[FREE] Weekly English Class & Community Meetup
[FREE] Weekly English Class & Community Meetup
Join us for a friendly and relaxed English meetup in South Melbourne! This gathering is perfect for anyone who wants to practise English, meet new friends, and feel part of a welcoming community. Whether you’re an international student, new to Melbourne, or simply looking to connect with others, you’ll find a supportive space to learn and grow. Each week, we run **two simple sessions**: **Daily English**, where you learn useful everyday vocabulary, and **Learning English from the Bible**, where we explore short passages in clear, beginner-friendly English. You’ll also meet people from different cultures and enjoy meaningful conversations in a warm, inclusive environment. Come along, make new friends, and enjoy learning English in a place where everyone is welcome. We’d love to meet you!
Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'Butter' by Asako Yuzuki
Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'Butter' by Asako Yuzuki
We'll meet at the spot where Fed Square meets the Princes Bridge over the Yarra (near the pedestrian crossing closest to the river from Flinders St, on the Fed Square side). We'll walk for about 6km along the Yarra River, through the Botanic Gardens and back along the river to Federation Square for a coffee after the walk. This month, we're reading and talking about 'Butter' by Asako Yuzuki. The blurb: "**The cult Japanese bestseller about a female gourmet cook and serial killer and the journalist intent on cracking her case, inspired by a true story.** *There are two things that I can simply not tolerate: feminists and margarine.* Gourmet cook Manako Kajii sits in Tokyo Detention Center convicted of the serial murders of lonely businessmen, who she is said to have seduced with her delicious home cooking. The case has captured the nation’s imagination but Kajii refuses to speak with the press, entertaining no visitors. That is, until journalist Rika Machida writes a letter asking for her recipe for beef stew and Kajii can’t resist writing back. Rika, the only woman in her news office, works late each night, rarely cooking more than ramen. As the visits unfold between her and the steely Kajii, they are closer to a masterclass in food than journalistic research. Rika hopes this gastronomic exchange will help her soften Kajii but it seems that she might be the one changing. With each meal she eats, something is awakening in her body, might she and Kaji have more in common than she once thought? Inspired by the real case of the convicted con woman and serial killer, "The Konkatsu Killer," Asako Yuzuki’s *Butter* is a vivid, unsettling exploration of misogyny, obsession, romance and the transgressive pleasures of food in Japan." Goodreads rating: 3.48 How does a walking bookclub work? Like a normal bookclub, we talk about the book, what else we're reading, have read, or want to read (as well as a few tangents into life outside literature!) but we do it while walking around Melbourne and then over a coffee. We often split into smaller groups as we walk, but we also regroup through the walk. Should I read the book beforehand? The conversation will be more interesting if you do, but you can still come along if you haven't finished it yet! Do I need to bring anything? **Comfy** walking shoes, drinking water, some money for coffee or a bite to eat after if you wish. No need to bring the book unless you want to. No shows No shows (RSVPing yes and not attending) mean the group waits unnecessarily for those who are not coming, thinking you are running a little late. It’s absolutely fine to change your rsvp for any reason up until the walk begins, and you don’t need to leave a comment, send a message or give a reason, but if you don't click that 'change rsvp' button, you may be removed from the group. Membership Fee Did you know that while it is free to attend most events, Meetup charges organisers about $600 a year to organise a group? Members of the Walking Book Club are asked to pay a membership fee of $10 per year (not per event) to help cover this cost. When you join the group, you'll be automatically given a three month trial so you can see what the group is like, without needing to make any payment. If you would like to continue attending events after this, please follow Meetup's instructions to pay the $6.50US/approx $10AUD fee once per year (or contact group organisers if you would prefer to make payment using paypal, payID, cash or bank transfer).

We will install it, build a simple automation, and experiment with connecting services and local AI models. **About the Event** Let’s Hello World is a simple idea. We pick an open source tool and begin. Not a deep dive. Not a polished workshop. Just a focused session to install it, try it, and build something small together. During this session we will: \- Run n8n locally \- Explore the interface \- Build a basic workflow \- Connect to at least one real service No prior experience required. If you have been meaning to try n8n but have not made the time, this is your chance. Bring a laptop and curiosity. Healing the Past Reiki Practice Night
Healing the Past Reiki Practice Night
Namaste Healers. Do you have topics you don't want to talk about? What about people and past events you don't want to think about? Over time, many of us accumulate thousands of small hurts that we carry around in our energy body – hurts that dampen our mood, sap our energy, and emotionally weigh us down. And here is the thing: time doesn't heal them. All it does is bury them. So we might think we've gotten over them, but then we hear a pop song, cast our eyes over an old photo album, taste a wine we shared with an ex, and our heart tightens, and we feel the pain of unresolved emotions. At this Reiki practice night, through both group Reiki and meditation exercises, we'll study techniques for healing the past so we can enjoy a brighter present. So come along. Begin clearing out the emotional gunk in the system, and leave feeling lighter and happier. Hope to see you there! Jeremy ## Time to Expand Your Reiki with Pellowah Healing? Pellowah is the **yin to Reiki's yang.** High-vibrational healing energy. Incredible symbols. Potent chakra meditations. Expanded consciousness. You'll be surprised by how much it expands your healing abilities.
