Please join members of the Fairlington Social Club for a "Sunset Happy Hour @ Columbia Island Marina" on Friday May 22, 2026 from 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM to begin your 3-day Memorial Day holiday weekend. Columbia Island Marina is on an island in the Potomac River near the Pentagon. While it is part of the District of Columbia, it is located on the Virginia side of the river and can only be reached from the southbound lane of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. From Interstate 395 Northbound leaving Shirlington, take Exit 8B "Pentagon/Arlington Cemetery/Rosslyn" and bear left on Virginia State Route 27 East, drive past the Pentagon, cross the bridge over Virginia State Route 110, stay in the right lane to take the George Washington Memorial Parkway southbound exit "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport/Alexandria/Mount Vernon/I-395", then turn right at the sign into the Columbia Island Marina. Free parking is available at the Columbia Island Marina. Join your friends from the Fairlington Social Club for food and drink to a have a little change in attitude, change in latitude. Look for the six foot long Fairlington Social Club banner under the marina pavilion to find the group.

We will have open shop hours for anyone to bring their bikes to work on or need help fixing your own bike. We will also have bikes that need to be fixed so you can learn if you like. We will need everyone to sign in when arriving and sign out when leaving so we can keep track of volunteer hours and shop times. Suggested donation of $15 per hour for use of tools and space would be appreciated. Thank you!

We are hosting another event at the same venue in Downtown Silver Spring - Comma's Food Hall inside City Place Mall. This time, it will be more about the game - a traditional night of Spades play, lots of laughs, and Friday fun. ♠️ Spades games will be the main event, from 6pm to 10pm! Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center. At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience. Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following: group riding dynamics; safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting; hill climbing; audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers; what to bring on each ride; etc... Bring your questions, water & a snack. When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well. Helmets a MUST. If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride. PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group. Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop. Hello Everybody! Join us this Saturday at 11 AM at the Fairfax Wegmans as we continue our Bible study and discussions. Recently, we've been studying the "types" (patterns or pictures) of Jesus in the Old Testament in chronological order starting with creation. We will go all the way to David as a type of Jesus the King. As anyone who's attended before knows, we have open discussions. Our goal is always to grow in our love, knowledge, and relationship with Jesus and to have fellowship. We invite the presence of the Holy Spirit as we meet together and we've had some great conversations and revelations. Please join us as we continue our Bible study and prayers. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room).
