Gaia Project - Limited to 8 players
We will be playing two games of **Gaia Project** with up to 8 players. All experience levels welcome. Expect the game teach to start promptly within the first 10 minutes.
In **Gaia Project** fourteen different factions live on seven different kinds of planets, each faction being bound to their own home planets. To develop and grow, they must terraform neighboring planets into their home environments in competition with the other groups. All factions can improve their skills in six different areas of development: Terraforming, Navigation, Artificial Intelligence, Gaiaforming, Economy, Research; leading to advanced technology and special bonuses. To do all of that, each group has special skills and abilities.

**Interpersonal Process Group**
**Psychodynamic shared exploration, learning and growth**
Interpersonal process groups focus on the interactions and dynamics between group members to facilitate personal growth and learning. These groups provide a courageous space for individuals to explore their interpersonal patterns, receive feedback, and develop more effective social skills.
**The core principle is that the group itself becomes a microcosm of a member's real-life relationships, allowing for insights and behavioral changes.**
Key aspects of interpersonal process groups:
* **Exploration of Interpersonal Dynamics:**
Members examine their communication styles, relationship patterns, and how they relate to others within the group.
* **Feedback and Self-Awareness:**
The group provides a platform for members to receive feedback on their behaviors and develop greater self-awareness.
* **Development of Social Skills:**
Members practice new ways of relating, communicating, and collaborating within the group, leading to improved social skills.
* **Microcosm of Relationships:**
The group mirrors real-life relationships, allowing members to observe and analyze their patterns in a safe and controlled setting.
* **Personal Growth and Well-being:**
Through these processes, individuals can experience significant personal growth and enhanced well-being.
Benefits of participating in an interpersonal process group:
* **Increased self-awareness:** Understanding one's own behavior and its impact on others.
* **Improved communication skills:** Learning to communicate more effectively and assertively.
* **Stronger relationships:** Developing more fulfilling and meaningful relationships.
* **Reduced anxiety and stress:** Finding support and coping mechanisms for social challenges.
* **Enhanced empathy and understanding:** Learning to see situations from others' perspectives.

February Grand Gaming Melee
Has your Significant Other ever leaned over and whispered in your ear, “feel like [wink, wink] *Terraforming Mars?*” Maybe you’ve followed a trail of rose petals to your bedroom to find your partner inviting you to enjoy some *Kodama*. Or perhaps a little experimentation in your youth landed you in a mixed-group session of *Cockroach Poker*. Whatever your experience level, if you love games, you belong at the St. Valentine’s Day Melee!
There’ll be board games, dice games, card games, tile games, and just about every other kind of game that can be played on a tabletop. You’re encouraged to bring some of your favorites (or ex-favorites as long as the breakup wasn’t too rancorous) and teach them to new players (who may love them more than you did), but feel free to come without any and play the games others bring. If you see one you’d like to try, there’ll be someone eager to teach you.
If food be the music of love, dig in! Please bring something delicious to share: popular delicious items include bags of chips, pretzels, crackers, and cookies. Some people bring a package of doughnuts or cupcakes; these are always popular and disappear quickly. Savory snacks like olives, vegetables with dip, or cheese appeal to players who don’t want to spend the entire day snacking on sweets. A few creative types may even bring something homemade; these contributions are even more appreciated. A refrigerator is available to store drinks and other items that should be kept chilled.
Official start time is 10:30am. You can come and go at any time, but your host appreciates anyone who arrives as early as 10:00am (the library’s opening time) to help with setup. Many hands make light work! Cleanup begins around 4:00pm (or whenever you decide that you can’t squeeze in one more game before the end of the event). Remember, whoever starts cleanup first gets the best choice of leftover snacks to take home!
As always, leave the room clean and tidy. **Please observe these rules regarding cleanup at Beatley library:**
* Please ensure that food scraps, crumbs, and bits of packaging are not strewn in the kitchen or auditorium. The library closes shortly after our event ends, so anything edible left on the floor or counters will attract vermin overnight. Night vermin are the worst!
* Please fold most of the tables and stack them under the coat rack – a few may remain where they were used – but **DO NOT FOLD THE CHAIRS**. Leave them out in any configuration that lets people walk around them easily. Many chairs are needed for programs the following day, so by folding them you only make more work for the organizers. On the other hand, more than a few tables left standing only impede the next day’s activities.

