Melbourne Gay Men 40+ Support Group
Melbourne Gay Men 40+ Support Group
Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group! My name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured, supported, and acknowledged. As we transition into a different phase of life, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief, from my own experience, that some of these are directly, but not exclusively, tied to our sexuality and that can influence self-actualisation later in life in various ways. Some of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren't as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn't follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief. If any of this resonates with you, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. That, in of itself, can be extremely healing. The group is not a substitute for therapy, but a safe space to share and connect with others on a similar journey and to find and give inspiration. The group is specifically targeted to gay men who are aged 40+ due to the topics covered. Due to the limitations of the space and the need to keep it intimate, there is a maximum of 10 attendees. Venue: Sussex Neighbourhood House Inc. 7 Prospect St, Pascoe Vale VIC 3044 Date/Times: Once a month on Mondays 7:30pm - 9:00pm \*\* Door will be closed 5 mins after group starts so as not to disrupt the group. Booking a spot in group: If it is fully booked, please ALWAYS go on Wait List - the app automatically gives you a spot as soon as someone drops out. I will reminding RSVP'd attendees to change their RSVPs to *Not Going* if they are no longer going, so that those on the Wait List get their place. If you regularly don't show up and don't let me know - I will be in contact to see if there are any issues. Fees: $10.00 This purely to cover the cost of the venue where group is held as well as Meetup subscription. Guidelines: An opening creed will be read at the beginning of each group session. It is paramount though that ALL attendees feel safe, welcomed and respected at ALL times. The group acknowledges the traditional owners of the land and I'd also like to extend that acknowledgement to those with lived experience of mental health challenges. Thank you so much for reading this far - I look forward to meeting you in person. Remember, it only takes a baby step to start change. Please message me directly with any questions. Steven Cabral.

Winter Vision-Boarding: The Power of Rest
Winter Vision-Boarding: The Power of Rest
This workshop is centred around a simple but often overlooked idea: life moves in seasons and growth does not come from constant output alone. Many of us have been taught to stay in motion, to keep pushing, producing, and progressing. But rest, pause, and recalibration are not setbacks. They are essential for expansion, clarity, and becoming who you are meant to be. When we ignore that, we do not move faster. We move out of sync with ourselves. Instead of focusing only on what you want to achieve, this session invites you to explore what your next season actually looks like. The pace, energy, and priorities that feel aligned for you right now. Together, we will move through guided prompts and facilitated discussion to reflect on where you may be forcing, overextending, or holding onto things that no longer fit. From there, you will bring those insights into form through a hands-on, artistic vision boarding session that is intuitive, tactile, and creatively freeing. This is a gentle but grounding space for thoughtful conversation, creative expression, and shared insight with like-minded women who are also learning to move in rhythm with themselves. No artistic experience needed! Just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to reflect. We'll have the essentials for vision-boarding (scissors, magazine cutouts and paper), but encourage you to bring your own materials as well (think anything extra sparkly and fun). **What to expect** * Guided prompts to explore your current season, your natural rhythm, and what feels aligned for your next chapter * Facilitated group discussion (with space to listen or share) * Physical, creative vision-boarding * A calm, supportive environment to reset and realign **Agenda** *10:00am* — Mingling & settling in *10:30am* — Facilitated group discussion with reflective prompts *11:00am* — Vision boarding (creative session) *12:15pm* — Sharing, reflections & wrap-up Leave with clarity, a sense of alignment, and a visual reminder of the season you are stepping into. **About your facilitator** This event will be facilitated by Nadi Pax (@findingnadi). Nadi is a writer, facilitator, and creator focused on identity, self-trust, and emotional safety. Her work explores how identity is shaped through survival, people-pleasing, and self-abandonment and how it can be consciously rebuilt through awareness, embodiment, and choice. Drawing from lived experience, psychology-informed frameworks, and years of self-inquiry, Nadi creates spaces that feel both grounding and expansive, where women can return to themselves and move forward with clarity.

Bad Girls Book Club June 2026
Bad Girls Book Club June 2026
**Our June novel is: *The Eights* by Joanna Miller** **This month’s novel is set during World War I. It’s a 20th-century historical fiction story about friendship and war, with coming-of-age elements and a slightly haunted tone. The book is 384 pages in print and 10 hours and 9 minutes on audiobook.** Oxford, 1920. For the first time in its one-thousand-year history, Oxford University officially admits female students. Burning with dreams of equality, four young women move into neighboring rooms in Corridor 8. Beatrice, Dora, Marianne, and Otto—collectively known as The Eights—come from all walks of life, each driven by their own motives, each holding tight to their secrets, and are thrown into an unlikely, unshakable friendship. Dora was never meant to go to university, but, after losing both her brother and her fiancé on the battlefield, has arrived in their place. Politically-minded Beatrice, daughter of a famous suffragette, sees Oxford as a chance to make her own way - and some friends her own age. Otto was a nurse during the war but is excited to return to her socialite lifestyle in Oxford where she hopes to find distraction from the memories that haunt her. And finally Marianne, the quiet, clever daughter of a village pastor, who has a shocking secret she must hide from everyone, even her new friends, if she is to succeed. Among the historic spires, and in the long shadow of the Great War, the four women must navigate and support one another in a turbulent world in which misogyny is rife, influenza is still a threat, and the ghosts of the Great War don’t always remain dead.
