Chess at The Hugh restaurant hall
The Hugh is an indoor restaurant hall with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from.
The Chess group sits at the tables in front of the Pesce Lulu restaurant stand, where we get a 10% discount (mention the chess).
This event is run by my good friend Sam and is named "Knight's Brigade", which you can find on Instagram. Usually about 15 - 20 players are present - many more than those who RSVP here.
All skill levels are welcome, but not that this group skews to the intermediate - advanced range.
This is a completely free event.

All ages...ALL skills welcome. All club members/players get 25% of food purchases !!! Come play some chess, make friends, eat, and have a great time playing 'The Game Of Kings'. They also have an outside area, where members can play in, once the weather gets warmer.
Remember, the chess is free, the venue isn't. So please patronize the host. How can you not...at 25% off !!! The discount is applied to those sitting and playing a game. This will prevent people walking in, saying they're a member, and walking out after making a purchase. Bruno's is playing this by ear. Also, understand, Bruno's is the our ONLY venue offering our members this deal.
Let me see, the penne a la vodka with two meatballs is DELICIOUS. That's my go to. The sandwiches are huge. Also delicious. Nice variety of baked deserts. Hard to not stuff my face every time I go. I've gotten a lot of the members onto the pasta. They all acknowledge it's very very good.
We have sets, but if you can bring your own...its never bad to have extras.
We're currently over 500 adult members. It's close to 600 adult members if we include our members in the 'Boardgame Division'. No idea how many kids. Join the group on Facebook, under the same name. Answer the membership questions, and agree to the group rules, so you won't be surprised when you're declined...because you DIDN'T answer the membership questions and agree to the group rules.
Looking forward to meeting all the new members and players from that part of town.
Friday nights we're at Joe's Pizza. for a chess event.
We added 'OJ Macs', but they're on hold until spring now, as it's gotten too cold and we used to play in their spacious back area. Mom and Pop Shop Collectibles have been added to the schedule on Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm. That's a 'Combo all games Event'.
On nice days we have Sunday Outdoor Chess at Morris Park on 47th and Broadway. As of October 21 we won't be ending it, because its too cold. We'll pick up again next Spring.
We also have Combo Nights at 'The Vic'. Those are on Monday nights. They purchased their own sets for customers to use whenever they want. Combo nights is boardgames & chess being played. Bring whatever boardgame you want, and go at it. We usually have Scrabble, Uno, Skip Bo, Dominoes, Life ...just to name a few. So, don't miss out on a good time...and some good food and drink.

LEGEND OF THE YETI The Escape Game - February 2026 Meetup!
❄️🏔️ **Into the Storm… Dare to Uncover the Legend of the Yeti** 👣💎
Brace yourself for a chilling escape room adventure where mystery, myth, and survival collide.
🚨 **Next Adventure: Legend of the Yeti**
High in the Himalayas, an expedition searching for a legendary jewel has vanished without a trace. All that remains is a remote outpost, half-buried in snow and spoken of in hushed, fearful tones by the locals. They warn of treacherous storms, cursed mountains, and an ancient guardian said to protect the jewel at all costs.
As the next team brave enough to follow the trail, you must investigate what happened to the lost expedition, navigate the frozen outpost, and uncover the truth before the storm closes in. But tread carefully—up here, the air is thin, time is running out, and not everything that walks on two legs is human. 👀⏳
👥 Room Size: Up to 6 people (if you want to go but it's sold out, please join the waitlist. We are able to add more folks, but this is just how many I booked for)
💰 Ticket Price: $41 per person
MEET at 1:15pm. Room starts at 1:30pm! (Some folks might be playing Ruins right before)
The storm is rising. The legend is real. And the Yeti may be closer than you think. ❄️👣

Food, Fun and Games at Humdingers
Date: Sunday, March 1st
Time: 1:00 PM
Location: Humdingers — 64 E Midland Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652
Get ready for a fun-filled Sunday with the Rockland & Bergen Social Sandbox crew! We’re heading to Humdingers for an afternoon of food, games, and good vibes. Humdingers brings all the best — boutique bowling with interactive “Spark” lanes, automated batting cages (with Hit-Cams), a laser-maze, arcade games + VR, and a full menu featuring hot-rocks pizza, juicy Humburgers, custard & more — all cooked fresh in-house.
What to expect:
Bowling fun on their 12 Spark-equipped boutique lanes — you can even customize the graphics for extra laughs.
Swing for the fences in climate-controlled batting cages (bats & helmets provided — or bring your own if you like).
Arcade, VR games, and a laser-maze for folks who want variety besides bowling or batting.
Delicious eats — from hot-rocks pizza to Humburgers and soft-serve ice cream — and plenty of options to keep you fueled all afternoon.
A/V extravaganza: Humdingers has big screens and a great atmosphere, perfect for a group hang.
Who’s it for: Anyone from our Rockland & Bergen Social Sandbox group — whether you want to bowl, game, eat, hang out, or all of the above. It’s casual, social, and a great way to meet people and have fun.
Check out the Hundingers website at:
We will meet in the dinning section. I will be wearing a blue glow stick lanyard to make it easy to recognize me.
Everyone pays for their own food and entertainment. Humdingers has a system where you load money on a card and use the card to buy food and play games, so each person can decide how much they want to spend.
Note that a lot of the people coming out to our events are also coming from Instagram and Facebook.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday!
