Wednesday Crystal City Run: 50 min
For the Wednesday run, let's meet at 1750 Crystal Dr (Entrance by Morton's Steakhouse) before walking over to the Crystal City Water Park and run on the Mt. Vernon Trail alongside the scenic Potomac River.
LOCATION: Meet at 1750 Crystal Dr (Entrance by Morton's Steakhouse). Link to location on map: http://i.imgur.com/3yN0lwN.jpg
NOTES: Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platforms.
Let's meet at 6:50 PM, leaving by 7:00 PM. We will do 50 minutes, so 25 minutes out and 25 minutes back. You're welcome to do more if you'd like. Just before the run we decide whether we'll go NORTH (DC) or SOUTH (Old Town) on the trail. Once we're done, we meet back up at the Crystal City Water Park area. After the run please feel free to hangout and socialize with the group or join us at National Landing Water Park for a beverage and/or food. https://g.co/kgs/AErMQZ
All paces are welcome! We run by time, not speed so bring a watch to monitor your time and turn around at the halfway time point. If you need to run/walk, that's ok! We average anywhere between 7-13 minute/per mile pace.
First Time? Start out slow to find someone around your pace. The different paces tend to automatically gather, so you won't be alone!
Metro: Crystal City on Blue/Yellow lines, 2 blocks from metro exit.
Parking: There is plenty of paid parking options (parking garages, street parking, or parking lots) in the area on Crystal Drive or Long Bridge Park.
Post-Run: A lot of times we have a little social outing after the run. You can bring a change of clothes if you'd like (though most people just go as is). We'll finish up the run, meet back at the Water Park, pick up our wallets and walk to wherever we decided to go for a beverage and/or food. If you have a suggestion for a place to check out, let us know!

Wednesday night chess at Patriots
**NOTE: most of the regulars no longer RSVP to the Meetup. You'll usually find at least a half dozen of us playing chess, regardless of how many attendees are listed. Come on by!**
Fairfax Chess Club meets on Wednesday at Patriot's Pub & Grill in downtown Fairfax City. People start showing up around 6 PM and stay as late as they please. Please bring your own chess set if you've got one, as our extra chess sets live at other venue for the time being. (If you don't have a chess set, however, I'm sure you'll still be able to get in a game with someone who's brought one.)
Patriot's is located at:
10560 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy nature! We meet Saturdays at 10am, by the bike racks and benches 150 feet in front of BUBBLES Hair Salon in Reston, leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week we'll walk the Green Trail to Lake Anne Plaza (\~1 mile), pause there for 5-10 minutes (water, bio, and from April-Nov a Farmer's Market), then circle the lake (2 miles) before returning to our starting point. It's roughly 3.5 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to a local restaurant to refuel and relax before tackling the rest of the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels, and both friends and dogs are always welcome! We recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water bottle, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll always walk, rain or shine.
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.

Within the Cairnlands of Absalom, a group of young minotaurs have vanished while on an important gathering quest. One of the members of Absalom's First Guards is quick to use his connections to the Society to call on them for assistance in finding these minotaurs and getting them home safely. Herndon Tennis Refugees: 8:30 AM @ Dominion HS
Join us for our weekly Herndon Tennis Refugees meetup! We’re a drama-free doubles crew for experienced, competitive players (USTA high 3.0–4.0). Come rally, connect, and have fun. No line-call drama or cutthroat battles. Fair play is the baseline.
When the old Meetup vanished like a botched overhead, we were stranded like tennis orphans. So we made something better: scrappier, smarter, and shockingly organized. We turned chaos into kick serves and awkward goodbyes into solid backhands. If you’re returning—welcome home. If you’re new—nice upgrade.
**The rundown:**
* We start with 2 courts (8 players).
* If full, **join the Waitlist**—at 12 RSVPs, we add a 3rd court; at 16, a 4th.
* Rotating doubles. Friendly, flexible, and fun.
* Events open Sundays at 8 am and fill fast.
* Frequent late cancellations (within 36 hrs) are discouraged. We may ask you to find a sub or limit your future participation.
The old group left us at the baseline. Now? We’re charging the net. 🎾

