This month, we have **Owain Jones** talking about building friendly content editing experiences and **Markus Johansson** talking about building packages for Umbraco. **Owain Jones - Unlocking the Full Potential of Umbraco: Building Friendly Content Editor Experiences** Umbraco is often called "The Friendly CMS", and it absolutely can be when we, as developers, make the most of what it offers. In this talk, I’ll show how we can utilise Umbraco’s built-in features and community packages to build intuitive, efficient, and friendly experiences for content editors. **Markus Johansson - Extending Umbraco like a Swede** In this talk, Markus will share his learnings from over 15 years of extending Umbraco. We’ll get a brief overview of the possibilities introduced with the new backoffice “Bellissima”. He’ll also give us tips and tricks that is useful both when extending Umbraco for a specific project or publishing a package for the Umbraco Marketplace. There will also be food, drinks and some friendly socialising. **Horror Everything: 2016 – Forever** Dr Joe Ondrak The history of horror is also the history of media, and key in understanding how we use media to play with the boundaries of what is real and what isn’t. In this talk, I explore and explain how horror fiction traditions are useful to understand contemporary conspiracy culture, moving from false documents and found footage to creepypasta and QAnon. Taking a formalist and stylistic approach, I demonstrate how social media platforms shape meaning, blur the boundaries of fact and fiction, and create a shared cognitive environment ripe for conspiracy belief. Dr. Joe Ondrak is a leading expert in digital horror, both real and fictional. He has published extensively on extreme right-wing terror, disinformation, and conspiracy theories, as well as creepypasta and networked digital horror genres. He currently works as a subject matter expert in hate groups at Resolver and consults on digital extremist behaviours and activities. His chapter for the Routledge Companion to Horror Studies – The (New) Medium is the Monster: Networked Digital Horror – is forthcoming. **NB: This talk has been rescheduled to a different date and will take place on the third Monday instead of the usual second Monday.**

Using a fusion of hardwood and softwood, this five-week course will teach you the fundamentals of woodwork and give you an opportunity to use classic hand tools; brass-backed tenon saws, sharp wood chisels and delicately honed vintage wood planes. This well-proportioned flip-lidded box is constructed of European redwood using a single dovetail joint at each corner and the fitted hardwood lid is attached to the base by a handmade ‘dowel’ peg hinge. The project will familiarise learners with many classic woodwork techniques and is taught with patience and enthusiasm by Andy Nicholl, who has devised this informative and challenging project. You will take home a treasure to treasure- and we hope it will enthuse you to learn how to make many handmade woodwork projects in the years to come. Life drawing classes tend to involve short poses which seldom allow time for painters to adjust their paintings sufficiently. In this class we will work with a life model who will take a single pose for the two hours each week, giving us more time to adjust and correct our paintings. Artists of all levels are welcome to attend, but this is a self directed class and no tuition will normally be given. Please bring your own water-based painting material such as acrylics, gouache or watercolours as the room is not equipped for oil-based paints. There is a sink in the kitchen adjoining the studio room where water can be obtained. The two hour session will start at 2.30pm and end at 4.30pm with a 15 minute tea break at 3.30pm. Newington Green Meeting House is an historic Unitarian Chapel situated on the North side of Newington Green. Access to the class will be by the side door; please ring the bell when you arrive. This Life drawing group will run throughout 2023. We will draw the life model. Starting with short poses, and working up to a longer pose. Materials -charcoal and A2 paper - will be provided, but if you want to work in a sketchbook or use different materials, please feel free to bring them. Made from seasoned pine, this classic project will teach you how to make an accurate wood frame, with a hinged, panelled door. The completed cabinet is 435mmH x 300mmW x 140mmD. You will have the opportunity of learning classic joints, such as a mortice and tenon and dovetails, insert a shelf and hang a door, as you build your skills week by week. You will use measuring and marking tools, and hand tools, including chisels, smoothing, plough and rebate planes. Over 12 weeks, we will cover many aspects of traditional joinery tuition. This content-rich class will suit everybody who wants to learn a lot in a short time. Len Conway, a very experienced craftsperson and tutor will explain each part of the process and instill lifelong good habits as well as tips for improving accuracy if you have some woodwork experience. About Len Len Conway has over forty years of experience in further education. He has taught carpentry, Joinery and multi-skills to a high level.
