🎬Movie: Deep Water - Food & Drinks after the movie 🍿!
🎬 Let’s Go to the Movies (and Actually Talk… or Not)
Whether you're a film nerd, popcorn enthusiast, or just looking for a chill night out with interesting people — this one's for you.
We’re heading out to see a movie together, then grabbing food or drinks after. If the film's great (or terrible), we’ll probably talk about it forever. If it’s just okay, we’ll talk about it for 10 minutes and move on to everything else — books, dating apps, weird dreams, how Toronto keeps getting more expensive, etc.
The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and not too serious. No film degree needed. No icebreakers. No pressure to “perform.” Just come enjoy the film, connect with some thoughtful people, and see where the night goes Click here to watch trailer!

Free event/Jane's Walk - 🚶♂️ Downtown Toronto Walk + The PATH 🚶♀️

**No RSVPs for this one. It is part of [Janes Walks weekend](https://www.janeswalkfestivalto.com/). Just show up and enjoy!**
Join Nick for a **downtown walk that transitions into a long, fascinating journey through the PATH system**, keeping us mostly indoors while still exploring the city on foot.
📍 **Meeting Point**
**7 AM sharp @ Dr. Lillian McGregor Park, 25 Wellesley St. W.**
Look for **Nick and the Jane's Walk sign**
***
### 🗺️ The Route

### 👀 What We’ll See Along the Way
This isn’t just a walk — it’s a guided urban exploration:
* Older downtown parks with **recent upgrades and improvements**
* **Brand-new parks** — some finished, some still under construction
* A **refreshed and facelifted section of the PATH**
* The **relocated bus terminal**
* A surprisingly **sad indoor mall**
* And plenty of lesser-known downtown details you’ve probably walked past without noticing
***
### 🏙️ A Little PATH History
The **PATH** is the largest underground pedestrian network in the world, stretching **over 30 kilometres** beneath downtown Toronto.
What began in the early 1900s as simple underground connections between buildings slowly evolved into a climate-controlled city beneath the city — linking office towers, transit hubs, shopping areas, food courts, hotels, and attractions.
Love it or hate it, the PATH is a uniquely Toronto creation — confusing, practical, occasionally bizarre, and endlessly fascinating.
Nick has even led **curated private tours of the PATH**, featured in *NOW Toronto*:

Part of the Jane's Walk [weekend of free walks. ](https://www.janeswalkfestivalto.com/walks)This one is led by me.
End your week with some surf, sand, and fun.
A yearly Jane's Walk tradition for me now, I love to show off this magical place to both longtime visitors and people discovering them for the first time too. The Toronto Islands are one of my favourite spots in all of the city for a multitude of reasons.
Long to learn more about the rich history of the Toronto Islands? Participants will spot some amazing houses, creep by a haunted lighthouse, walk on a rainbow, see a giant hedge maze, and more.
This is a dog friendly walk . So leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome.
We will take the 6:45PM ferry to Hanlan's Point. All participants are responsible for their ferry fares. We will walk from Hanlan's Point to Ward's Island with some brief stops along the way.
We will return on the 9:45PM ferry from Ward's Island.
While paths are all lit, participants may want to bring headlights/flashlights for improved visibility.
Upon arrival, pay your ferry fare and then look for me in the waiting area. I'll be holding a Jane's Walk sign. I may even borrow a dog or two for this adventure.

🎨🚶FREE EVENT - Janes Walk: Graffiti Alley 🚶🎨
🎨🚶 **GRAFFITI ALLEY WALK – ART, RULES & THE STORIES ON THE WALLS** 🚶🎨
Street Art, Big Questions & A Different Way of Seeing the City
Some people walk past graffiti and don’t think twice.
Others stop and wonder… what am I actually looking at?
Join us for a 45-minute walk through Graffiti Alley — one of the most vibrant, controversial, and constantly evolving art spaces in the city.
This walk explores where graffiti and traditional art collide — and the bigger questions that come with it. Who gets to decide what counts as art? Who controls public space? And why does some work end up in galleries… while other work gets painted over overnight?
We’ll look at the artists, the culture, and the unspoken rules that shape what you see on the walls — from layering and tagging to respect, territory, and style.
This is not a formal lecture.
It’s a walking conversation — part storytelling, part observation, and part seeing the city in a completely different way.
👉 📲 **Join Our WhatsApp Group:**[ Click here to join](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DRFTkxRlHS4B3IL1lMleUd)
***
🧠 What We’ll Explore
As we walk, we’ll touch on questions like:
* Is graffiti vandalism… or art?
* Who decides what counts as “real” art?
* Where does art belong — galleries or the street?
* Who decides what gets shown in galleries?
* Who funds art — and how does that shape what we see?
* How does graffiti challenge cultural norms?
* Who defines history — and what gets left out?
There are no right answers here — just better questions.
***
🚶♂️ What We’ll Do
We’ll walk through key sections of Graffiti Alley between Portland and Spadina, stopping at different walls and installations to talk about what’s there — and what used to be there.
This is a space that’s always changing, so every walk is a little different.
We’ll take time to:
✔️ Look closely
✔️ Talk about what we’re seeing
✔️ Take photos
✔️ Ask questions
We’ll end near Queen & Spadina, with the option to grab food together afterward.
***
🌆 What Is a Jane’s Walk?
This walk is part of Jane's Walk — a global festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.
Jane’s Walks are about exploring neighbourhoods through stories, sharing perspectives, and connecting with others through conversation.

