Keep reading....... Saturday September 17, 1949 in the early hours. A small harmless fire in a closet on C Deck erupted into an inferno that destroyed the Canada Steamship Lines, Noronic. It was Toronto's greatest disaster. On this tour we will meet and hear the stories of passengers, crew and firefighters who responded on that fateful night. Our goal is to try and figure out the true story of what happened on C Deck in that same closet. Was it an accident or was it done on purpose? If it was indeed arson, then why? The Noronic was built by the Northern Navigation Company, a subsidiary of the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company. It plied the waters of the Great Lakes since its first trip in 1913. It carried millions of happy holiday makers, but things were coming to an end. Could this be the motivation to end the service. Points to ponder! The car was King or Queen, and the second world war was over and attitudes were "a changing," quickly! The days of the passenger cruise ships on the Great Lakes were seen as part of the old world. Are you up for this interactive game once again? This walking tour/game takes participants back in time to 1949 Toronto, and explores the many sites associated with this disaster and the personalities involved. Hi all, sorry I've been MIA! Does anyone want to have a sit at Woodbine beach?! The event will take about 1.5-2 hours. We practice for 40 minutes and then go for a walk along the beach. Please bring a mat/blanket to sit on and warm clothes. Weather forecast looks like it'll be around 5-10 degrees. If anyone needs a ride to Woodbine, I can pick you up at Queen and Bay or Union station and Bay around 7AM. I have 4 seats available. I'd like us to sit at the far east side of Woodbine. We'll begin with a 20 minute breathwork session followed by a 15 minute meditation. For the breathwork, I'll play a youtube video by Breathe with Sandy on a speaker for everyone to follow along (https://youtu.be/xwoQJe1e9m0?si=HCfaZvz7n0xlW3XU) and provide additional instructions that aren't in the video. I find that breathwork is much better done on an empty stomach, so I'd recommend that if you do eat, eat at least 2-3 hours before arriving. After our group breathwork session, we'll have an open discussion on spirituality. What's been on my mind is how feeling and embodiment are foundational to spirituality, and that learning to notice and discern the language of our bodies is part of the path towards wholeness. Practices are a way to discern and attune to the language of our bodies.

For his part, Pope Leo has told journalists, “I am not afraid of the Trump administration,” and has found himself at the center of a heated debate over the proper role of any pope when it comes to commenting on global politics. As unsettling as such developments might be to Roman Catholics, they’re hardly unprecedented. Disagreements between popes and world leaders go back to the Middle Ages, and have played a significant role in shaping the Church and its role in the world. Explore the long history of popes’ conflicts with politicians with Vanessa Corcoran, a historian of the Roman Catholic Church who previously has given excellent talks on papal conclaves and the evolution of nativity scenes. She’ll discuss fascinating developments such as the fourteenth century Avignon Papacy, when Philip IV of France got the upper hand in a feud with the Church by pressuring a papal conclave to select a French pope and then getting the church’s leadership relocated from Rome to Avignon for nearly 70 years. In drawing parallels between recent events and medieval attacks on the Church’s authority she’ll describe how today’s anti-Church memes echo the anti-pope and anti-Catholic images that Martin Luther disseminated in large numbers with the help of woodcut printing. We’ll look at tensions between past presidents and past popes over not just wars, but issues such as abortion, stem-cell research, and abortion access.
