Our meetings are informal, and we tend to discuss whatever anyone has brought with them to show as well. We also discuss local rockhounding ideas. Even though we usually plan to wrap up around 9 pm, most of us are usually still chatting at 10. It is amazing the amount of knowledge that we share with each other and the body of knowledge that we have as a group. All of our meetings have been great (even when only a few show up). The RSVP helps the meeting by showing others that we do have a group and that there will be a meeting that night. Hello Rockers! Let's get together and jam out some top hits since the new millennium (since 1/1/2000) at Crescendo Studios in Falls Church, VA. This will be a new venue for our jams and will probably be more accommodating to access for many of our DC Rockers members. The studio is located near the Mosaic District in Merrifield on the eastbound side of Lee Highway (US-29). We'll be in Studio A on the first floor of the studio which is mostly-equipped with a drum kit, keyboard, sound system, amps and mics. Attendees will be expected to bring their own instruments but should not need to bring amps or speakers. Keith + Tina Return!! for a four part Irish Session Class! Saturdays 1:30-2:30pm 4/18, 5/2, 5/16, + 5/30 limited to 15 participants! Across the globe, the beating heart and home of traditional Irish music is the session. Whether it takes place in a pub or around a kitchen table, the session is where musicians share tunes, learn from one another, and enjoy good company. This course offers a chance to play traditional Irish dance tunes — jigs, reels, polkas, and hornpipes — while discovering how a session works under the guidance of two veteran session leaders. Quincy Park is easy to find, only .3 miles from the chapel. There is plenty of street parking available on weekends on N. We'd like to listen a few times before the SOJO to get the hang of it. 3. Bring something to drink, as singing is likely to make you thirsty. 4. Short North Street Skates return Saturday, April 4 and we’re excited to get back rolling together. These weekly rollouts are a chance to move through the city as a group, build community, and create more visibility for skating and small-wheeled movement in Columbus. Details: Meet: 1160 N High St 9:30 AM meet 10:00 AM rollout All wheels welcome We’ll be skating through the Short North and surrounding areas at a steady, social pace. Routes will use a mix of streets and bike lanes, so comfort navigating the city is helpful, but you don’t need to be an expert. If you’ve been meaning to come out, this is a great place to start. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude.
