Hello everyone! đ
My name is Sohyeon, and I currently live in France.
I've been teaching Korean since the Covid period, and like many of you, I love learning languages.
I currently speak and study:
đ«đ· French
đŹđ§ English
đ·đș Russian
đšđł Chinese
đŻđ” Japanese
While learning and teaching languages, I've often asked myself several questions:
đ€ What if someone wants to learn a new language but doesn't have much time?
đ€ How can children or people who struggle with reading learn a language effectively?
đ€ How can we create an environment where people can actually speak the language they are learning?
đ€ How can learners gain confidence while learning a language?
đ€ Is it possible to teach entirely in the target language while making sure students understand everything?
---
âš These questions inspired me to create my own learning program.
A program different from what you usually find in traditional textbooks.
The goal is simple:
đ°đ· Learn Korean by using Korean from day one.
đŹ Understand naturally through context, visuals, gestures, and interaction.
đ€ Build a community where everyone can learn and grow together.
---
# đ± Korean Starter Club
This meetup is an introductory program designed for complete beginners and for people who want to regain confidence when speaking Korean.
The goal is to discover a new way of learning Korean, practice together, and meet others who share the same interest in Korean language and culture.
đą Opportunities to continue learning after this program will be presented during the meetups.
---
# â Tea Time After Class
After class, we'll spend some time together over tea or coffee.
đ” Practice Korean
đŹ Chat freely
đ€ Get to know each other
đ Meet people with similar interests
---

You know absolutely no Korean
â
You've studied Korean before but need more speaking practice

â
You don't have enough time for traditional language courses and lots of homework
â
You need motivation to keep learning
â
You know some grammar but hesitate when it's time to speak
â
You'd like to gradually understand Korean dramas, variety shows, and videos
â
You're planning a trip to Korea
â
You'd like to communicate more naturally with a Korean friend, partner, or family member
â
You prefer learning through real language use rather than memorizing grammar rules
â
You've given up learning a language before because you were studying alone
â
You'd like to make new friends
â
You're looking for a new hobby or activity
â
You enjoy discovering different cultures and meeting people from around the world

Disconnect & Connect in Nature
Iâm putting together a small hike trip weekend in Hoorneboegse heide in Hilversum, the idea is to come with a few people who want to step out of their routine, spend time in nature, and meet others in a relaxed way.
This is not a tour or a structured retreat.
The idea is simple step out of your comfort and everyday life to reconnect with nature and with each other. We will
â explore the beautiful nature
â share a few moments together
â and keep things easy and natural
There will be time together (walks and sunset).
Group size will be small (around 2- 4 people), to keep it comfortable and personal.
This Meetup is to connect people who are interested in real and human connection
If this resonates, feel free to join and Iâll share more details đ

Queer Family Hang Out!
Calling all Queer Families!
Kinship Commons is hosting our first Queer family hang out!
*Pride Month seems like a great time to find your people.*
A casual space to meet other queer / trans families - who get it.
Let the kids play, build community alongside each other or just rest and snack.
Come for a little while or stay for the whole time.
Come as you are or bring a snack to share.
20 June @ 2pm
In an effort to keep us safe - Send a DM for location
Official Language: English
All ages and stages of family welcome!
Happy Pride!
***Caring Community Agreements:***
*Kinship Commons gatherings are BIPOC centered, queer-affirming, family-friendly, community spaces built around care, mutual respect, and shared responsibility for the space.*
*Many people who come to these spaces are navigating stress, burnout, grief, trauma, parenting, isolation, or major life transitions. We try to create spaces where people can arrive as they are, without needing to perform or explain themselves.*
**Consent:**
Please ask before hugging, touching, picking up children, taking photos, or sharing someone elseâs story. No is a complete sentence.
**Children:**
Children are welcome in this space and are at the center of our ecosystem. We understand that children make noise, move around, and have big feelings - these are all normal ways to be a growing human. Adults are responsible for their own children, and as a community, we approach all children with patience and care rather than discipline or correction unless safety is involved. At one of our events, if you see a caregiver on their own with children that needs support, please offer a helping hand.
**Photos and Social Media:**
Please ask before taking photos that include other people or their children. Not everyone is safe being online.
**Stepping Away:**
You are always welcome to step outside, sit quietly, leave early, arrive late, or take space. You do not need to explain.
**Food:**
We come from many cultures and backgrounds where food is often the centerpiece of connection in community space. If food is shared, please label common allergens. People are welcome to bring their own separate food if they have dietary needs.
**Access:**
We try to choose spaces that are close to public transport + parking, accessible for strollers, mobility aids, and different body needs when possible. If you have a specific access need, please reach out ahead of time so we can meet your needs.
**Conflict and Harm:**
Community spaces are not perfect and misunderstandings happen. We approach conflict slowly, with conversation, curiosity and care, rather than public calling out or shaming. Accountability and repair are part of community.
**Shared Responsibility:**
This space exists because people help make it exist. This might look like helping set up, cleaning up, bringing snacks, sharing skills, checking in on someone, or simply showing up regularly.
You are welcome here whether you are outgoing or quiet, whether you know many people or no one, whether you come once a year or every week. There are many ways to belong to a community.

Wakefulness Through Writing & Walking
This is a group for adults who want to ground in nature and connect to their creative selves in a warm and supportive environment. We'll meet weekly for 13 weeks (beginning June 26th) at a goat farm in Silver Spring, MD. We'll begin with a goat walk. That's right, we'll walk through the woods with goats and then focus on the chapters of Julia Cameron's book, *Walking in This World.*
Maybe you want to dive deeper after having completed a facilitated group based on Cameron's first book, *The Artist's Way* or you want to jump right into exploring your inner landscape through writing and grounding in nature. You don't have to be a self-proclaimed or professional writer or artist to join. Just bring your curiosity, a copy of the book, something to write with and a commitment to attend all sessions if possible.
Since the in-person portion of the group will be held at a private residence, I'll email registrants the address once they've signed up. Please dress in comfy clothes that might possibly be nibbled on by adorable goats, as the residence is also a goat farm. Wear closed toed shoes and feel free to bring water, a snack for yourself, bug spray and sunblock. In-person attendees will meet at 7 am.
In the event of more than light rain, we'll skip goat walks and meet in the indoor office. There is an indoor bathroom on-site.
For those joining on-line, plan to join at 7:30 am. You'll also need something to write with and a copy of the book.

Ident-a-Child
Prince William County Sheriff's Office will produce a plastic ID card with your child's photo and measurements. This is part of Bull Run Library's Summer Reading Kickoff.
This card could be the key to assisting law enforcement agencies if a child ever goes missing. Producing the card offers children a fun and positive experience interacting with law enforcement officers. The Sheriff's Office does not retain the information to protect the family's privacy.
