Big Talks Berlin - Knowing friends for deep connections
Making friends isn’t easy but it’s not completely random either - opening up is key. Instead of doing that in a cafe with noises, our small-group (limited to 10 people) meet-up wants to forge deep connections through talking about something personal, something more than meets the eyes in s safe space - without being disturbed or judged.
We believe in the power of being vulnerable. Without that, people don’t know who you really are and what your story is. Whether you just moved to Berlin or have lived here for years, this is an opportunity to meet people who care about similar things and are willing to talk about it.
How? We use tried-and-proved questions cards to lead the conversations and break into smaller groups for an even more comfortable setting to chat deep. That’s along with snacks and drinks.
We just started hosting for a while so this event is completely free. The only thing you bring is a good mood, an open mind and detailed feedback for us.
(We refrained from taking photos of our participants to protect their privacy so the event photo is a generic one)
Q&A:
What’s the language of the event?
It’s in English. One of the hosts is German so he can help with some translation but all conversations will be in English.
What are the food and drinks provided?
We offer chips, water and juices. You are welcome to bring your own.
When To Use AI, When Not To: Real Decisions Your Team Faces
**This event is taking place online.**
You know AI is shifting how work happens. But where does it fit in *your* team? Maybe you're using it somewhere and not sure it's working. Maybe you've held back because you're not confident. Maybe you can't agree on when to use it. Welcome to an honest decision-making conversation.
17:00 — Intro
17:05 — When do you use AI, when not? (In your teams, right now)
What's missing to decide well together?
17:15 — Simple frameworks for making these choices
17:30 — Examples and take-aways
17:45 — Questions and wrap-up
This is the second session in our series. We'll test some decision-making frameworks together and learn what actually helps your team choose clearly, because the best decisions come in good company.

Open Reflection Women's Circle
**Open Reflection Circle** is a small and intimate women’s gathering in Berlin, where we come together in a cozy café to share, reflect, and connect with one another.
In this circle, a small group of around **8–10 women** gathers to spend time in meaningful conversation and reflection. We begin by introducing ourselves and gently creating a space where everyone feels comfortable and welcomed.
Through guided reflection prompts, we explore our journeys, our emotions, and the experiences that shape our lives. These prompts are designed to help you open up and reflect more deeply on your thoughts, your dreams, and the challenges you may be navigating.
We also include a few light and playful exercises to break the ice and help everyone feel relaxed and connected. The intention is not to create pressure to share, but to create an environment where sharing feels natural and safe.
The heart behind the **Open Reflection Circle** is simple:
to bring together women who can hold space for each other and remind one another that we are not alone in our journeys.
This is a space where we can talk honestly about our lives — our visions, our goals, what we are building, and what sometimes holds us back from taking action.
We reflect together on questions such as:
Where do we want to go in life?
What are we dreaming of creating?
What challenges are we facing in our emotional wellbeing or personal growth?
By listening to one another’s stories and perspectives, we often discover insights that we might not have seen on our own.
You are encouraged to bring a **notebook and pen**, as many women like to take notes from reflections, ideas, and inspiration that arise during the conversation.
Toward the end of the gathering, we close with a small and meaningful practice: exchanging short **love letters of gratitude** with each other.
These simple messages help us acknowledge the presence of the women in the circle and leave the space with a feeling of appreciation, connection, and warmth.
The intention of this circle is not advice or fixing each other’s problems.
It is simply to **listen, reflect, learn from one another, and hold space for the beautiful complexity of each woman’s journey.**

Kreuzberg Contemporary Art Tour: The Politics of Memory
\* PLEASE NOTE: THIS TOUR WILL TAKE PLACE ON TWO OCCASIONS, EACH VERSION ENTIRELY DIFFERENT - BUT WITHIN A SIMILAR FRAME OF THINKING
Saturday, June 20th and Saturday, June 27th, both 13:00 - 15:00
PLEASE SCROLL BELOW TO SEE DESCRIPTION OF SECOND TOUR
"The Politics of Memory" is a three-stop tour exploring how acts of collecting, archiving, and exhibiting shape what is preserved and who has the power to decide. Beginning with the historical Wunderkammer, or cabinet of curiosities, the tour examines the origins of collection and display, questioning the hierarchy between collector and collected and challenging traditional systems of classification. It then turns to contemporary approaches to documentation and preservation, exploring how galleries continue to select, organize, and legitimize what is considered worth remembering while raising questions about responsibility once exhibitions end. Finally, the tour considers the archive as a contested and subjective space, reflecting on preservation as an act that can both protect and transform its subjects, and revealing how decisions about what is saved, displayed, or forgotten are ultimately decisions about which stories, truths, and histories are allowed to endure.
\*Itinerary is subject to change
On our standard tours, we guide you through several thought-provoking presentations in the form of both group and solo exhibitions; on special tours, we have the fortune of visiting an artist studio and gaining insight into the artistic process. Whether galleries, museums, or artist studios - the goal is always to open your mind, discover new ways of thinking, and make new friends!
Meeting location: In front of König Galerie at Alexandrinenstraße 118–121, 10969, Berlin
Time: 13:00 - 15:00
Please do not go inside the gallery prior to the starting time - it is important that we all begin the journey together.
Saturday, June 27th 13:00 - 15:00
\*Acts of Memory\* explores the relationship between personal and collective memory, asking how lived experience shapes identity and what happens when individual histories come into tension with broader cultural narratives. Moving from archives of everyday images and cultural objects to works that revisit inherited political histories, the tour examines memory as something that is not only preserved but constantly reinterpreted. It considers how familiar visual languages can evoke longing, discomfort, or contradiction, and how artists use them to navigate complex relationships with the past. The tour concludes by focusing on the body as a site of memory, exploring how desire, identity, and gender are shaped through cultural narratives, symbolism, and lived experience. Together, the works question who is remembered, what is forgotten, and how memory continues to shape our understanding of ourselves and our histories.
Meeting location: In front of Between Bridges, Adalbertstraße 43, 10179, Berlin

