Your holiday hacks!
Your holiday hacks!
Hello TEDheads! It's holiday season!!! How do you like to travel? What do you do to holiday well? Bring your ideas. Let's explore how to holiday and travel well. Bring your holiday hacks, watch the videos for some inspiration, and let's level-up our holiday game together. ***Please watch the following TED talks if you can :)*** *** # ★ **Talk #1:** [Traveling without money, how and why](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXjped_8aIY) ``` In this talk, delivered in English, Edouard Jacqmin shares his experience of traveling across Europe without money for 21 days and discusses how the journey changed his perspective on human relationships. Most of us dream of traveling, yet many believe we can’t because we lack the funds. At the age of 24, I traveled through Eastern Europe for 21 days without spending a single cent. One day, I emptied my wallet and decided to hit the road. Traveling across five different countries, I learned four lessons during this incredible adventure that we can all apply to our daily lives. ``` https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXjped_8aIY # ★ **Resource # 2:** [The Value of Travel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYXiegTXsEs&t=25s) \| Rick Steves After spending 4 months a year for the last 30 years living out of a suitcase, Rick Steves reflects on the value of thoughtful travel. Sharing lessons learned from Iran to El Salvador and from India to Denmark, Steves tells why spending all that time and money away from home has broadened his perspective, enriched his life, and made it clear to him, as he says in his talk, "Fear is for people who don't get out very much." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYXiegTXsEs&t=25s **Please note the following:** We want to provide a space for those who are curious about life, enjoy TED Talks, and want to share their findings with others. Please join us as we consider this topic, **Wednesday, July 1 at 7:15pm.** Newcomers are most welcome! Hoping to see you there. (Please sign up only if you really intend to attend). NOTE: We ask for a **4 Euro contribution** on the night to cover costs. Thank you.

Art, Culture & Conversation | National Gallery of Ireland
Looking for a different kind of evening in Dublin? This Thursday, NomadÉire is heading to the National Gallery of Ireland for an evening of art, culture, and conversation. We'll spend a couple of hours exploring one of Ireland's premier cultural institutions, taking in everything from classical masterpieces to contemporary works while getting to know fellow members of the community. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a casual museum-goer, or simply looking for an interesting way to spend an evening with great people, this event is for you. No art history knowledge required. Whether you are a digital nomad, remote professional, entrepreneur, creative, founder, traveler, student, or local, come join us. This is a relaxed opportunity to connect with curious and interesting people while experiencing one of Dublin's most iconic cultural destinations. What to expect: • Explore the galleries at your own pace while meeting fellow NomadÉire members. • Discover Irish and international artwork spanning centuries. • Enjoy thoughtful conversations inspired by art, culture, travel, and life in Dublin. • Meet new people in a relaxed and welcoming environment. • Optional pub visit afterward for anyone who wants to continue the evening. We'll meet outside the National Gallery of Ireland at **6:00 PM** and explore the gallery until approximately **8:00 PM**. Afterward, we'll see how the group is feeling and may head to a nearby pub for a drink and some additional conversation. Come alone or bring a friend. Either way, you'll be warmly welcomed and quickly introduced to the group. Sometimes the best conversations happen when you're wandering through a gallery with interesting people. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Meditation Essentials - Day Retreat
Meditation Essentials - Day Retreat
Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. It helps us change the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us. Buddhist meditation techniques offer a way of encouraging and developing positive states of mind, such as calmness, clarity, emotional positivity and a deeper seeing of the true nature of things. On this introductory day both the *Mindfulness of Breathing* and the *Development of Loving Kindness* meditations will be taught. It will be ideal as an introduction for those new to meditation, or as a refreshing day retreat for those who’d like a boost to their practice. **Cost** We do tiered pricing, depending on the circumstances. * €80 waged * €45 low-waged / unwaged / student **Booking** Book your place at [https://dublinbuddhistcentre.org/events/meditation-essentials-day-retreat-4/](https://dublinbuddhistcentre.org/events/meditation-essentials-day-retreat-4/)
