijese que en pleno corazón de la Garrotxa existe un valle espectacular que nunca deja de sorprender? En sus hayedos se está instalando ya la primavera, la estación que hace que el invierno mole. Bienvenid@s a la Vall d'en Bas, donde cada nube, hoja o roca tienen su lugar idóneo. Remontaremos la riera de Gorners, paraje de ribera dominado por robles, avellanos y helechos felices. Las pozas están flipando con el agua que les ha tocado este año. Una vez saciad@s del río, enfilaremos un empinadísimo sendero hasta lo alto de la montaña para encontrar las curiosas Escletxes: un laberinto de simas y corredores abiertos por los dinosaurios, marcados por paredes tapizadas de musgo, líquenes y helechos. En realidad estas capas de arenisca marina se han fracturado y abierto por el deslizamiento (diaclasa) sobre otras areniscas más blandas, no han sido los dinosaurios. Investigaremos este impresionante conjunto de grietas de diferentes direcciones y profundidades, comunicadas entre sí. ¡Y vamos a flipar! ¿Qué más? ¡Aaaaah, la Niagara Falls! Una bestialidad. Esta cascada, conocida popularmente como Salt de Sallent, lleva un caudal brillante es esta época. El Rol en Viu consisteix a afegir-li una acció més teatral i dramàtica a aquests enfrontaments. Si t'interessa aprendre a combatre, emular les lluites de les teves pel·lícules favorites, lluitar amb espasa, subjectar un escut, dominar els secrets de l'equilibri de peus o fer fitnes d'un mode diferent; el Softcombat i el Rol en Viu són una activitat que has de provar. **És durant el matí de 11h a 13.30h quan major quantitat de participants es reuneixen. Se acerca una buena nevada y aprovechamos para disfrutar de esa nieve virgen que tanto anhelamos, ¡Nos vamos al Port del Comte! Desde el Prat de Botons hay varias vertientes de rutas en raquetas de nieve, la nuestra transcurre por la vaguada principal hasta llegar a l’Estivella, donde encontramos un antiguo refugio libre y un remonte de la estación de esquí del Port del Comte. Pasamos por la Font del Duc hasta llegar al Pedró dels Quatre Batlles a 2.386,5m de altura, justo al norte del pic del Vulturó. Continuamos hacia el norte pasando por la Tossa Pelada a 2.378m de altura donde tendremos unas vistas realmente impresionantes de 360º, podremos ver el Pedrforca, la Serra del Cadí y la Serra del Verd. La circular se cierra en la Font de Estivella y descendemos por el mismo camino que ascendimos. Es una ruta en raquetas de nieve realmente espectacular, que en época de invierno se disfruta muchísimo andando sobre nieve virgen. **Blockhouse: A Moderate 8-Mile Hike Near Potomac, MD** Set within the stunning Blockhouse Point Conservation Park—consistently ranked among the best natural areas in the Montgomery County Park system—this hike offers a rich blend of biodiversity and quiet history. As you hike, you’ll trek through mature upland and floodplain forests, passing tranquil streams and unique river-rock outcrops. The area is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife and serves as a rare botanical haven, home to at least nine species of threatened or endangered plants. While the park’s rugged terrain once served as a strategic wartime transportation route for supplies, it remains a peaceful retreat today. The park’s name and historical significance are rooted in the American Civil War, specifically the year 1862. Following the Battle of Antietam, the Union Army constructed a series of blockhouses—sturdy timber fortifications—along the bluffs to defend the vital Potomac River crossings and the C&O Canal from Confederate raids. These outposts were manned by the 19th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, who kept a watchful eye on the supply lines into Washington, D.C. While the site was high-stakes and strategically vital, it is a rare historical gem because it never saw an actual skirmish; the soldiers spent their time on picket duty and reconnaissance rather than combat. Today, eagle-eyed hikers can still find the subtle earthen mounds and remnants of the foundations where these defensive structures once stood, serving as silent monuments to the soldiers who guarded the river. The hike begins in the deep woodlands before descending toward the C&O Canal Towpath. As you walk along the water’s edge, keep an eye out for sunbathing turtles and elegant Blue Herons while soaking in sweeping views of the Potomac River. The route also offers a glimpse into the region’s industrial past as you pass by the historic Violet’s and Pennyfield Locks. To cap off the journey, the trail climbs back into the shaded forest, culminating in a series of magnificent vistas. **Gold Mine and Great Falls Overlook. A Moderate 6.5 Mile Hike** THIS IS A SECOND HIKE THAT IS LISTED FOR GOLD MINE DUE TO THE HIGH DEMAND. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THIS HIKE STARTS AT GREAT FALLS PARK MD BECAUSE OF LIMITED PARKING AT ANGLER'S INN. NOTE: There is a $20 entrance fee per car unless you have a National Parks Pass. This hike features the remnants of a quirky gold mine and the classic overlook of Great Falls. The mine was established by a Union soldier who was stationed along the Maryland side of the Potomac River near Great Falls during the Civil War. He noticed a glint of gold and after the war, he returned to the area, bought some farmland, and started mining for gold. Eventually, 30 small mines were opened by various prospectors. One of the largest mines was the Maryland Mine. Today, little remains of these mines, but there is a loop trail that passes by one of them. The hike starts at the Great Falls Maryland Parking lot. The hike passes by the mine remains, and offers splendid views overlooking the Potomac river and visits the classic overlook of Great Falls. All who sign up will go on the waitlist. This is an 8.8 mile with 75 ft elevation out and back hike on the Potomac Heritage Trail in Loudoun County. On this hike we'll experience scenic Goose Creek as it flows into the expanse of the Potomac. There is also a lot of history as we hike along the ruins of the Goose Creek Canal ( see the background information below) and Selden Island which is privately owned and is known for it's prehistoric archaeological sites dating back to 1000BC. We will begin at Riverpoint Drive trailhead (Porta Potty is available) and follow Goose Creek and then the Potomac to our turnaround at Bles Park where there are restrooms. **Background History**: In 1849, construction began on a system of locks and dams to render the Goose Creek navigable up to three large mills in the Loudoun Valley. By 1845, the [Goose Creek and Little River Navigation Company](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Goose_Creek_and_Little_River_Navigation_Company&action=edit&redlink=1) canal system had been completed on Goose Creek to Ball's (Evergreen) Mill, 12 miles (19 km) upstream from the mouth. Though the lower portion of the canal saw significant usage, only one boat was ever known to have traveled the whole stretch, and by 1857 the canal was put out of business by the completion of the [Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_and_Old_Dominion_Railroad) to Leesburg. Most of the locks and dams were destroyed by the [Union Army](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Army) during the [Civil War](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War).
