The Digital Delusion ā Is Technology Making Our Children Less Capable?
**For those who read the book and those who haven't yet ā both are welcome.**
*"Our children are less cognitively capable than we were at their age."*
That's the opening claim of [The Digital Delusion](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/244813958-the-digital-delusion) by neuroscientist and educator Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath backed by a synthesis of over 21,000 studies. What does it mean? For most of the 20th century, IQ scores rose with each generation ([the well-documented Flynn effect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flynn_effect)). Around the year 2000, that trend reversed across much of the Western world. In countries where traditional schooling remained largely intact, it didn't.
We were told that classroom technology, worth $ 400 billion, is the future of education, but Horvath argues it is not.
At the same time, [Salman Khan](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/196848520-brave-new-words?ref=nav_sb_ss_1_10) ā founder of Khan Academy ā believes AI could be the great equaliser in education: a personal tutor for every child, regardless of background. Both can't be entirely right. Which parts of each argument will prove to be true?
This June, Human Future Hub brings together humans interested in education, technology, parenting, policy-making and curious minds to explore one of the most consequential and least settled debates of our time: **what is digital technology actually adding to how we learn?**
We'll present the key ideas from both books, so you don't need to have read them to join the conversation, but it would be great if you do.
Come with your questions, your experience, and your honest opinion.

NVC & Boundaries
**NVC & BOUNDRIES**
***Weekend Workshop***
What a delicate human moment it is ā the one in which someone says or receives a āno.ā
āCan we make love?ā
ā No.
āWould you like to go for a coffee with me?ā
ā No.
āWould you like to work together?ā
ā No.
It takes such vulnerability to voice a request ā to courageously share your heart and its dreams. And it takes just as much courage to stay true to yourself, not to please the other at the cost of your own authenticity.
So often we end up saying *yes* when we actually mean *no* ā because weāre afraid of losing connection, or because āitās the right thing to do.ā
This weekend is an exploration of those delicate moments ā their depth, their vulnerability, and the dynamics they reveal.Weāll begin by discovering our own boundaries and what truly matters to us, since so much confusion and pain arise when we donāt even know where our boundaries are.
Weāll learn to say *no* in a way that is authentic, safe, and connecting. Weāll learn how to receive a *no* without betraying the vulnerability that comes with it. Weāll learn how to transform the moment of giving or receiving a *no* from a wall into the beginning of a meaningful dialogue ā one where *you can be you, and I can be me*, together.
āWords are windows, or theyāre walls.ā ā *Marshall Rosenberg*

Braschzeile 12-14, 14109 Berlin (Wannsee).
For this 2 days workshop, weāll be able to gather in the privacy and calmness of a house in Wannsee. A large garden with solemn old trees offers the grounding and space needed to gently move into the vulnerability to meet ourselves and each other at our boundaries and in the pain of where theyāve been crossed.
*Itās possible to sleep on site for a limited amount of people, priority itās given to who comes from out of town.*
**Experience**:
No previous experience itās required, everyone is welcome. The exercises will allow deepening the NVC practice even when you already have experience with it.
**Who is this for?**
Space is limited to a group of 14 people. As we want to create a safe container to also explore our hurting parts, we would prefer people to join for the full weekend flow. If you canāt join the whole thing contact us and weāll see if itās fitting for you to join only one day or a part of the workshop.
**Price?**
This event is neither charged, nor free.
Weāre intending to create/ to play with a conscious systems-based approach to money and how it flows in between humans. We want resources to flow towards serving & nourishing life. As we are co-creating learning, developmental and healing spaces we want to care for whatās needed for people to attend as well as for whatās needed so that we can continue to co-create such spaces.
Thatās why weāll offer two systems of distributing (monetary) resources in between the people present in an attempt to make this event financially sustainable for everyone.