French Speaking Practice – Real Conversation & Confidence Building
French Speaking Practice – Real Conversation & Confidence Building
Do you understand French but struggle to speak naturally when it’s time to respond? Join a relaxed **French conversation group** where we use **real news stories** as a way to practise **speaking French** in a natural and structured way. This is not a traditional lesson. It’s a guided conversation space where you **practise speaking** through real-life content. \#\# 📰 THIS SESSION’S TOPIC : A REAL NEWS STORY In this session, we will work with a short French news extract about **Fake police officers in Marseille**. \#\# 🎥 BEFORE THE SESSION Before the meetup, you will watch a short French news video about **Fake police officers in Marseille**. This video will give you the key vocabulary and context so you feel more comfortable speaking during the session. You will also receive a few simple comprehension questions to help you prepare your ideas. \#\# 💬 DURING THE MEETUP We will use the news story as a starting point for discussion and speaking practice. You will be guided through conversation questions to help you : * describe what happened in the story * to identify / describe someone involved in the story * situate events in time and space * to express a hypothesis. You don’t need perfect French — the goal is to speak and build confidence. \#\# 🗣️ ACTIVITY FORMAT The session will include : * group discussion based on the video * guided speaking questions * interactive conversation practice * a final speaking activity / role-play based on the scenario \#\# 🎯 WHAT YOU WILL IMPROVE By the end of the session, you will have practised how to : * speak more spontaneously in French * understand and react to real French content * build confidence when expressing ideas * move from “I understand” to “I can respond” \#\# 🌿 ATMOSPHERE This is a supportive, low-pressure environment. Mistakes are welcome and part of the learning process. The goal is communication, not perfection. \#\# 👥LEVEL Intermediate French learners (you should already understand basic French and be able to form simple sentences). \#\# ⭐ Free event – feedback appreciated This is a free session, and your feedback is very important for me as I build these conversation groups. At the end of the meetup, I’ll kindly ask participants to leave a short review about their experience — it really helps others decide whether to join future sessions. \#\# 📩 Feel free to join or message me if you have any questions
Sutton to Howth Walk via Shielmartin Hill
Sutton to Howth Walk via Shielmartin Hill
This Saturday (4th July), we'll be doing a walk from Sutton DART station. From the meeting point, we'll follow the coast in a south-easterly direction, climb Shielmartin Hill (at 163m is the 2nd highest peak on Howth Head) and then see the beautiful rhododendron gardens of Howth Castle, before finishing up in Howth. Although the start and finish points are the same as a walk we did in April, the route will be mostly different. The total length of the walk is around 8.9km and some parts are quite steep. It is recommended to wear long trousers or leggings as one of the paths has a lot or gorse next to it. Feel free to bring snacks as we could have a short break at some point. Or if people wish, we could go for Howth's famous fish and chips or to a pub at the end of the walk. Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places. **\*\*\* Important, please click on Attend if you wish to join this event. If you have a friend who wants to go make sure they go as your guest or ask them to join separately \*\*\*** \*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\* [Time] 12.04 \~ 16:30. The suggested train to catch leaves Dublin Connolly at 11:45 that gets into Sutton (one stop before Howth) at 12:04pm. It actually starts in Bray at 10:57 and stops at all stations en route so feel free to get on at the most convenient station for you. [Place] Outside Sutton Station [Host(s)] Tim (085 718 5658) Feel free to send a message via Whatsapp FAQs 1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details 2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks. 3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a medium walk with some steep sections, so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. 4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths. 5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to. PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks. Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather. New Location: Outdoors in Merrion Square park, near the picnic tables in the middle of the park. 2. Start time: 7:30PM This event has a different topic each time and includes a variety of interactive exercises. It's an engaging and creative way to express ourselves, and connect with how others think, feel and deal with life. A lot of times we don't talk about what we are really going through because we are worried of what people might think of us.