Mt Kilimanjaro Trek! One of the 7 Summits. Join us on this bucket list adventure
**Our Meetup is off to another hiking adventure! Mt Kilimanjaro, as the tallest mountain in Africa, is included in the 7 Summits of the world.**
**It is a bucket-list item for all hard-core hikers and mountain lovers.**
We did this trek with Meetup in the summer of 2024 and it was a true experience of a lifetime (see photos below)
Let's get to some numbers. It is 5,895m/19,340ft
BUT . . . our starting elevation for the trek is 3795m/12541ft
As such elevation gain is 2100m/6799ft
To compare Everest Base Camp trek, is about 2754m/9035ft elevation change. And Mt Whitney is about 1828m/6000ft elevation change.
The key to being able to succeed in this endeavor lays in the route and the support system.
We are taking the Lemosho Route via the Northern Circuit. The Northern Circuit route is the longest and newest of the seven established Kilimanjaro routes. It's one of the best routes because it has the best acclimatization profile. This results in one of the highest summit success rates. Add to that stunning views, and comparatively relaxed pace. It is also much less crowded than the other Kilimanjaro routes.
As far as our support system: We will be accompanied by experienced guides, porters and cooks. They are certified, ensuring our safety and comfort. Porters will carry our gear.
We will have a high ratio of guides to hikers. Our guides will go our pace and support each and everyone of us, regardless of fitness level and pace. In other words...you go your own speed and we all get there safe.
More about our trek/trip.
As with all our international trips, we picked the best season/time of year to go for weather and wildlife. Lemosho and Northern Circuit is a scenically spectacular and varied route. At the lower elevations it has an abundance of wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, eland and lion which come over to forage during dry season.
**Each of our trips is personally crafted to offer the best places and best use of time.**
*But I don't have the needed gear?!*
You don't need much more than the standard trekker's equipment. We will provide you with a list of what is already included and what can be rented there.
*Does this include food?*
All meals on the trek potion are included and a cook travels with us!
*What is lodging like?*
We are sleeping in new and comfortable tents (carried during the day by porters)
*I am new at this.*
That's OK. We do plenty of prep Zooms before we depart. And in California we have a number of local outdoor day or weekend outings you can test out with us.
*How dangerous is this? What if I get sick or hurt?*
We will be walking on an established, well used trail the entire time. **Our trip INCLUDES emergency insurance.** We are also Certified Wilderness First Responders and our guides are members of (AMREF) Flying Doctor.
**Plain and simple, safety is our primary goal.**
*How much does this cost?*
**Kilimanjaro Mountain Trek $3950 per person, double occupancy. Land only (airfare not included). Solo supplement $600**
Trip Cost includes:
\- 9 nights accommodation
\- 3 meals everyday on the trek
\- All Fees & Entrances and Taxes
\- Camping equipment such as tents\, tables\, chairs\.
\- Lead Guide\, Assistant Guides\, Porters and Cook

Beaverdam Reservoir Park & Lark Brewing Co.
We will be hiking the loop trail, (counter clockwise) around the BeaverDam Reservoir starting at the brand new Reservoir Park VisitorsCenter. Beautiful views of the water and varied woodland areas. This is an 7.5 MILE loop hike around one of Northern Virginia's largest bodies of water. The loop is mainly flat with a tiny hill or two. I've rated the loop moderate because the distance is 7.5 miles and we will be hiking about 22 minutes per mile - just under 3 miles per hour.
After the hike we'll head over to Lark Brewing.
24205 James Monroe Hwy,
Aldie, VA 20105
for food and beverages.
I will make every effort for your safety. You are hiking at your own risk. Dogs are welcome on the hike as long as they are good with groups, friendly and you follow all leash laws. I like kids but this is an adult event so please no kids or any one under 21.
We do start on time so please plan accordingly. Meet in front of the bathrooms by the parking lot.
