Keeping the Hive Alive & RTE exhaustion
Keeping the Hive Alive & RTE exhaustion
*\*\*\* Last-minute change due to a speaker falling ill. Niko has kindly stepped in. See updated description below. \*\*\** Two exciting topics, two very experienced speakers and much networking opportunity. We are very much looking forward to the next DevOps Meetup Zurich. Here's what's planned for the evening: 17:30 - 18:00 - Arrival and first drinks 18:00 - 18:45 - RTE exhaustion: Common traps, real-life experiences and what other roles can learn from them by Nikolaos Kaintantzis 18:45 - 19:30 - Keeping the Hive Alive: Metrics, Midnight Snacks, and 3 Years of Resilience by Adhi Sutandi 19:30 - 20:30 - Networking, Open Space & More drinks **RTE exhaustion: Common traps, real-life experiences and what other roles can learn from them** Preamble: While the focus is on the RTE role, the underlying patterns are transferable to other roles such as Scrum Masters, Product Managers or agile leaders – and can help organizations reflect on more sustainable ways of working. As an RTE, have you ever wondered why you are the first to start working in the morning and still have work left at the end of the day? RTEs often take on a wide range of responsibilities and are expected to create alignment, flow and continuous improvement across the ART. Working long hours can easily become the norm. Spoiler alert: it does not have to be that way. In this talk, the RTE role is used as a concrete example to explore common patterns that lead to exhaustion in agile environments. Based on six real-life situations, I show typical traps and how different people addressed them. **Nikolaos Kaintantzis** Nikolaos Kaintantzis works as a trainer, consultant and coach in agile projects. He is also a professional systemic coach and works with leaders. Through many years of experience in the conception and development of complex software solutions involving multiple teams, he gained early exposure to challenges in large-scale agile environments. In his recent work, he increasingly focuses on AI-native ways of working and their implications for roles, collaboration and leadership in agile environments. Nikolaos Kaintantzis is a SAFe Fellow. **Keeping the Hive Alive: Metrics, Midnight Snacks, and 3 Years of Resilience** In the modern era of SRE, reliability is no longer a bonus—it is often a core feature of the product. End-user experience is paramount, but at what cost? How do our promises of "four/five nines" impact the "heroes in the background"—the poor engineers waking up at 3:00 AM? Reflecting on my experience co-leading the on-call process and being one of the on-call engineers at Beekeeper for three years, I will share how we shifted from individual heroism to organizational resilience. We will explore how to build a culture where reliability doesn't come at the expense of mental health. In this session, we will cover: * The Human Factor: Why people and habits matter more than tools. * The Framework: Implementing basic Incident Management and meaningful SLOs. * The Culture: Transforming runbooks and post-mortems into tools for learning, not blame. **Adhi Sutandi** With 8 years of experience in DevOps, I describe myself as a true DevOps generalist and an advocate for GitOps and Infrastructure as Code. I love diving into all areas of the stack, from fleet provisioning and secrets management to Observability and K8s. I’m also a big believer in the power of Open Source. When I’m not on-call or optimizing CI/CD pipelines, I am an avid half-marathon runner, a badminton player, and a board game enthusiast. The role of AI in XR
The role of AI in XR
**About the talk** The vision of Augmented- and Virtual Reality has always been amazing: To make our interaction with technology as natural as our interaction with the real world. Yet, this promise of a truly human-centered interface has so far largely remained unfulfilled and reality fell short of this promise. This is changing. Recent advancements in AI are the critical catalyst we've been waiting for. When fused with modern Extended Reality (XR) systems, AI is finally starting to fulfil these decade old promises. In this session Robert will provide an overview of how AI is changing extended reality with recent examples. **About Robert** [Robert Adelmann's](https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-adelmann/) cross functional background spans 20 years of innovation in an increasingly merging real and virtual world: From foundational research at ETH and MIT, to start-ups and industry roles ranging from SW engineer and CTO, UX Designer, Head of UX and Augmented Reality, to his current role as Product Manager in Google's Extended Realities (XR / Android XR) organisation. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **💬 The Talk is in English** **📍 \*Note\* The event is happening in a new room \*note\* The event will be held at ETH Zürich Maschinenbau ML, Room F34** *We kindly ask you to arrive 10 minutes early of the event start, so everyone can find a seat due to high attendance.

