Last drum circle of the season! We've met at the Wheatsheaf Hall every month since October, journeying through the huge cosmic shift underway in the skies and in the human spirit - let's make May 30th a celebration of Spring in its full glory and cast our spells for the summer months ahead. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1934-42, and just like that period, his Taurean sojourn this time has seen the rise of authoritarian leaders and attacks on LGTBQ+ rights. Our Agbé beginners access 3 hour Sunday afternoon workshop covers the basic techniques and rhythms for Maracatu on the Agbé (Shekere). An Agbê is a large, dried gourd or calabash that has been cleaned, polished, and covered with a net of beads. It is played by shaking using both hands, and is accompanied by choreographed dance moves. No previous musical skills required. Instrument provided. Our community of percussionists (and dancers) is a friendly family of people from all over the world who have come together to meet new people and share a love for music, dance, and expression.