Drunken Philosophy: Where Is Everybody? The Fermi Paradox and the Great Filter
Welcome to Drunken Philosophy, a casual, curious, social discussion club. Come grab a drink and a seat at The Oracle.
**Optional topic for this meetup: Where is everybody?**
In 1950 the physicist Enrico Fermi was talking about aliens over lunch and asked a question that still has not gone away: if the universe is so vast and so old, and even a fraction of those billions of stars have planets, where is everyone? By the numbers the galaxy should be crowded with civilizations. Instead we look up and hear silence. That gap between "they should be everywhere" and "we see no one" is the Fermi Paradox.
One of the most unsettling answers is the idea of a **Great Filter**: somewhere on the road from dead chemistry to a galaxy-spanning civilization, there is at least one step that is almost impossible to get past. Maybe the filter is behind us. Maybe life starting at all, or simple cells becoming complex, or intelligence ever evolving, is the freak accident, and we already cleared the hard part. Or maybe the filter is ahead of us, and advanced civilizations reliably wipe themselves out before they spread.
Here is the part that messes with people. If we ever found life somewhere else, even pond scum on Mars, most people would call it the greatest discovery in history. But it might be the worst possible news. It would mean life is common, the early steps are easy, and the hard step is still in front of us. So the eerie silence overhead might actually be the best sign we could ask for.
**Questions to wrestle with:**
* Is it better to be alone? Would you rather we find alien life and learn we are not special, or find nothing and quietly improve our odds of surviving?
* Where do you bet the filter sits, behind us or ahead of us, and why?
* If it is ahead of us, what is it? Nuclear war, climate collapse, AI, something we cannot even picture yet? And can we do anything about a filter we cannot see coming?
* Two principles pull opposite ways here. The principle of mediocrity (the Copernican principle, Sagan's "no privileged place in the universe") says we are ordinary, so what happened on Earth probably happened everywhere, which makes the silence scream louder. The anthropic principle says of course we find ourselves somewhere life was possible, since we could not observe anything else, so our being here may say almost nothing about how common life is. Which lens do you trust, and does the silence still demand an answer once you account for observer selection?
* And if we did confirm life out there and had to accept we are not special, what would that do to belief in a higher power, and would shedding (or keeping) that belief help or hurt our odds of pulling together as one species?
* Does any of this change how you live, or how humanity should be spending its time and money right now?
As always the prompt is optional. Come for the conversation, stay for the drinks, and bring your own questions.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋
**IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...**
[The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up.
* This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
Casual Boardgames - make friends, then beat them in games
Welcome to Casual Boardgames, where we enjoy classic tabletop games and social deduction games while bonding over good food, drinks, and great conversations.
We started this group to meet new people and make new friends, and bonding over games in a relaxed atmosphere is a great way to do that.
We currently meet near route 23 and Polaris Parkway, and this is close to areas like Powell, Lewis Center, Worthington, and parts of Westerville and Columbus.
Feel free to bring your own games or play one of the many games our members bring. If you are inexperienced, we will help you learn.
Here are just a few examples of the kind of games we play.
Tabletop/board games: Splendor, Catan, Azul, Dominion, 7 Wonders…
Social deduction games: Code Names, Chameleon, Werewords…
IMPORTANT:
1. While we love playing a variety of games and competing, we are not just about the games. We interact and talk while playing, and this leads to a lot of laughter and fun. If you just want to compete and focus solely on the game, then this is probably not the group you are looking for.
2. Many people join groups like this and never (or rarely) show up after weeks or months. If you join and never really come, we will eventually remove you from the group as a courtesy to our members. Why? Because limiting group conversations (on the app) to regular members makes communication and planning much easier. Also, while it may be rare, it protects members from people who join because they are interested in following a person instead of having a real interest in our group. If you get removed, it is just because you haven’t come, and we follow this protocol as a courtesy to our regular game players.
Central Ohio Mens Group - Currently Accepting New Members
This is not an event, but an announcement that we are accepting new members. If you'd like to pursue joining our group, please read the "about us" section and then write us at columbusmensgroup@gmail.com with a few paragraphs about yourself, what you'd like to experience in the group, and the contribution that you'd like to make. Thank you!