Grief Circle — Remembering Love, From Darkness to Light
Grief Circle — Remembering Love, From Darkness to Light
**A sacred space to honor sorrow, release pain, and remember love** At Yanantin Tribe, we open grief circles where heart, body, and spirit can meet. Inspired by ancestral traditions, we gather in community to carry what was never meant to be held alone. Here, darkness and light are both welcome — grief is not fixed or rushed, but witnessed with care. A grief ritual is a communal gathering where sorrow is given space and form. We welcome all expressions of grief: personal loss, heartbreak, ancestral wounds, collective pain, or a quiet heaviness without a clear name. Through music, song, rhythm, movement, silence, and guided ritual, grief softens and reveals the love beneath it. **Bring: comfortable clothes, water bottle and your own cup for tea, curiosity** This is a free community offering. If you feel called to support the continuation of these grief circles, you can choose the **Support Ticket — CHF 25** via Eventfrog. Thank you for supporting this work. **The experience** * Enter a safe, held circle where all emotions are welcome * You may share, move, cry, sing, or remain silent — no pressure to speak * Place a personal item, photo, or symbol on a shared altar (optional) * Move through ritual practices that allow grief to be witnessed and released * Close with grounding and gentle integration so you leave supported **Why this circle matters** * Release unspoken or long-held grief * Be held without advice or fixing * Honor both sorrow and love * Heal personal, ancestral, and collective layers Tickets & Support This grief circle is offered freely as a community space. If you wish to support the continuation of these circles, you can choose the Support Ticket — CHF 25 via Eventfrog. 🎟️ Tickets & details: [https://eventfrog.ch/en/p/health-spirituality/health-wellbeing/grief-circle-remembering-love-from-darkness-to-light-7417590471009010657.html](https://eventfrog.ch/en/p/health-spirituality/health-wellbeing/grief-circle-remembering-love-from-darkness-to-light-7417590471009010657.html) **Practical info** * Held every two weeks on Sundays * Free to attend as a community offering * Donations welcome to support the continuation of these circles (entirely optional) * Bring: a token, photo, or personal item for the altar (optional) * Wear: comfortable clothing * Note: if you are in acute crisis or experiencing significant mental health challenges, please inform us so we can support you best * Impressions of past events: [https://yanantintribe.com/events-gallery/](https://yanantintribe.com/events-gallery/) **Additional support** András offers 1:1 grief support, death & dying accompaniment, and end-of-life presence alongside this community work: [https://psysoul.com/death-grief-sessions](https://psysoul.com/death-grief-sessions) This is not therapy. It is a facilitated ritual space rooted in consent, presence, and care. Come exactly as you are. You do not have to carry everything alone. **Personal Support & 1:1 Work with András** If you’re going through a period of transition, grief, burnout, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck, I offer **free 30-min Exploration Calls** to help you gain clarity and see if deeper 1:1 work is right for you. **Book here:** [https://calendly.com/andraskapros/psysoul-exploration-call](https://calendly.com/andraskapros/psysoul-exploration-call) Together, we remember love — and gently move from darkness to light. I'll walk through what it is an show a quick live demo. 19:20 \~ 19:40 *Mykhailo Kamai* **Building Is Easy with AI. How Do You Solve Distribution?** The new reality: Building digital products is largely solved. The real challenge today is reaching and convincing people. The core question If people (not AI) buy products, how do teams actually reach them today - and where does AI help or not help in that process? • Stage 1: Being online (website & presence) Why most businesses still need a website and a clear online presence. Where AI can speed things up, and where human direction is essential (vision, positioning, understanding the audience). • Stage 2: Platforms & distribution channels Overview of major platforms (social, content, newsletters). Where AI-assisted content can work, and where it currently harms trust or results. • Stage 3: Advertising (briefly) • Stage 4: Alternatives & non-digital channels When traditional or less obvious channels (media, partnerships, offline touchpoints) still make sense. **Conclusion AI as a multiplier, not a decision-maker.** What teams can realistically do in-house with limited resources, and where human thinking remains critical. # 19:40 \~ 20:00 *TBD* 20:00 onward More drinks & chat We look forward to see you there! Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data** Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics. The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth. The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical. (note: we are back at Rev1 this month!) **About Our Speaker** [Alex Moore](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexscottmoore/) is the founder of [Moore Cooperative](https://moorecooperative.com/), where he advises organizations on compensation strategy, pay equity, and people analytics. His work focuses on helping organizations like the Ohio Supreme Court design, analyze, and communicate compensation systems that are data-informed, defensible, and aligned with organizational goals. Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Agenda: **5:00 PM EST**: Online and in-person meeting begins with a social hour. This is an unstructured hour where you can join us to catch up and meet other group members before the session starts. There will be food brought in for in-person attendees. **6:00 PM EST**: Updates and announcements, followed by our feature presentation. See below for presentation details. **7:30 PM EST**: Optionally after the main presentations, the in-person crowd may go out for snacks and drinks at a local establishment. We hope to see you there! Session Abstract **No Map Required: Geospatial Analytics Directly in Your Data Warehouse** Think geospatial analysis requires specialized GIS software? Think again. This session introduces you to shapefiles and spatial operations right inside your database—no mapping application required. We'll demystify shapefiles (what they are, how they work, and where to get them) and show you how nearly every modern database —from DuckDB to Snowflake, supports spatial operations. You'll see practical demos covering spatial joins, distance calculations, and how to determine if two shapes interact with each other. Whether you're a data engineer optimizing delivery routes, an analyst aggregating metrics by geography, or a BI developer building location-aware dashboards, this session will show you how to unlock powerful spatial capabilities already built into your database stack—no specialized tools required. \*Please note, that we will be using Microsoft Teams for the online portion of this meeting. You may want to join a few minutes early to ensure you do not have any issues. If you are attending in person, there are large TVs at the office, and you do not need to bring a laptop or use Teams.