**YOUR FACILITATORS**
**Martina Pesce**
Hi, I'm Martina. I came in contact with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) through a relationship where I started to grasp the beauty of this tool. After 3 years of self-study and occasional practice, I was touched by how this communication allowed me to connect with my mum in conflict, so strongly that I felt love for her for the first time in 20 years.
Unsatisfied with the lack of mental health support in the neuroscience research field, I decided to switch careers and dive deep into NVC. I trained as a mediator, counsellor and trainer at the Connecting2life school (Yoram Mosenzon). It was a two-year-long process of embodying the tool and then learning how to transmit it so that it could sink in the body. For a year I've been holding my workshops, courses and 1:1 practice.
My approach is based on practice and embodiment. I found NVC very revolutionary and with that respect, I like to let sink in our system a few bits of info at the time, rather than an overwhelming waterfall of theory.
**Matthias Flury**
Hi. My name is Matthias. To be honest with you, Iām incredibly hesitant to write this short biography about myself. Part of the resistance comes from a fear of not being enough - itās an insecurity that often comes alive since for many years of my life my need for connection wasnāt met, no matter what I tried. Out of this experience Iām shy to show and present myself, even to an unknown reader, to not go through the pain of rejection again. Another source for this hesitation is that Iāve got an idea of how I need to present myself here as a teacher. āI need to sell myself well and in a way that will make you trust me and curious to learn from meā. And Iām worried that Iāll try to perform as something Iām not in order to achieve that. Underneath the pressure of trying to be perfect Iām certain Iāll lose something incredibly important. Iāll lose connection to myself and with that any hope of actually contributing value to you.
Thatās why Iāll start this introduction of myself like this. Iām looking forward to meeting you and exploring together how we can connect to our feelings and unknown desires. How we can hold space and lovingly meet each other exactly where we are in our authentic selves. This is the place where relationships gain intimacy and depth, where love grows and where life begins to make sense.
Just in case you actually want to know about my background: I started learning about NVC in 2019, took my first lessons with Empathie Stadt Zurich in 2020, and completed my education in 2023 with a course about teaching and embodying NVC by CNVC-Trainer Yoram Mosenzon. I regularly support NVC-teachers as an assistant in their courses and occasionally teach myself. If you have any questions you can reach me at [matthias.flury@mail.ch](mailto:matthias.flury@mail.ch).

Crossroads: The mundane and The Romantic
Beethoven is remembered for his incredible contributions to Western classical music, a music so beautiful that I myself struggle to hold back tears, yet he struggled with landlords, custody over familial relations and women.
Ramanujan revolutionised mathematics forever, yet struggled with an incurable disease and downright racism during his time in Cambridge and other so-called "mundane" things of life.
Like them, many such great minds in history have their story presented to us with such romanticism that we tend to overlook the fact that they were still humans like us, with simple everyday issues, along with their great work and activities which defined their life and what they are now known for.
How shall one find balance between an intellectual activity, a heightened state of mind, thinking across time and the frustrating things like plumbing issues?
Hence, for this meetup, the topic is the crossroads between the mundane and the romantic.

Evening of Meditation - Access solutions more easily
*There are always more participants coming as regulars or from other platforms than shown here*
\-\-\-
We invite you to join our weekly Evenings of Meditation, to gently meet yourself, dissolve stress and live life from beautiful inner states, like calm, joy and connection.
These gatherings are not just about meditating on your own, but a step inward we take together. Each time weāll look into a particular topic in the light of timeless wisdom, reflect on it in a guided meditation, do powerful Oneness practices for greater wellbeing, and experience Deeksha - which helps to speed up your inner growth.
**This week's topic: Access solutions more easily**
Sometimes, when we face a problem or feel hurt, we tend to analyze it until we become exhausted. There is so much knowledge available that can help, yet for some reason, trying to apply it while in a state of stress often leads to greater disconnection or unsatisfying results. For example, you may say all the psychologically "right" words, yet the wall between you and the other person remains. Let's explore what can help us dissolve conflicts and move into a deeper connection.

