Thursday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas
Thursday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas
It's **Thursday** & our main night of the week & the fun & games are just getting started here at DWL! We're located here in the Cinema (which can be found on the 3rd floor of the Mercury Mall Shopping Centre) on: * **Tuesdays & Thursdays**: From 17:30 to 22:00. * **Saturdays**: From 12:00 to 22:00 🦁 And we're still running every Monday 6pm to 11pm at the Golden Lion Pub too. 🌭☕ There are hot & cold food & drink options available from the cinema at low prices! Supporting Premiere Cinema by buying their food & drink IS supporting Dicing With Life! The cinema has been very generous to us by bringing us into their space & our way of showing our gratitude is by sending some business their way. And their menu is surprisingly cheap! Especially compared to any other cinema. Here's some cool examples of some great **offers**: Buy a large **Popcorn** (it's a huge bucket!) or a large **fizzy drink** & it'll initially cost you £4, BUT, take your bucket or cup back to the bar for a **refill** & the cinema will refill it back up to the top for just £2! 🍿🥤 That's half price Popcorn & Pop! This also applies to **Ice Blasts** too (£5 initially but to refill it's just £3). There's also Hot Dogs, Nachos, Pick n Mix & many other treats in store too! Check out their menu 😋 If you have any questions, please ask & let the fun commence! 🎲

Bewl Water & the Titans of Saturn (16 miles)
Bewl Water & the Titans of Saturn (16 miles)
It's Herschel's birthday (1792). Not William, who discovered Uranus & various moons around it and Saturn, or Caroline who found a few comets. John, continuing the family work completed mapping of the Southern Hemisphere sky, and named the discovered moons - in Saturn's case, after Titans in Greek mythology. First stop along this Wealden walk will be his home at The Moor, a quintessential English village complete with green where cricket was played in Herschel's day, church, and the Eight Bells. The church houses a very unusual relic, delivered in 1944. Next in our orbit is Bewl Water, the largest stretch of water in SE England, described as unlike anywhere else. [Bewl Water - The Ultimate Destination for a Family Day Out](https://www.bewlwater.co.uk/) Final stop is Ticehurst, with chocolate box cottages. Further details: [Best places to live: Ticehurst, Sussex | Muddy Stilettos | Muddy Stilettos](https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/best-places-to-live/sussex/best-places-to-live-ticehurst/) And when taking photographs along the walk - who coined the word 'photography' which he helped develop? Yep, John Herschel. Outward Travel: Take the train departing 9.24 AM from London Bridge to ETCHINGHAM. The return train fare with a Network Card or GroupSave is £17.00. Gather outside the ticket office at London Bridge to arrange group tickets. Walk start: 10.31 AM from Etchingham rail station. Bring a packed lunch. Village / pub stops. Orbital walk. *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ *What to bring* * Plenty of water, 1-2 litres recommended * Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized along the walk * Extra snacks and an extra packed lunch just in case * Rainproof (ideally waterproof) clothing, sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting muddy * Spare socks * Walking poles and/or an umbrella :-) * Yourself... * ...and your camera! * Cash for train ticket * Cash for pub at the end of the walk? Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.
Geographically situated at the heart of a region that has influenced history and culture for over 2000 years, Jordan has been influenced by Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders and Arabs. On this tour, we will experience the highlights of this beautiful country, including touring the spectacular and extensive Roman ruins of Jerash, visiting the lowest point on the earth’s surface, the Dead Sea for swimming and floating, exploring the fabled Rose Red City of Petra, luxury camping in the desert of Wadi Rum and a chance to enjoy the modern metropolis of the capital city Amman. **Itinerary** **Day One - Amman** Arrivals in Amman. Transfers from airport to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Most flights arrive late. Overnight in Amman **Day Two - Jerash, Salt and Amman** Breakfast at hotel Transfer to Jerash to visit some of the best preserved Greco-Roman ruins in the world. Jerash gives insight to what this region was like 2000 years ago and includes archways, theatres, public baths, a hippodrome, public fountains and an amphitheater. We continue to the hillside town of Salt on the old main highway leading from Amman to Jerusalem. Salt was an Ottoman Empire trading hub and this is reflected in its Ottoman architecture. Return to Amman for a city tour. Overnight in Amman. **Day Three - Northern Jordan, Pella (Gedara) and Wine Tasting** Breakfast at hotel Full day tour to northern Jordan including a visit to a vineyard to taste Jordanian wines. We then head to Pella which was an ancient city that contains ruins from the Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Canaanite, Hellenistic and Islamic periods. A massive Bronze and Iron Age temple recently discovered in Pella is one of the best preserved temples from Old Testament times anywhere in the Holy Land. Return to Amman. **Day Four - Dead Sea** Breakfast at hotel. We travel to Al-Maghtas on the east bank of the Jordan River which is reputed to be the location of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. We continue to the Dead Sea where we can enjoy swimming and floating in the dense salt water. This is the lowest point on earth and it overlooks the West Bank. Dinner (included) and overnight at the Dead Sea **Day Five - Madaba, Mt Nebo, Kerak and Petra** Breakfast at hotel. On the way to Petra, we will stop and visit Madaba with its Ottoman-style houses and Byzantine-era mosaics including a 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land which can be seen at St George’s Church. We will travel via the King’s Highway to the historic crusader castle of Kerak and Mt Nebo where Moses was reputedly shown the Holy Land. Overnight and dinner (included) at hotel in Petra. **Day Six - Petra and Wadi Rum** Breakfast at the hotel Early morning visit to the ancient, Red Rose City of Petra. One of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, Petra is a blend of Eastern traditional and Hellenistic architecture. It is one of the seven wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Petra is the highlight of any trip to Jordan. We approach via the narrow Siq canyon until we suddenly reach the amazing Treasury. This ancient city is half-built and half-carved into the rock and surrounded by gorges and mountain passages. We will have time to explore this site at leisure. Those who wish can return by horseback or even camel. Register now to secure your spot! Register now to secure your spot! To confirm your place, a £130 deposit is required: - £50 guiding & organising fee - £80 accommodation contribution (two nights) I’m currently exploring a selection of local Airbnb stays at the Brecon Beacons and will secure something comfortable, social, and a little bit special once all deposits are collected and group numbers are confirmed. Participants will arrange their own transport tickets, however if the group is fully booked by the RSVP deadline this Friday, I’m happy to coordinate and book group train tickets from London to help secure a better price. An open return from London is approximately £100, plus a small amount of cash for local bus/train travel. Not included: food, refreshments, insurance, personal hiking equipment, or additional personal expenses. Please note this is a professionally organised and guided group experience; however, all participants remain responsible for their own wellbeing, fitness, insurance, and personal arrangements during the trip. Please note that the organiser reserves the right to cancel the trip if minimum participant numbers are not met or due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, any deposits paid toward accommodation and guiding will be refunded. Once RSVP closes on Friday, you’ll receive the full itinerary, travel plan, and final details. **Small group. Big views. Great company. Let’s celebrate International Women’s Day in the mountains**.

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online Join Zoom Meeting [https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87836564953?pwd=4Mi57ElZkDIFlb1fnlNwOJ0NiOK4tP.1](https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87836564953?pwd=4Mi57ElZkDIFlb1fnlNwOJ0NiOK4tP.1) Meeting ID: 878 3656 4953 Passcode: 760812 One tap mobile +19292056099,,87836564953#,,,,\*760812# US (New York) +13017158592,,87836564953#,,,,\*760812# US (Washington DC) The formal presentation will start at noon

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
