'The tears of things' chapter 6 discussion book club
Officially register for location details here! https://luma.com/lc0ibzp5
Hey friends! đ
âWeâre diving into The Tears of Things by Richard Rohr, and youâre invited to join the conversation. Each month, we read one chapter and gather to explore what resonates â from compassion and anger to hope and how we make meaning in messy times.
âThis month, weâre talking about Chapter 6! Totally fine if you missed previous book club chapters, it's easy to join in the conversation.
âCome as you are â curious, questioning, or quietly taking it in. Let us know if you're in! (So we can get enough snacks! âșïž)
â
âBook overview:
âIn his first major work since The Universal Christ, one of our most prominent spiritual voices offers a wholehearted and hope-filled model for living today, grounded in the timeless words of the Hebrew prophets.
âHow do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel over an unfair world? In his most personal book yet, Richard Rohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets, showing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a path forward today.
âThe prophets' writings echo the spectrum of human development. Beneath their initial fervor and their powerful words, there lies a profound lamentation about our shared human condition and the pain of the world. Yet, in their astute critiques of culture and institutions, and their movement from anger and lament to wholeness and hope, the prophets embody what Rohr calls holy disorderâ a distinct approach to confronting malevolence and recognizing the wholeness of every living being.
âDrawing on a century of Biblical scholarship and written in the warm, pastoral voice that has endeared millions to Rohr, The Tears of Things breathes new life into ancient wisdom and paves a path of enlightenment for anyone seeking a wholehearted way of living in a hurting world.
âAbout the author, Richard Rohr:
âFranciscan friar and ecumenical teacher, Father Richard Rohr bears witness to the deep wisdom of Christian mysticism and traditions of action and contemplation. Founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation, Father Richard teaches how Godâs grace guides us to our birthright as beings made of Divine Love. He is the author of numerous books, including The Universal Christ, The Wisdom Pattern, Just This, and Falling Upward.

Loneliness can arise when people have few opportunities to experience genuine connection with others. This is where the group comes in, creating spaces in which a sense of belonging can be actively experienced. By working together on personal topics, a social space of resonance emerges that replaces isolation with relationship and contact. Through the structured sharing of experiences, loneliness becomes visible, discussable, and therefore open to change.
Through facilitated interaction, shifts in perspective, small experiments in experiencing contact, and shared reflection, participants develop new forms of connectedness and strategies for social effectiveness. The group functions not only as a source of support, but also as a learning environment for shaping relationships. In this way, resilient connections are formed that extend beyond the individual meeting and help to sustainably reduce loneliness.
**General Information**

Pablo Santacana LĂłpez invites participants to explore writing as a practice of queer world-making. This workshop approaches writing as a way to build what doesnât yet exist. When we write from queer experience, weâre constructing alternative realities, imagining different ways of being together, oriented toward the future.
**Words and stories reside within all of us, waiting to be discovered.**
Our monthly Open Writing Circle invites people with all levels of writing experience to explore their creativity and imagination.
In each session, one of Berlinâs many exceptional writers, poets, artists, or curators will create a vibrant and collective learning experience.
Whether youâre interested in fiction, memoir, non-fiction, or poetry, this supportive space encourages you to uncover the words within you. Weâll draw upon techniques used in writing workshops to unleash your innate talent in a collaborative environment that will allow for a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights.
This workshop aims to create an affirming, playful and empowering space for queer people to explore, express and celebrate their identities as well as to provide a platform for the stories of the LGBTQIA+ community to be shared, heard and valued.
**Biba Oskar Nass** (they/them), a trans boy and wordsmith, writes prose and poetry as a freelance artist. In their work, they address queer history and remembrance. Biba Oskar Nass is also a workshop host and co-publishes the queer literary magazine Transcodiert, among other texts.

Church on Sunday (Worship in English)
**Join Us for Sunday Worship at the American Church in Berlin!**
The American Church in Berlin (ACB) is an **ecumenical Protestant congregation** where people from *many* Christian traditions worship togetherâLutheran, Reformed/Presbyterian, Anglican/Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, non-denominational, Roman Catholic, and even a few Eastern Orthodox members. Wherever you come from, youâll find a place where you can feel at home.
Our worship is **traditional and liturgical**, rooted in the rich patterns of the Christian church and easy for both Protestants and Roman Catholics to enjoy. We celebrate **Holy Communion every Sunday and every festival day**, and all baptized Christians are welcome at the Lordâs Table.
ACB is an **extraordinarily diverse congregation**, with members from around the world. On any given Sunday youâll find long-time Berlin residents, young adults, teenagers who attend on their own, families with children, seniors, and many visitors and tourists passing through the city.
Our community is known for its **warm and friendly fellowship**âitâs one of the things people talk about most after visiting. Some folks dress formally and others show up in jeans and sneakers; we sit side by side without judgment. **Come exactly as you are.**
Most importantly: **our welcome is for everybodyâEVERYBODY.** If youâre looking for a church home, a place to pray, just looking to connect, or simply a peaceful hour of worship during your travels, youâre invited.
Weâd love to welcome you this Sunday!