Nervous System & Body Reflection - EN
An invitation to soften, slow down, and listen within.
Through grounding movements, mindful breathing and guided reflection, this class creates space to reconnect with your body and nervous system. We begin with an intentional asana practice to awaken the body and build awareness from the inside out. As the practice unfolds, mindful movement and conscious breathing will support you in tuning into your emotional and physical state with greater clarity and presence in the now.
The body holds stories, sensations, and emotions while the nervous system often guides how we experience them. This class offers a gentle space to regulate, reflect, release, and reconnect.
Guided reflections are woven throughout the practice to support deeper self-awareness and integration. Youāre welcome to journal, simply reflect internally, or engage in whatever way feels supportive to you.
Please bring a journal and pen if youād like.

FRAUEN WUT Workshop: From breakup to breakthrough!
Wir haben uns entschieden den Workshop, der kommenden Sonntag stattfindet, auf deutsch zu halten:
š„ From BREAKUP to BREAKTHROUGH: Von Trennung zu Durchbruch š„
Johanna & Thea

Drunken Philosophy: Are you really who you think you are? What is the "self"?
I have been studying the question of "self" online with Prof. Ellie Anderson and so I thought a prompt on the "self" might be interesting. Full confession: I had Claude create this prompt and I like it, so here goes:
Imagine a thought experiment that merges two classic puzzles:
> You undergo a procedure, performed neuron by neuron, in which every biological component of your brain is replaced with a functionally identical synthetic substitute. At each step, your behavior, memories, and personality remain unchanged. When the last neuron is swapped, is the consciousness experiencing the world still you? And ā more pressingly ā was there ever a continuous "you" to begin with?
### Questions to Wrestle With
* If consciousness is purely physical, does the *gradual* nature of the replacement matter, or is it equivalent to being destroyed and rebuilt?
* Could there be a "self" without continuity of experience ā even moment to moment, while you sleep?
On a more practical level, consider the simpler case first: **hemispherectomy** patients ā people who have had an entire cerebral hemisphere surgically removed ā often retain a strong sense of personal identity and continuity. This suggests "you" are not rigidly tied to specific physical material. But does that vindicate the synthetic neuron case, or merely show that identity is more *flexible* than we thought ā not that it can survive *complete* substrate replacement?
I used Claude so I could get this out today and let everyone have some time to consider it. Hope to see you at the Oracle. Sorry about the location change two weeks ago. That's what I get for trusting local weather predictions!
How to Take Control of YOUR Mental Health
Itās time to take control of your mental health. How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind.
Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself.
Here is the secret of being positive and free:
Thinking positively is not enough.
You also have to get rid of the negative thinking.
Your mind is like a garden.
You can plant many beautiful flowers in it, but if you don't get rid of the weeds when you plant your flowers, the weeds will soon take over the whole garden.
A positive thought is like a flower in your mental garden, and a negative thought is like a weed.
You cannot expect to have a positive mindset if you continue to have negative thoughts dwelling and growing there.
So, how do you get rid of the negative thoughts? That's what this Meetup is all about. Attend this local meeting and find out!
The Meetup event will be led by a consultant who had helped many people live happier in life.

You can!
The secret to success relies on your ability or inability to effectively communicate. Attend a free seminar and gain a better ability to communicate.

Want to Truly Heal from Emotional Trauma?
Why are we unhappy? Where does emotional pain come from? Studies show that people who suffer from long-term emotional pain have painful experiences in their lives that were never fully resolved in their mind. In other words, there were issues in the past that were not completely dealt with. This can include abuse in childhood, breakups, divorce, death of a loved one, to name a few.
How do you know whether you have gotten over something painful? Here is an easy test: Do you still have attention on what had happened to you? For instance, do you still find yourself thinking about something painful that you went through? If you are, then you are not over it. In fact, in severe cases, people find themselves playing a "tape" in their mind over and over again.
So how do you heal from your past? How do you stop the "tape" playing in your mind? In this meeting, you will learn a technique to help you with that.
Come join us! Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
