This is an opportunity for volunteers to support a professional mechanic as he guides customers working on their own bikes. If you know how to do some basic repairs, that's a plus, but even if you don't, you can greet customers and manage who gets helped next. Feel free to attend for only a portion of the time if you can't be there the whole three hours. Please note that this event is not usually an opportunity to learn about bicycle repair, since the mechanic tends to be very busy helping customers, especially during the warmer months. But it's a great way to contribute to Velocity, since almost all the funding for the volunteer program comes from the work done at the shops.

This is one of our regularly occurring drop-in sessions. We need a minimum of 4 players for this event to occur. Curious about Dungeons & Dragons but never played before? Learn how to play classic Dungeons & Dragons with other newbies and go on perilous adventures in a dark fairytale world called Dolmenwood. This will be a beginner-oriented introductory session involving exploration, strange monsters, clever problem-solving, and some intrigue. You do not need to know the rules ahead of time and you do not need to bring anything, as I have dice, pencils, and premade character sheets for all players. Just show up, jump in, and see if it is your thing! This will be a one-off adventure, with potential to continue on if everyone is interested. DMV adult Lego enthusiast club meeting

We've been to the Reston location - this is their store in Fairfax. It's a little smaller, so I've set an attendee limit. Same menu, same good food, and I recommend the housemade blackberry syrup for a latte, or their Rose Matcha Latte. Both are kinda unique. This weekend we're meeting on Sunday, a great way to rest and reset, especially after a busy Saturday. Join me. (No discussions on politics, religion or potentially controversial topics. Come volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles so that they can be used again by the community! This event is open to new volunteers and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary. Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502 Mt Vernon Ave. Enter through the gray door next to a roll-down garage door. If you drive to the location, be sure to park in the street, not in the alleys or parking lots surrounding the warehouse. And wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease! Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver. Volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times while volunteering with Vélocity.

If you’ve been wanting to get out but not do anything too overwhelming, this is for you. We’re meeting at PlantHouse in Alexandria for a relaxed, low-pressure hangout where you can create your own plant terrarium, sand just enjoy being around other people without it feeling forced. This isn’t a networking event, or anything super structured just a small group of people coming together to do something fun and a little different. Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