**WHAT LEVEL IS THIS HIKE:** This is a Moderate Level hike which is generally suitable for novice hikers seeking a bit of a challenge. The terrain will involve moderate inclines and may have some steeper sections. This trail is between 5-6 miles.
**CAN BEGINNERS ATTEND THIS HIKE:** Yes, we welcome beginners to attend this hike but please note, there will be some challenging sections throughout the hike but nothing to strenuous.
**WHAT IS THE PACE OF THE GROUP:** The group will start off at the same time and during the hike three distinct pace groups will form. We will have hike leaders mixed within the group and we will stop periodically for water and rest.
**WHAT TYPE OF HIKE IS THIS:** This is a loop trail hike and will start and end at the same location
**WHAT SHOULD I WEAR:** A good rule of thumb is to dress comfortably and in layers. Dressing in layers will allow you to stay warm when your cold and as you warm up, you can take off layers and not over heat. It's going to be cool to cold so we strongly suggest warm clothing, moisture wicking under garments, a hat, sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers (your choice), wool socks, a small day back, trekking poles (optional) and plenty of water.

Meaningful Conversation and Coffee - Alexandria
Higher Grounds – Del Ray is part of a growing network of gatherings where we create space for thoughtful, authentic dialogue about what matters most. Whether we’re exploring the nature of happiness, the challenges and possibilities of midlife, spirituality, culture, capitalism, parenting, or the role of art and travel in a meaningful life, every conversation is shaped by the people in the room.
There’s no set leader or rigid agenda—just a shared commitment to listen as much as we speak. We start with brief introductions focused on what makes you *you* (not your LinkedIn bio), then dive straight into whatever is on people’s minds. The direction of each meetup emerges organically, making every event unique.
MANDATORY: PLEASE REVIEW OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES IN THE GROUP DESCRIPTION. Everyone is expected to engage in respectful conversations and listen deeply as well as share. We have a zero tolerance policy of sexual harassment and hate speech.
Come ready to share, reflect, and connect with others in Del Ray who are also seeking deeper conversations.

With Love, We Rise: A Valentine’s Day Tribute to Federal Workers
Valentine’s Day is a time when we pause to reflect on love, not only romantic love, but the deeper love expressed through compassion, community, and care. For many in the DMV region and nationwide, February 14 also marks one year since the first federal Reduction in Force (RIF) action, a moment that deeply impacted thousands of current and former federal workers, contractors, and their families.
For decades, federal employees and contractors have served our nation with dedication, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. Recent RIFs and government downsizing have brought sudden change, uncertainty, and emotional strain, impacting not only careers, but identity, stability, and well-being. While the year has brought loss and uncertainty for many, it has also revealed extraordinary resilience, reinvention, and inner strength.
Join the Meditation Museum, a remarkable nonprofit dedicated to saving lives and strengthening communities rooted in resilience and perseverance, as we partner with RIF2RISE for a special Valentine’s Day gathering. Together, we will honor and uplift current and former federal workers and contractors through a compassionate, supportive community presence. This meaningful experience is not to be missed and will offer genuine support to all who attend.
As part of the program, **Dr. Kanu Kogod** will offer a gentle, honest conversation titled **“The Unwanted Transition: Finding Peace and Direction After Job Loss.”** Designed for those navigating the aftermath of job loss, she will address the full spectrum of emotions, from shock and betrayal to fear and grief, while offering grounding perspectives on unexpected life changes and the search for peace, purpose, and direction.
This gathering is **non-partisan** and focused entirely on **well-being, healing, and community care.** Come as you are and leave renewed.
