Meditation (English)
Practice Buddhist meditation in the middle of Budapest!
The meditation is suitable for beginners. Each regular meditation is guided and begins with a short introduction. (all together is about 30-40 minutes)
Our regular Buddhist meditations have proven popular with people who want to integrate authentic Buddhist methods into their daily lives. For the modern lay person who is juggling work, relationships, and an active role in society, we teach a meditation that is easy to learn, and profound and powerful for experienced practitioners.
The meditation originates from the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It has a cumulative effect on mind, leading to greater clarity and calmness. Fearlessness, joy, and active compassion are the result of regular practice of Buddhist meditation.
* Do I need any special clothing?
No special clothing needed.
* Does the attendance cost anything?
No, the meditation is free.
Men's Circle Of Excellence Gathering XV
The Men’s Circle of Excellence Gathering, for men who seek truth, mastery, and a life beyond mediocrity.
The goal is simple: to support each other in mastering mind and spirit, breaking free from comfort, and moving toward excellence in every area of life.
Modern life offers endless distractions but little real connection. Too often, men walk the path of self-development alone, or struggle against the negative pull of today’s society. The Men’s Circle of Excellence was created to change that: to bring support, accountability, challenge, and community energy.
We gather in person to share openly, confront fears, and inspire one another to reach higher. Here, power is rooted in virtue, strength is balanced with empathy, and ambition is guided by wisdom.
How it works:
• Welcome & introductions: Meet new members and reconnect with familiar faces.
• Open sharing: Each man speaks about his current challenges, fears, or obstacles.
• Honest reflections: The group responds with insight and encouragement.
• Connection Time: After the circle, we'll have extra time to relax, talk, and build friendships.
Recommendation:
• Before the event, take some time to think about your current situation and what to bring into the circle.
Limited to max. 8 men per gathering to keep the space focused, personal, and meaningful. Confirm your attendance to reserve your spot.
Pranayama & Meditation 19:00/EN
In this session, we dive into Pranayama, (an ancient practice to discover the flow of energy within) and the power of conscious breathing, which is one of the most important aspects of the original yogic lifestyle. On these Tuesday evenings, we do more than just a breathwork session: this is an opportunity to explore a true harmony between our breath & the mind - body connection.
We begin with a 15-minute chest-opening yoga sequence to gently expand our lungs and prepare for deeper breathing (no need for gym clothes though, just an open mind). Then, we explore different breathing techniques designed for self-awareness, relaxation, and energy flow.
These classes are designed to help you discover how breath can be a tool to balance, energize, and center yourself.
To close, we immerse in a short yet profound "silent concert", a meditative sound journey where 174 Hz sound waves or white noise guide us into a state of deep harmony. Whether emotions are light or heavy, thoughts are clear or clouded, this is a space to simply be and find some peace.

Session #32 - Veganism: Environment, Health and Ethics
*“If a being suffers, there can be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration.”*
*―* Peter Singer - Animal Liberation
**Session in english! Also available on [consciouspass.com](https://consciouspass.com/activity/philosophy-session-veganism-environment-health-and-ethics-2026-07-02/) for Karma Points.**
According to Nature.com there is evidence of humans eating meat over 2,5 million years ago. But modern industrial societies have created a new ethical dilemma: is eating meat a viable human choice, or a moral issue?
In this session we will explore the philosophy of veganism and the question of whether animals deserve moral consideration comparable to humans.
We will examine different perspectives through anthropology, nutrition, environmental and moral arguments. Does meat consumption play a necessary role in health? Are plant-based diets morally clean? What is best for the environment and health? How much should biology influence ethics?
The discussion will also explore the moral arguments around animal suffering and responsibility, including ideas from thinkers such as Peter Singer and his critique of “speciesism” — the idea that belonging to a different species alone should not determine the value of a being’s interests.
The goal is not to reach an agreement, but to challenge our assumptions about food, morality, nature, and the relationship between humans and other animals.
**Introduction of guests (15 minutes)**
We start with a short introduction of the topic and of the guests
* Are you a vegan or vegetarian? for what reason?
**Questions (1 hour and 45 minutes)**
**Veganism and enviroment**
* Is it true that kettle producing is massively environmentally harmful?
1. Plant food going to kettle food
2. Land allocation
3. Water footprint
4. CO2 footprint
* The paradox between small scale and large scale. Large scale is cheaper, accessible and environmentally more efficient, but animals are generally in worst conditions.
* A tale about methane from wasted food.
**Veganism and health**
1. Some statistics: growth of veganism.
2. If eating meat improves health outcomes for some people or populations, does that create a moral justification to continue eating meat?
3. Should moral choices about food depend on scientific certainty?
(Example: nutrition science changes frequently — how much evidence is enough?)
4. Is choosing a vegan diet a personal health decision, or should it become an ethical obligation?
5. If lab-grown meat becomes identical to animal meat but without killing animals, would both vegans and meat eaters accept the change?
**Anthropology**
1. If humans are naturally omnivores, does that justify eating meat?
(“natural” vs “morally acceptable”)
2. Many traditional cultures hunted animals while also showing deep respect toward them. Is there a possibility to mimic this in our modern world?
3. Humans carry the full moral responsibility compared to other species, how sustainable is that?
4. Is having cats and dogs morally acceptable?
**The moral questions:**
1. Peter Singer argues that suffering matters regardless of species. If an animal can suffer, why should its suffering count less than human suffering?
2. Is “speciesism” comparable to other forms of discrimination, where we privilege our own group?
3. If we would never accept another intelligent species farming humans for food, why do we accept farming animals?
***
**RSVP:** Please confirm your attendance here on Meetup OR [consciouspass.com](https://consciouspass.com/activity/philosophy-session-veganism-environment-health-and-ethics-2026-07-02/) (get Karma Points for assisting!). In both cases, yield your space to another person in the waiting list.
We welcome donations from 1.000 HUF (min 400 HUF) to keep the costs of the meetup.
**If you order food (vegetarian and vegan available), or alcohol-free wines, you dont need to donate for the group. Thank you!**

