Silver Tuesdays Nordic Walking in Brockwell Park
Over the last nine years, Silverfit has been able to offer exercise to everyone over 50 in Brockwell Park. Together with Silverfit, I have done my best to keep the exercise fun for everyone, no matter if you are fit or not so fit, strong or not so strong, sporty or not so sporty.
And, over all, I think we have done that pretty well! We have had some glorious years, and we made many, many friends over that time.
Silverfit managed to keep it going through the good times and the hard Covid years, but unfortunately, the reality of the current economic climate is hitting Silverfit hard. Many councils and charities that have supported Silverfit over the years have stopped funding, and without funding, Silverfit just simply cannot keep going.
Recently, they have had to take the hard decision to cut quite a number of their activities, and unfortunately, Nordic Walking in Brockwell park is one of the sessions that needs to be stopped.
Yesterday afternoon was our last session for Silverfit.
But…. I aim to keep your Tuesday walk going!
So many of you love our Tuesday session, and it would just be too sad to stop completely.
I would like to keep the Silver Tuesday session going under my own company, Fit and Happy Outdoors.
Sadly, I cannot do this for free, as I do need to make a living. But in order to keep this session available for everyone, I plan to keep our Tuesday afternoon session at a highly reduced rate compared to my normal rates.
New rates for our Silver Tuesday walks:
10 sessions for £45 (my normal rate is 10 sessions for £90).
For those of you who struggle financially, I am happy to reduce this rate to £30, or even offer it for free.
I can of course only do this if enough of you pay the normal rate, and I trust you will only ask for a reduction if you really need it. As I said, I do this for my living, but I don’t want money to be the reason you miss out on the benefits of Nordic Walking and spending time with our lovely group of friends.
If you are already a member of Fit and Happy Outdoors and you pay monthly, then the Tuesday session is included in your fee. No extra payment is necessary (unless you’d like to sponsor someone who cannot pay)
How does it work?
1) Please email me at Ailien at Fitandhappyoutdoors dot com, and let me know if you agree with me sending you an invoice for the full rate, or if you need a reduced rate.
2) I will then send you an invoice with my bank details on it.
3) Once I have received your payment in my bank account, I will hand you a 10-session card at the first session I see you
4) Every time you come walking on Tuesday, I will stamp your card
5) Once you have walked 10 times, I will send you a new invoice for the next 10.
Payment: I really, really, prefer bank transfers.
If you really do not do bank transfers, then you can pay me in cash. No cheques please (I really try to avoid having to go to the bank, it is just too much hassle).
If you or a friend only comes once in a very blue moon, then they can pay £5 in cash for the session (only banknotes please. Help a girl out, I do enough weightlifting already 😊)
Are you a walk leader? You are always welcome and do not have to pay me. I am grateful for your help!
Do we still need to sign up?
1) Have your own poles? No need to sign up. But, if there is a weather warning, please check in with me as I might have to cancel and if I don’t know you are planning to come, I might not be able to tell you it’s cancelled
2) Happy to use the Meetup app, then sign up for your walk here? If you sign in, I will know you are planning to come, and it will be easy for me to let you know if I do need to cancel a session.
3) Need to borrow poles from me? Please text me ON THE DAY OF THE WALK to ask me to bring a set. My number is 078 078 3456 4. Just use normal text, no Whatsapp please, as I will probably miss your message.
Any questions? Feel free to reply to this email, or text me on the number above.

Queen Mother Sports Centre (Everyone Active), 223 Vauxhall Bridge Road, SW1V 1EL
It’s a 5‑minute walk from Victoria Station. Full sports hall with 5 courts.

Everyone attending must RSVP in advance. Members can also confirm by email or text.
**Session Fee**
£14 per session
Includes premium feather shuttles.

Please pay at the start of the session.

All first‑timers must also register on our in‑house MatchMaking app before joining the courts. If you haven’t registered, you won’t be able to start playing.
Mobile reception in the hall is poor, so if you are set up to pay by bank transfer, you must pay in advance before attending. If we have to chase payment afterwards, the fee becomes £20.
Bank transfer is available from your second session onwards once it’s set up and we confirm your playing level fits the standard of the club.
Please only attend if you have RSVP’d on Meetup and are able to pay the session fee on arrival or have already transferred in advance.
If payment still isn’t settled, you will be removed from the group and blocked from attending future sessions.
The same applies to no‑shows who do not release their RSVP within the cancellation policy.
**Membership Options**
We are a membership‑based club and offer several membership options if a place is offered to you and your playing level fits the club. If membership isn’t for you, pay‑as‑you‑play is also available by RSVP on meetup. **Skill Level**
We keep a good standard at our Tuesday sessions, but don’t worry if you’re a bit rusty or haven’t played for a while. We’ll help you find your level. Our MatchMaking app grades you over your first three consecutive sessions, and we offer a three‑session trial for £36 so you can settle in and see where you fit. As a guide, Tuesday sessions are for intermediate to strong intermediate ladies, and strong intermediate to advanced men. If you’re unsure of your level, come along — we’ll assess it on court and point you in the right direction.
**What’s Included**
• Premium feather shuttles (Yonex, Yehlex, Victor)
• 5 courts
• Fair and organised rotation
• Players grouped by level
• Optional grade‑based competitive courts in the last 30 minutes when possible.

Join the **Trek Rockville store** for a spring group ride in Poolesville and explore the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve.
You must be able to ride an average of 10 mph for 20-30 miles on moderate terrain. We will make an effort to stick together and regroup, but there is no sweep. Ride leader average pace is around 11.5 mph.

18th annual Rockville Ride of Silence
Please join RBAC for our annual Ride of Silence starting in the plaza in front of the Rockville Public Library.
Please plan to gather by 6:40 for the dedication and briefing. We will promptly roll out at 7 pm.
This is a police-escorted ride in memorial of cyclists killed or injured while riding. You must have a helmet and be able to ride at a 10-mph pace. We will be riding a 9-mile route thru neighborhoods streets and on I-355/Rockville Pike. Front and rear lights are also strongly recommended.
The Ride of Silence takes place on public streets and in mixed traffic. This ride is only recommended for bicycle riders who can maintain at least a 10-mph pace and can comfortably ride on the street along side motor vehicles. Since there will be a police escort, we will not be able to wait for riders who have fallen behind. Riders not able to maintain the pace will likely have to complete the route separately on your own. This ride is not recommended for families or children who are not experienced riding on public streets.
Please pump up your tires, check your brakes, lube your chain, and take your bike for a test spin before you arrive.
More details about this global 24th anniversary event can be found at: [https://rideofsilence.org/main.php](https://rideofsilence.org/main.php)
READ THE FINE PRINT, PLEASE:
• Bicycling involves inherent risks and requires that participants be in proper physical condition. • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED for all riders on every ride.
• We strongly recommend you bring a water bottle, spare tube, cell phone, ID card, and cash or credit card for emergencies.