🌸🌳Cherry Blossoms In High Park with light walk! 🌸🌳
🌸🌳 **CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN HIGH PARK WALK** 🌳🌸
Spring Blooms, Early Morning Magic & A Park in Full Colour
This is one of those events where timing is everything.
For a short window each spring, High Park transforms into one of the most beautiful spots in the city — with cherry blossoms in full bloom and people coming from everywhere to see them.
And yes… it gets *busy*.
That’s why we’re going early.
The cherry trees in High Park were originally gifted in 1959 by the citizens of Tokyo, through Ambassador Toru-Hagiwara, as a symbol of friendship and appreciation. Many were planted along the hillside near Grenadier Pond, and over time, the display has grown into the iconic spring event we know today.
This is not a formal tour.
It’s a social walk — a chance to experience the blossoms, take photos, and enjoy the park together.
📲 **Join Our WhatsApp Group:**[ Click here to join](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DRFTkxRlHS4B3IL1lMleUd)
***
🚶♂️ **What We’ll Do**
We’ll meet at the entrance and head straight toward the three main cherry blossom areas, stopping briefly at each so everyone has time to take photos and enjoy the views.
After the blossoms, we’ll continue on a relaxed walk through the park, passing by the zoo and looping our way back to where we started.
This is a lighter walk overall, but there *are hills*, so be prepared for a bit of a workout.
***
🌦️ Weather & Expectations
This event will happen in typical spring conditions — sun, wind, or light rain.
As long as it’s not extreme weather, we’ll be going ahead.
🌸 **IMPORTANT:** Cherry blossom timing can change depending on the season. If needed, this event may be moved to another date to catch peak bloom. Please keep an eye on updates.
Dress in layers and wear good walking shoes.
Also — this is NOT a guided or historical tour. I’ll share context casually, but the focus is on enjoying the experience together.

Parking in the area will be extremely limited or unavailable.

🌸🌳 **CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN HIGH PARK WALK + LUNCH** 🌳🌸
**Spring Blooms, Busy Energy & A Tavern Finish**
If the early morning version felt a little too ambitious… this one’s for you.
Join us for a slightly later start to experience the cherry blossoms in High Park — one of Toronto’s most beautiful (and busiest) spring traditions.
For a short window each year, the park fills with soft pink blooms, drawing people from all over the city. It’s vibrant, a little chaotic, and completely worth it.
The cherry trees were originally gifted in 1959 by the citizens of Tokyo through Ambassador Toru-Hagiwara, symbolizing friendship and appreciation. Many were planted along the hillside near Grenadier Pond — and today, they’ve become one of Toronto’s most anticipated seasonal moments.

Choose Your Movie: THE SHEEP DETECTIVES vs HOKUM at Cinemark Stoneridge!
Join us as we get together to see your choice of two VERY different movies – one sweet and wholesome – the other a terrifying folklore horror! Option 1 is the fun whodunnit-action-comedy-mystery led by Hugh Jackman, THE SHEEP DETECTIVES! Option 2 is the top-reviewed supernatural-horror-thriller starring Adam Scott, HOKUM! Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
THE SHEEP DETECTIVES: Every night a shepherd reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The film is directed by Kyle Balda and take a look at this ensemble cast: Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau and Emma Thompson and the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O'Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein and Rhys Darby. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyZI5oM6hWk
HOKUM: In this film, a horror writer visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes, unaware the property is said to be haunted by a witch. It is written/directed by Damian McCarthy stars Adam Scott, Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh and Austin Amelio. Hokum premiered to rave reviews at this year’s SXSW Festival and is being release by Neon. It is earning a stellar 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which calls it, “A classic haunted house story enriched with atmospheric folklore and perfectly-timed shocks!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVCIK_MPyhc
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet inside the theater lobby about 20 minutes before showtime. If the showtimes work out, we’ll try to get both groups together for a bite before the shows! Complete details and showtime will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025.
The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed.
IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE STARTING AT 6:30, WHICH IS THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER THAN USUAL.
Unfortunately, it is only available on Netflix. If you would like to attend but do not have Netflix, say so and maybe we can figure something out.
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!

CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
