Job search meetup
Job search meetup
Let's grab a coffee and job hunt together at the library ☕ 💻 Would love to make this a weekly meetup if a few people show up! We meet at the escalators at 9.30, dont forget to cancel if you aren't coming so that people on the waiting list can come. Many people have shown interest and I want to keep the group small so that we can easily find a spot to sit. But you are welcome to create an event of your own, it looks like a lot of people out there want to jobhunt together 😊
Spark Performance & The North Star of Data Catalogs
Spark Performance & The North Star of Data Catalogs
**Get ready for the next edition of the Copenhagen Data Engineering Meetup!** On the 18th of February, we are gathering at **Unity’s** Copenhagen headquarters for an evening dedicated to fine-tuning our engines and navigating the future of open data ecosystems. Whether you’re looking to squeeze every ounce of performance out of your Spark jobs or trying to make sense of the rapidly evolving catalog landscape, this is an event you won't want to miss. ### The Lineup We have two deep-dive sessions featuring experts from the front lines of data platform engineering: **Spark Tuning & Best Practices: From Theory to Production-Ready Performance** *Asaf Sneh (Unity)* Moving from a Spark job that "just works" to one that is production-hardened and cost-efficient is no small feat. Asaf will take us through the journey of Spark optimization, bridging the gap between theoretical best practices and the realities of running high-performance workloads at scale within Unity. **Graduating Class of 2026? The Current State of Apache Polaris (incubating)** *William Martin (Dremio)* As the industry moves toward open table formats, the question of "who manages the metadata" has never been more relevant. William will give us an insider look at Apache Polaris. With it being 2026, we’ll explore its progress through the Apache incubator, its role in the Iceberg ecosystem, and whether it’s ready to become the "valedictorian" of your data architecture. And, of course, a Data Engineering meetup wouldn't be complete without the chance to talk shop over a good meal. **Dinner and drinks** will be provided by our generous sponsors, **Unity** and **Dremio**. *** ### 📍 Location & Venue The event is hosted by **Unity** at their offices in Copenhagen. *Stay tuned for specific entry instructions closer to the date.* ### Agenda * **18:00:** People Arriving + Networking * **18:15:** Introduction * **18:20:** Spark Tuning & Best Practices (Asaf Sneh, Unity) * **19:00:** Dinner & Drinks * **19:30:** The Current State of Apache Polaris (William Martin, Dremio) * **20:10:** Networking & Wrap-up We look forward to seeing the community come together for another night of great technical discussions!

COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
Fun Friday: EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Fun Friday: EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Join us for something different as we get together to see EPIC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT! While researching his 2022 film, director Bas Luhrmann came across and compiled rare and previously unseen interviews and videos of Elvis in concert to create “one of the most exciting concert films you’ve ever seen!” Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: Part documentary, part concert film, the latest from director Bas Luhrmann is a follow-up to his 2022 film starring Austin Butler. While researching the film, he came across 68 boxes of previously unseen interviews, concert performances and outtakes from previous films. A combination of offstage and onstage Elvis, comes a film that “befits the magnitude of Elvis as a performer but also offers deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life." It is written/directed by Baz Luhrmann (ELVIS, MOULIN ROUGE, THE GREAT GATSBY) and stars the legendary Elvis Presley! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmqWusmzp0k BUZZ AND ACCLAIM: The film screened at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival where it was the runner up in the category People’s Choice Award for Documentaries. Next Best Picture says, “Certain to energize longtime fans and generate new ones for generations to come, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a masterwork of montage.” And according to the NY Post, whether you have a room in the house devoted to Elvis or not, this truly “Epic” concert film is an energizing experience!” PLAN: We’ll plan for a pre-show bite at nearby BRAVO around 5 or 5:30pm followed by a 7pm-ish showing on one of their larger screens. Once showtime is announced, advance ticket purchase is advised. Please list your seat number in the Comments below. Exact showtime and meeting details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