Open Dharma Budapest - Free Meditation in a Teahouse
Open Dharma Budapest is a friendly meditation sangha for anyone interested in meditation. Every Sunday we gather for 1–1.5 hours at a local tea house to sit together, share, and support each other on the path.
What to expect: Each session begins with a 20-minute silent sit, followed by an open, voluntary sharing of our experiences — a space to process what arises in practice, together.

Your host: Sessions are hosted by Maria East, a long-term practitioner of Theravāda, Vajrayāna, and Dzogchen, with over 10 silent retreats over the last 5 years. Maria is also a clinical psychologist in training, who is happy to offer additional support if practice brings up anything challenging.
You're welcome to enjoy a cup of tea before the session ([Menu](https://okuma.space/menu/)). Please [book here ](https://okuma.resos.com)and come earlier if you wish so.

A Nighttime Walk Above Budapest
Welcome to Gradient Hiking ∇, where every trail brings fresh air, beautiful landscapes, and a sense of direction. Join us to stay active, enjoy nature, and share the experience with a friendly community. Come hike with us for movement, connection, and time well spent outdoors.
It's that time of the year again, when mere existence becomes an unending challenge of enduring inhumane temperatures, or simply known as summer. Luckily, there is a solution where we can still go hiking, and not be boiled alive: doing it at night. This of course comes at the cost of not being able to fully see the beauty of nature.
Our destination will be close to Budapest, so we can admire the artificial glow of the city, and also get to use convenient public transport to go home afterwards, which is not a given in most other places late at night.
📅 **Meeting Time and Place**
2026-07-04 20:30, Saturday, at [Normafa, Gyermekvasút bus stop](https://maps.app.goo.gl/F9Sv4GLKofaxaFC79).
🗺️ **The Walk**
[Full track here](https://turistautak.openstreetmap.hu/mentettutv-1782501236epcf). 7 km, 170 m descent, 280 m elevation, 2.5 hours. Easy difficulty. Most elevation is at the end, when temperatures decrease.
We'll start from Normafa at sunset, to avoid the major heatwave, and descend to Tündér-szikla, catching a view of Budapest in the last rays of sunlight. Then we'll head into the dark forest and walk without seeing much of anything, as is typical at night, until we reach Kaán Károly-kilátó, where a spectacular panorama filled with city lights awaits us. We'll take the bus from Szépjuhászné back. After the hike, around 11 PM, I invite you to grab a drink at a bar near Széll Kálmán tér.
🎒 **Bring**
\- Drinking water\.
\- Comfortable shoes and clothes for a walk in nature\. It could still be 30\+ degrees unfortunately\.
\- A light\. Don't use your phone's flash\, as that would drain the battery\. I have a few extra I can lend\.
A maximum of 20 people can attend. Let me know if you're joining. Please also let me know by Friday if you need to cancel.
See you in nature.

Scientists have been predicting climate change and drought for several years now: I don't know if they'll actually happen, but this summer has been unusually hot!
And in any case, coping with heat is a very useful skill. It's great when, instead of constantly hiding under air conditioners, you can calmly walk in hot weather without experiencing discomfort!
The goal of this hike is adaptation. That is, to begin acclimating your body to heat.
We'll do this gradually: we'll leave in the morning and walk 10 km, finishing before the temperature peaks. Along the way, we'll discuss overheating and cooling.
Cost.
Early booking (before Thursday evening): 12,000 ft.
Standard: 14,000
We depart at 8:00 AM by bus from Széll Kálmán tér and return around 1:00 PM.
Bring with you:
Water: 1-1.5 liters.
Comfortable, lightweight clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.
Cap/hat.
Fruit for snacks.
Money for tickets or a Pest Country travel card.
Also possible:

Sunscreen.
